I couldn't believe he was STILL on the board in the 3rd rounder, though I do enjoy the realism of it. There's a world we can actually find a way to use him, if he turns out decent, but if nothing else, he's decent trade bait and for a 3rd rounder, couldn't beat it.
Heh, glad you picked him up.

Both guys were fortunate enough to end up on teams that are headed to the postseason in their rookie year.

Not too shabby for a 19-year-old

He's only 20. I wouldn't go writing him off yet.

There's another Joe Peters in the league. And he's got his great-great-great-great grandfather's knock for hitting.

Let's not forget Greg Graff, our Little League to JUCO player who becomes draft eligible at 16.

Realization of the day: Joe Peters never won a title.

I had no idea.

On this episode of "do your best impression of the "A-Rod in his prime" trade"

I'll have to come back and revisit this one a few years from now. But basically, the logic here is, Virginia is having another bad season. Peters has been there for six years and he's locked into a long term deal below market value. Among the five Peters boys to play in the majors, only Joe Peters IV won a ring and he's the ONLY one of them outside of Peters V who isn't in the Hall of Fame. He wants to win and he wants to win now and Virginia is forever taking one step forward and two steps back.

I wanted to identify a market that made sense for him. While the Gothams are a legacy franchise in my league, I can't recall the last time they had anyone especially memorable. Well, that's changed today. They've ceded ground to the Great Plains and other non-entities of the world, but this move signals that the Gothams are finally back.

We'll see if yields anything, but Peters should remain there for the rest of his career.

Am I correct that the only team who has been in the same location with the same name for the entire 300+ years is the Victoria Cougars? That's pretty neat.

Contracted Dayton and Portland after 2134. We'll go with 38 teams for a year (there wasa schedule) and then we'll probably drop the other two (edmonton and one other team not sure which one...many of my targets have gone and gotten good.)

Of just clubs from the 1800s? Or original clubs? I don't think the Gothams have ever changed names. Nor the New York Knights. Eau Claire Paws, same. Victoria which is hilarious because it's such a random choice that lead to me adding them to the league.

I need to go look at the history and figure it out, I tried looking at the list of clubs and eyeballed it but I don't remember offhand (i know some modern clubs that never moved and kept their names...)

I did check and you are right. Victoria is the only original franchise to stay in the same location the entire 344+ seasons.

Here are the clubs that haven't ever moved that are early clubs.

Boston Yanks (1870)
Eau Claire (1812)
NY Gothams (1840)
NY Knights (1910)
Victoria (1800)

I went ahead and did the move to 36, rather than waiting a year. I didn't want one of my contracted teams to get good and force me to make other decisions. Edmonton and St. Louis were exorcised, so we're back to 3 divisions/6 teams in each per league. Someone made a really cool rotation of six schedules that will work well for that setup with variable game times and everything. Should work nicely. We used it before, too.

Mostly, this gives everybody a slightly better chance at the post-season and gets rid of the flukey four division thing where a bad team can sneak into the postseason that I hate.

Playoff format (3 division champs/2 wild cards) so we lose one playoff spot, but given that was often a marginal team - not always - it's not really a huge loss.

Hawaii is coming to the mainland finally. I like the novelty, but they have no rivals being so far out and I'm having a tough time selling myself on their long-term viability.

Hawaii 59ers move to Peoria, IL to become the Peoria Distillers after the 1891-1916 minor league real life team.

Mostly Ortuno is a few years older, hits for more contact and can play like 6 positions. He'll start at 3B, but his versatility put him over the top. No guarantees it'll work, but...our window with this core is about to end, so I'm grasping for straws where I can in the hopes this is the year we get over the hill.
