Beer League history made at Mispillion River park

With Stephon Olds on second and no outs in the top of the 7th, Miguel Ochoa stepped to the plate for Goose Island. Space Otters reliever Chat Fortner tried to get a quick strike with a 101 mph fastball, but Ochoa was swinging at anything in his zone and stroked the pitch deep into the right field corner for an RBI triple. The 1267 fans on hand stood to give Ochoa an ovation as that triple was his 2000th career hit in Beer League play; the first player to ever reach that mark.

Schaeffer doubles size of 2000 hit club


In the top of the 3rd inning, Firefly Hollow center fielder Vince Schaeffer stepped up to the plate against Sierra Nevada starter Ryan Crimi. After a wild pitch that allowed Kenny Means to score from third, and a called strike on pitch number two; Schaeffer connected on a slider that found the hole between short and third to collect his 2000th career hit, joining Miguel Ochoa as the only Beer League players to achieve that mark.

Mendieta first to 400
