picked up a free pack from challenge mode this morning... managed to pull my first Diamond rated card in v20

unfortunately, it's not an old-timer card/pre-ww2, so he won't fit the mold in Waffletown.

so if anyone is interested, I've put David Robertson - 2011 record breaker (96) out on the AH for a starting bid of 10K (average sale price past 7 days is 12722)

Spent 1,000 of my 1,001 coins on a pack...got live diamond Kris Bryant. Can't use him in our league, so onto the auction house he goes.

First diamond pull though, so my hopes are rising for the future, especially if it sells. Would be nice to fund an upgrade or two via this one.

EDIT: It sold, and in my packs was the usual eternal baseball disappointment. Usually I would say I knew better, but coming off a diamond pull, my hopes were rising. I claim complete and utter ignorance in this matter.

Stephensville has been gearing up for their final 13-game Our League push...by dropping 12 of 13 in other-league play

Despite their early Our League success, abysmal pitching has left the door open for the rest of the league. The Bears' staff has compiled a team 4.52 ERA to go along with a team .667 defensive efficiency.

Thank God for the Puppies!

The Stephensville Bears finally woke up to enjoy a 3-game sweep of the Palolo Puppies in the latest Our League series in B251. The sweep included two shutouts.

This was in stark contrast to the previous 20 games for the Bears, in which they went 2-18, culminating the stretch of bad baseball with a 4-game sweep at the hands of the Asheboro Road Dogs.

Stephensville now plays six games against non-OL teams before resuming Our League play against the Cooper Gutter Cats.

The Puppies need some serious retooling. There's always next year!

In S287, Battery Point has 7 left, Annandale 10. Of the 15 teams across the two leagues, only Terra Incognita has finished its run.
The Syrups took care of business in their final series with a 3 game sweep of Shasta to finish out with a 25-12 our league record. While the team will still maintain its focus on the Bronze league games remaining, as they are in the midst of a fight for the wild card spot; they will also scoreboard watch to see if Stephensville can maintain their lead.

(edit: looking back, my boys made a nice run after a 5-5 start to our league play)

Syrups' Season-ending Streak Snags Sweet Success; Stephensville Slumps

The Our League B251 campaign came down to the final game. Waffletown had done its job, and was waiting and watching, or so they thought. The Asylum Keepers stormed into the Bears' den and cast their nets wide enough to snare a sweep of the two games, propelling Waffletown to its first title across three Our League campaigns. Syrups fan club Belle Jen Waffell summed up the mood of the loyal rooters in a single exclamation, "Sweeet!!"

Ironically, the Our League season was extended by a day when the Keepers caught Waffletown in the PT standings, necessitating a play-off game at Sanitarium Hills Stadium. The Syrups dumped Asylum, 7-4, to earn a Wild Card spot. The extra game did not affect the final Our League standings rankings, although a Waffletown loss would have made their final margin .002.

If I am interpreting the PT scheme correctly, Waffletown will be promoted to Silver with a win in the Wild Card game. All other Our League teams will return in 2023.

Battery Point Brandishes Broom; Cowboys Clip Annandale

The Energizer Bunnies rode a 7-0 month, all against the Sanguine Classics, to win their first ever Our League title. The Atom Smashers, who led nearly all season, were denied a second straight flag. Green Lake, entering their last five S287 Our League games with a 2-12 against Annandale, took two from them on the road, and then finished the year with a home sweep by scores of, 8-4, 5-1, and 5-4, coming from behind, 4-1, to win in 10 in the finale. That triumph helped the Cowboys escape the cellar of Our League. The Atom Smashers doomed was already sealed by then. Green Lake fan club president Luke Outnextyear, said the fans were riding a little taller in the saddle, saying, "Our 'boys played with pride. We never quit, and went out in a stampede."

In PT, if I am reading the tea leaves correctly, Sanguine (just barely,by virtue of a 2-1 record against Salem), Green Lake, Ozark, and Terra Incognita will return for 2023. Salem (see above) will slide into bronze. Battery Point and Annandale are both in the PT final eight, but with only six going to silver, I think the Atom Smashers will need to win their series to make the top six. It seems Battery Point might be going up no matter what. I believe it will depend on the playoff success of teams that already trail them in regular season PT wins. If both teams win their series, they will be the first two Our League teams to meet in the PT playoffs. Those games(which will hopefully happen) will be added to their all-time records, since they will be against Our Leaguers.

I am re-posting the G-313 Our League Standings with the "Final" heading. In PT, with 10 teams being promoted, since Aina Haina and Ewa Beach made the playoffs, they will both be going to diamond. Port Ruppert finished at 61-101, and will (thankfully) finally be relegated. They were originally promoted on the "strength" of a losing record and have continued to struggle. Wheatland and Seattle will remain. Unless they are joined by at least two others, while their games against each will count toward their respective lifetime records, they will not be eligible for an Our League title in 2023. Since The Parakeets and Fighting Chickens are in opposing conferences, there is a possible Our Leaguer World Series match-up on the horizon. Hope the feathers fly.

Congrats to the Syrups. Unfortunately for my Bears, a classic case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Well the Classics avoided relegation by virtue of the W/L tie breaker with the Salem Witches, We beat them 2 games to 1 in one of our very few season series wins. It is too bad that one of our teams is going down.

Grats to the Bunnies! What a job of making over your team. I've been looking at your roster for ideas.

I feel like Annandale's offense has been sacrificed a bit too much at the altar of defense. So while we lead the league in zone rating and fewest errors, we also are 28th in runs scored and home runs. So I'm definitely going to start looking for a way to perk up the offense. My difficulty with upgrading is that I feel like the team doesn't generate PP very quickly, so upgrades will be slow in coming.

Stanley, I agree with your analysis - over the last 2 months we fell out of the promotion slot, so I think you are correct that in order for Annandale to get promoted to Silver we will need to go far in the playoffs (something we've had trouble doing!).

Good luck to Battery Point in games where you're not facing me!

Actually... it was the Syrups who had to catch the Keepers in the final games, as my boys stumbled down the final stretch a bit and dropped as far back as 2.5 games out of the wild card spot before righting the ship and making a final charge....

with 2 games remaining, the Syrups sat 1 game back of the Keepers for the final WC spot. Waffletown managed to win their final two games while Asylum split the final two, which put the teams into a tie breaker game for that last playoff spot.

here's hoping some of the new additions to the pitching staff we picked up down the stretch settle into their roles in time to make a good run in the playoffs
