2029 Beer League Playoffs: Milling Series
Two teams keep their perfect playoff appearance streaks alive at 10 in a row (Weyerbacher and Russian River); and one team finally breaking through for their first playoff game in team history (Prairie Sun). If end of season streaks carry any weight, Texas Leaguer (5 game winning streak), Goose Island Goslings (3 game winning streak), and Mispillion River Space Otters (3 game winning streak) are on the upswing; while Tree House Tornado (7 game losing streak); Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot (3 game losing streak); Sierra Nevada Narwhals (3 game losing streak); and Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (3 game losing streak) are hoping to break their run of bad luck. Lager League: #1 Texas Leaguer Chin Music (99-63; 4th post season appearance) vs #4 WC Firefly Hollow Dire Chinchilla (82-80; 5th post season appearance) #2 Goose Island Goslings (92-70; 4th post season appearance) vs #3 WC Horsefly Jazzy Razzy (83-79; 8th post season appearance) #3 Mispillion River Space Otters (88-74; 3rd post season appearance) vs #2 WC Tree House Tornado (83-79; 8th post season appearance) #4 Sierra Nevada Narwhals (86-76; 4th post season appearance) vs #1 WC Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot (85-77; 10th post season appearance) Stout League: #1 Toboggan Lunatic Fridge (97-65; 7th post season appearance) vs #4 WC Tattered Flag Man of War (86-76; 3rd post season appearance) #2 Smog City Sabre Toothed Squirrels (95-67; 2nd post season appearance) vs #3 WC Prairie Sun Mad Hopper (87-75; 1st post season appearance) #3 Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow (90-72; 5th post season appearance) vs #2 WC Russian River Blind Pig (89-73; 10th post season appearance) #4 Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (88-74; 4th post season appearance) vs #1 WC Red Rock Elephino (92-70; 4th post season appearance) |

Milling Series - Game 1: #1 Toboggan Lunatic Fridge (97-65; 7th post season appearance) vs #4 WC Tattered Flag Man of War (86-76; 3rd post season appearance)
It took 13 innings to determine the outcome of game 1. When the dust settled, Tattered Flag emerged with an opening game 6-4 road win over the top seed in the league. Man of War shortstop Pat McCullough swung the hot bat, going 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs and a run scored to lead the effort. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #2 Smog City Sabre Toothed Squirrels (95-67; 2nd post season appearance) vs #3 WC Prairie Sun Mad Hopper (87-75; 1st post season appearance)
Smog City first baseman Nate Stevens and shortstop Jason Head both only went 1-for-4 in the game, but those two hits were all the difference as Stevens drove in 2 runs, and Head drove in 1 run in the 6th inning to give the Sabre Toothed Squirrels a 3-2 lead. Carlos Avila and Dusty McCaulley would make that lead hold up over the next three innings as Smog City claimed a 3-2 win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #3 Three Floyds Apocalypse Cow (90-72; 5th post season appearance) vs #2 WC Russian River Blind Pig (89-73; 10th post season appearance)
Three Floyds starter Ben Troyer was on top of his game against the Blind Pig to open the series, tossing a solid 7 innings, giving up just 2 hits and no runs with no walks and 13 strikeouts. Unfortunately for the Apocalypse Cow and their fans, baseball games are 9 innings long. Russian River would snatch victory from the jaws of defeat as they scored three runs in the top of the 9th to grab a 3-1 lead. Closer R.J. Ayala would shut down Three Floyds in the bottom of the 9th to seal the victory and give Russian River a 1-0 series lead. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #4 Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck (88-74; 4th post season appearance) vs #1 WC Red Rock Elephino (92-70; 4th post season appearance) In the only upside-down series this round, the 92 win wild card Red Rock Elephino visited the 88 win 4th seed Sleeping Giant Beaver Duck, and fans of both teams were treated to some bonus baseball in the process. Sleeping Giant were far from asleep at the outset of the game, as they jumped on top 3-0 after the first inning of play. That lead didn't even last a half inning as Red Rock struck back with 4 runs in the top of the second to take a 4-3 lead. Another run in the third would make it a 5-3 game, but the Beaver Duck would get those runs back with 1 in the sixth and 1 in the seventh to tie it up. The game would extend to extra innings before back up catcher Eric Bryan would pick up the game winning RBI with a sacrifice fly to give Sleeping Giant a 6-5 win to open the series |

