When the NFL talks about leading with your head, they are referring to contact. Your head is always going to be down when you hit someone with your shoulder. But that doesn't really matter in this case. He's being suspended for targeting the guy's head. I get the chills just writing this, but there was probably a decent chance he could have broken the player's neck.

Yes, and that's my beef with it. When you are leading with your head and are targeting a player's upper-body, you may or may end up making contact with the other player's head, and whether you do or not - regardless of your intentions - is somewhat out of your control.

Your head is usually going to be in the lead, but not necessarily down. Perhaps a nit-picky detail. But my point is that when you launch head-first towards the upper body of a player - even if the intent is to hit with the shoulder - you are risking a head or neck injury to yourself and to the other player. So if you make illegal all headfirst launches towards the upper body - especially the torpedo-like head-down ones - it would be a real step towards better player safety... Plus, when you are not launching, and when you have your head up, you are in better control of the point of impact, and you are more-likely to be making the safer Ronnie Lott-style tackles.

Ok, I see your point. You're talking about the torpedo launch. I could be wrong, but I think that's already illegal. I think several things factored into why he was suspended for the rest of the year.

Something might have clicked w/Bryce Young. Last week he led a game winning fg drive in the muck vs Atl. He followed it up w/a career game today. His 1st 300 yd game w/2 td's & 0 INT's. Panther effort was mucked by the defense's worse performance & 2 missed XP's. He got them into range for a game tying FG @ the end but needed one second more to stop the clock. Difference has been DJ Chark & Tommy Tremble who have upped their games & given BY something to work with.

Brett Favre is dumb as a stump. I am not the least bit surprised that him and his cohorts, as you called it, got swindled.

The Jets will keep Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas. I'm personally happy about this, I didn't want to see them turned into scapegoats for the season.

He never had the ball under control. It is better for the Panthers in the long run to lose the game, but it is still a load of bull how they can have replay and still not be under obligation to get it right. Getting a call wrong in real time can happen. But when you do it after looking at dozens of replay angles, that isn't human error.

Yep. They keep bringing up his record. He's now 17-32, as if that's bad. Yeah it's bad out of context. But when you consider the coach hasn't had a QB his entire time with the team, I think his record is pretty good.

I like Dak, I don't love Dak. But I recognize he doesn't play defense. And for whatever reason the Cowboys can't score points in away games unless they are playing bottom of the barrel teams.

There were a couple of marginal calls in the Dallas game. One, where Dak pulled the defensive player over him, and the second, where Micah Parsons was given a late hit.

The blogosphere is screaming, in Dallas. THIS is why I am not a Cowboy fan. ANYTHING that goes wrong to them is a conspiracy, and they whine like an A-10. The hit by parsons WAS close, and the ref made a call. The rulebook SPECIFICALLY states ..."when in doubt, throw the flag." This is the only time in the entire rulebook that has this type of reference. Parsons had a step and a half to slow up, shy away, or do any number of other actions. He decided to drive through, with a hit very high up on the back of Tua. I think he was trying to hurt him, and get him out of the game. I think the ref agrees with my assessment.

Are we getting on the refs here for not calling the tackles offside on this? If so, this is one of these "yes, technically the rules say X but we don't call this" situations. Tackles in 2-point stances have cheated back towards the pocket since time immemorial and it would require the league to tell the refs to specifically crack down on this to make it stop. Which, since this falls under the heading of "things that protect the quarterback", I doubt they are ever going to do. Anyway, all teams do it so there really isn't any special advantage.

Or am I missing something else?
