I'll come back to this at some point. I'm exploring OOTP16 right now and I'm messing around with a major league universe that actually integrates some of my old franchises into it, but...I'll get back here eventually. Maybe in two weeks, maybe way longer.

Someone sent me a link to some of my old players and I was having nostalgia about some of my favorite players of old times and it made me wane for this old league.

The Los Angeles Seraphs are just a riff on the Angels but they were founded in 1867 and it's currently 2126. I've always hated the name and they were the Aztecs briefly, but that name sucked too.

Long story short, I want your help figuring out a name for the ballclub. I'd move them, but i'd prefer not to change their history at this late stage. But I'd like a more original name.

Anyone?

Edit: Maybe I'm going to move them to Santa Monica. So I'd like a good Santa Monica nickname maybe.

I went with the Hollywood Stars for a few years and finally named them the Los Angeles Anglers for this year.

We've got 40 teams, because there's a rotating schedule for that setup.

I'm fascinated by the teams that have lots of retired numbers thanks to their histories, whereas some teams don't have any at all. Just like real life, sure, but still, it's interesting.

I'm going to through the league and see who has the most and the ones without any. I was kicking around an idea of doing a dynasty series where I run teams without anyone who has a retired number to see if we could find someone worth retiring their number at all.

In real life baseball, only three teams don't have retired numbers (Marlins, Mariners, Nats) and that's only because the Marlins unretired Carl Barger #5 and Nats unretired all of the Expos numbers. Mariners are just obstinate since they've got guys whose numbers they should have retired, though I guess Toronto didn't have a retired number until Alomar went into the Hall, so maybe it's a Class of '77 thing.

336 year history of the league there have been lots of teams to come and go, because naturally I change my stories over the years -- after all, the league is a continuation of eight or nine years of OOTP versions. It's currently the year 2136, we started in 1800.

The current league setup is comprised of a diverse array of old and new teams. Here are the current teams and how many retired numbers they have.

AMARILLO GOLD SOX (1812): 5 (All from the Colorado Gold Sox era, the team moved in 2121)

BAKERSFIELD SUN SOX (2117): NONE
BALTIMORE ATLANTICS (2048): 2
BOSTON YANKS (1870): 9
BROOKLYN ORIGINALS (1812): 6
CAROLINA WRENS: (1800) 5
CHICAGO ROGUES: (2033) 2
COLORADO KINGS: (2082) NONE
DAYTON DERBIES: (2120) NONE

EL PASO SUN KINGS: 0
FLORIDA ROCKETS: 2

The game doesn't do a great job of retiring numbers. In some cases, teams moved and I unretired the one or two numbers they had retired in cases where the franchise entirely changed its name.

I'm kicking around doing a part of the dynasty from a fan-blog perspective of a team. We always write here in god mode or some variation, but I'd love to put together a team and then watch them as a fan for an entire season, judging moves, reacting and everything that fans do.

339th KEROUAC CUP SERIES

The Brooklyn Originals who last won a title 91 seasons ago against the Philadelphia Quakers whose last title came 100 seasons ago. FINALLY. Should be epic!

And it's a barn burner. We're going to a decisive Game 9. The AI is terrible at managing starters, so it was going to let Philly's 4th starter throw in this game, rather than their ace on short rest. Like is there even a contest?

Rooting for Philly because they went all-in this trade deadline getting two start players in the hopes of getting over the hump, they were a wild card team that had to win a best of 3 just to get here. Then they swept the LDS and LCS beating the best team in baseball Colorado Kings and defending champs (106-56) and then a 1st place St. Louis team to get here.

But we'll see...

The ace didn't get it done. Brooklyn takes home their 8th title in franchise history.

So I went back to the roots of this league and standardized the ballpark. Since last season, what I do is standardized the ballpark dimensions (they all play in the same park) and randomize the park to keep it interesting. Nothing too wild, just so the stats don't go completely wacked.

I'd like to pick a "host" city for the stadium year after year now and will enlist your help. Help me pick some places for the league to play, I don't know how much the weather effects anything in-game, but it might be interesting from year to year to add a bit of variety.

Doesn't have to be a U.S. city either. Needs to be in he weather database somewhere, but...let's try it out.

2140 I'm going to use a random city generator to pick 100 cities and use a random number generator to pick which city.

I used the city generator and used the number generator, but basically that generator picks lots of obscure cities that aren't in the weather database. So I modified my rules to make it "pick the first city on the list of 100 cities you generate that's actually in the weather database."

So the 2140 season will take place in Algiers, Algeria.

We're on the 5th generation of Joe Peters, the original was the greatest player to ever play the game. Unless you're a partisan of Lars-Erik Johansen who was basically Babe Ruth and Cy Young -- combined.

Little League World Series happening right now is making me want to create a version for my dynasty, but since my feeder leagues are fixed to the ABA, they can't get drafted from LLWS to a HS team.

So I need to come up with a way to get them from Little League to a league where they can ply their trade before being drafted. I might create an "independent" style league that caps guys out at 22 so that undrafted players have somewhere to go and then the LLWS guys get drafted into that league.

I figured it out. I'll have a Little League World Series league that'll have guys from age 9 to age 13. Guys get drafted into the NJCAA, JUCO league at age 14 and play until age 17 and then get drafted. It's not ideal agewise, but it works for my league where I already have a huge HS setup AND a college league for NCAA and NAIA, so this seemed like an ideal way to route other types of guys since you can't be draft eligible in my other leagues until 18 (HS) or 19 (NAIA) or 20 (NCAA).

It'll be super interesting to track a guy from Age 9 through little league to juco. Some will surely fall through the cracks and end up in college too, so that'd be even more interesting.

So, is this still open for new players or no?

If so I'd like to join.

Sure, give it a go. I haven't added anyone from the last batch yet, but eventually I'll do it and I can include you with that group.