Milling Series - Game 1: #1 Texas Leaguer Chin Music (99-63; 4th post season appearance) vs #4 WC Firefly Hollow Dire Chinchilla (82-80; 5th post season appearance)
Texas Leaguer called on youngster Chris Brennan to start game 1 of their opening series and the 24 year old didn't disappoint, as he went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs with no walks and 6 strikeouts to keep Firefly Hollow in check enough for the Chin Music offense to do its thing. Texas Leaguer would get RBI production from five different batters and would cruise to a 6-2 victory to open the series. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #2 Goose Island Goslings (92-70; 4th post season appearance) vs #3 WC Horsefly Jazzy Razzy (83-79; 8th post season appearance)
Fans who love double headers were in heaven for the opening game of the Goose Island - Horsefly series, as they played the equivalent of two games worth of innings before an outcome was determined. In the end, after 18 innings, 7 different pitchers, and 14 different batters, Goose Island finally emerged victorious after Robby Salazar dropped in the game winning RBI single to give the Goslings a 4-3 victory |

Milling Series - Game 1: #3 Mispillion River Space Otters (88-74; 3rd post season appearance) vs #2 WC Tree House Tornado (83-79; 8th post season appearance)
Often times in the playoffs, unlikely heroes emerge to propel their clubs to victory. This was one of those games, as Mispillion River left fielder John Farley swung a significantly bigger bat than he did during the regular season (85 games, 287 at bats, 3 home runs) as he went 2-for-4 with 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored to lead his club to a 6-3 victory and a 1-0 lead in the series. |

Milling Series - Game 1: #4 Sierra Nevada Narwhals (86-76; 4th post season appearance) vs #1 WC Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot (85-77; 10th post season appearance)
Fans at the Aquarium were treated to a pitching duel to open the series as Weyerbacher's Chris Sherrard (6.1 innings, 4 hits, no runs, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts) and Sierra Nevada's Bobby Antonio (7 innings, 5 hits, no runs, 3 walks, 8 strikeouts) went pitch for pitch without surrendering a run. They would both turn the scoreless game over to their bullpens and could only sit and watch the outcome. In the bottom of the 7th, Narwhals catcher Aaron Barthel blasted a solo homer to break the ice and give his club a 1-0 lead. Sierra Nevada closer Brad Cohn would make that stand up as he would finish off the final two innings to secure the 1-0 win and the 1-0 series lead. |

Milling Series - Game 2: #1 Toboggan Lunatic Fridge (97-65; 7th post season appearance) vs #4 WC Tattered Flag Man of War (86-76; 3rd post season appearance)
Hoping to avoid the dreaded 0-2 series hole after two home games, Toboggan came out swinging in game 2 and tallied a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third to grab a 3-0 lead. Tattered Flag would strike back the next inning with 2 runs of their own to cut the lead to 3-2. Toboggan would get an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 4-2. That would stand until the 9th inning when the Man of War would silence the Lunatic Fridge home crowd with 2 runs in the top of the 9th to tie up the game 4-4. In the bottom of the 10th, Toboggan's Evan Winton would send the crowd into a frenzy as he blasted a 2 run, game winning homer to give Toboggan a 6-4 win and tie up the series 1-1 (despite the game recap saying Winton had a 2 run strikeout ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Milling Series - Game 2: #2 Smog City Sabre Toothed Squirrels (95-67; 2nd post season appearance) vs #3 WC Prairie Sun Mad Hopper (87-75; 1st post season appearance)
Prairie Sun looked to nab at least one win on the road in the first two games of their first ever post season, and after dropping game 1, they felt game 2 was a near must win. Mad Hopper starter Zach Fitzmaurice (6.1 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts) matched up perfectly with Smog City's Carlos Castro (7 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts) as they both did their part to keep their team in contention. The game would extend to extra innings, where a Smog City substitution in the bottom of the 9th would come back to bite them. In the bottom half of the 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Smog City pulled center fielder Jim Ryles in favor of pinch hitter Dan Silkworth to try and end the game with a base hit. Silkworth would strikeout and the game went to extras. Backup outfielder Adam Wilberding would replace Ryles in center. In the top of the 10th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Prairie Sun right fielder Pat Suggs stepped up and cranked a rocket to dead center. Wilberding misplayed the ball and it went all the way to the wall. Suggs would fly around the bases and end up with an inside the park 3 run homer. Third baseman Ed Molina would blast a solo shot the next at bat for back-to-back home runs, and Prairie Sun would claim a 6-2 victory to tie up the series 1-1 |
