After a successful 2023 season, the Krikkit War Robots did not sit on their hands in the off-season. With the success came an influx of PP and packs that were used to add quite a few pieces.
Two new starters were added to the rotation: 1905 Eddie Plank SE and 1982 One-Hit Wonder Tim Lollar. Their addition moves John Buzhardt and Sheriff Blake to the bullpen. Four new starters and 2 bench players were added to the lineup. 1983 All-Time Legend Eddie Murray will take over 1B. 2011 Ian Kinsler SE will man 2B. 2002 Ichiro Suzuki SE will play center. And, 1994 Jeff Bagwell SE will be the new DH. 2007 Snapshot Coco Crisp will provide solid backup defense in the outfield. While 1996 Jay Buhner SE will provide a power bat off the bench. Krikkit hopes to build on last year's success at this more difficult league level. Good luck to all the teams! |

Agree, I decided on the AL Central. I have more of the cards, it's overall easier, it gets me closer to 99 Yaz and has 3 strong pitchers.

I really like opening packs. Between tourneys and challenge mode, I got 14 packs (1 gold) last week. I bought 10 more and did pretty well. 3 diamonds, including the historical Eddie Murray. No gold, though. I'll sell the 2 lives. Those plus duplicates should come close to covering the cost of those 10 packs. |

Our streak ends...
We missed one. Too bad about Cochise County. Hopefully, next week. Looking ahead, I can do S130 and I181, but would happily give one up.
Shinbone/Asylum rivalry continues into a third season in silver. The Keepers hope to avoid being the Stars punching bag again, and, with them in the same division, they'll get plenty of opportunity. Perhaps, with the Stars fattening up on winning the last two challenges, it'll slow them down a bit. By, the way, Keeper Cakes are free (and high calorie) in the visitors clubhouse. Enjoy a half-dozen while you get ready, Shinbone. By the way, I thought to add, "...and start hollering at your players in the press," to the Magus quote, but thought it might be in bad taste. By the way...
Those of you younger folks, who don't recognize OL Public Relations Director, Knucklehead Smith, can search him on youtube.

Looks you're doing a really nice job. I think what also put me off the collections a bit was strolling through the AH and see some of the names. The nostalgia of the game seems to mean more to me than the winning, which sometimes keeps me off a player who might improve the team, but hurt my heart a little. Asylum grabbed another six packs for me to open this morning, but they have gone stone cold in luck. I guess it's evening out from their torrid start-up pace. They did get at least a decent live silver, who might help their tourney roster. I keep all the OL eligible cards, even if they'll never play. In fact the best pull of this morning was a 1914 Honus Wagner, which would have been great for the Rustlers, my bronze tourney team. Ah well, still was cool to look at. I'm almost thinking about having him replace Tony Kubek, but there goes my heart into my throat again. (1960?). As for challenge mode, I use it as a way to play the game. I have a long time Braves save going, which has been some of my best fun yet. We're just entering the Atlanta era, and still a top contender. I switch between my team user names as the log into challenge, and it doesn't seem to have a great impact on pack awards. I'm becoming more convinced that game play time is a very big component. This save has gotten each team at least one pack. When a team earns a pack, I switch to the next in line. In fact, I'm due to switch to Gil_Gamesh, so that means the other teams have both gotten two packs already. Like I said, it's a way to play the game a bit. I sim most of the regular season, but will play a playoff game or two when the timing fits. And it gets me in touch with a wonderful baseball era for me, from the '40's, and now into the mid '60's. I'll probably kick it aside when it gets near 1999, unless I get fired, which is how I usually end them. That part of the game cracks me up. Some of the owners are very, very fickle and dump you quick. |

Am I the last to figure this out?
I like to keep my reserve roster clean on my teams, to avoid the mishap of a live getting in there somehow. I just figured out that the game requires you to keep at least one guy on the reserve. Thinking about instituting a "Last Man Award" or something. Usually I do keep up to a dozen, just in case I want to bench a guy during a bout of magusitis. Also, there's just some names I enjoy seeing in the game.

I try to send all cards that don't fit the old timey theme to the inactive list as soon as I get them just to keep the reserve roster clean of players who don't fit.... not that I ever bring any of them up.... if you're good enough to be on the starting 25, there's not much chance you'll be sent down (unless a better player is acquired to replace you) |

While the Muse are dying this week, the Patriots get the pleasure of seeing their old OL friends. I've also taken the liberty of throwing the Blitzkrieg Boppers into entry pool with an intention to join OL. The 1-time PL champions from PT20 willl be going back to their roots as an 80's theme team now that there are so many more viable 80's players to use.

Asheboro finally gets out of the Rookie League. We had 5 - 6K in PP to spend and instead of trying pack luck (that has been the norm the past coupe of weeks) we went to the Auction House. We purchased the SE Al Rosen to play at 1B and an 89 Gold Rick Rhoden to try and beef up our staff.
I forget if I got this setup last night but the plan is to move my current 1B Cecil Fielder to DH. My current DH Harold Baines to RF and my current RF Tim Salmon to LF (hopefully he isn't a defensive liability in left) and of course new acquisition Rosen to 1B. I am hoping this will improve our offensive numbers, as they have been pretty bad. The pitching carried this team last season.

Cool! I'm a Braves fan, too! Grew up in Atlanta and went to school at Tech. I suffered through the lows of the 80s and feel the 90s was more than deserved for that pain. It was amazing to watch Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz on a nightly basis. Just wish they could've won a couple more WS. I started a 1966 Atlanta re-do, but not in challenge mode. Too bad, because I actually won the WS in '66, downing the mighty Orioles. I might revisit that and restart in challenge mode. |

Boy, having BFF and OL together means a really tough bronze-league matchup. This will separate the "men" from the "boys". I notice that only ten teams (the playoff teams) will advance from bronze this season so I expect several of us will be repeating in bronze next season.

When you only get one hit (solo home run by the third batter of the game), and still manage to pull out the win... (9th inning run = Buck Herzog walk... steals 2nd... steals 3rd.... sacrifice fly
)

I noticed (like others above me in this thread) that we got ourselves a good old FTP league mashup in Bronze 217, so I thought I'd stop by and wish y'all good luck this season. Should be a lot of fun
