FWIW year two is just past the All-Star break. Sox are in front but my goodness pitching SUCKS! Toronto and Anaheim joined the AL, Sox moved to the AL with, and are now in the same division as their WS opponents ![]() Made some big trades, ending up with the 1st and 10th picks in Rd 1 (and no round 2 pick) My Cy young winner of last year is having an atrocious sophomore season peripheral wise, and I lost a corner OF in the expansion draft. Rumor has it the NL is vying for two franchises this offseason. The league is looking to move to 3 4 team divisions over the coming years. Gehrig Schilling finished his Sophomore year at Medfield HS and had a good year, he and their backstop Tim Haggerty are on the leagues radars! |

I have been ripped to shreds for saying the term 'clutch' is a misnomer and is actually a guy who doesn't rise to the occasion, but rather stays calm under stressful conditions. Many here have tried to run me out on the rail (I highly doubt you will get a neg post) for stating that and that good catchers have a small influence on pitchers and bad catchers can REALLY hurt young pitchers. Plus, that there are intangibles and outliers for stats such as a good coach or manager. I didn't make it out of the minors, so I didn't have any pull, but I am glad that you are here to state it from a MLB viewpoint...maybe I can get more variations in player models, such as a 32 yr old pitcher finding his mojo and getting a shot or a basket case reliever who has a million dollar arm and 10 cent head...or a player that fails because the personnal plus himself is not a good fit, but another club finds his potential

I actually like his PDF. That seems to be a pretty good reading of a pitcher. Last edited by StyxNCa; 07-04-2011 at 08:26 AM. |

I read the forum all the time and have always thought the message board needs a Hall Of Fame for great threads. I nominate this thread to be the 1st inductee in the OOTP forum Hall Of Fame.

I know Honolulu wants a team, and the players association is pushing for a franchise there I also know Montreal and Vancouva are after franchises, as well as Hermosillo, Mexico. They are years off, but ya, it'll be the core franchises eventually and some of my own. Curt |

Hermosillo? Interesting...
Hermosillo is a great baseball town. The Winter Pacific League Naranjeros always put talented clubs on the field. Some of the best Mexican talent in recent years (Valenzuela, Vinny Castilla and Erubiel Durazo) have played for the Naranjeros during the winter, along with some very good American players. I'm just not sure the town would have the infrastructure to host an MLB team. Mexico City and/or Monterrey would be better choices, IMO. I'm curious, what led you to choose Hermosillo, Curt? |

Winter of 1988, punched out 15, then called it a season and went home against my asshat manager demanding I stayed and pitched on short rest

So pitchers do have some control, as much as the defense behind them and the park's inherent properties do, but the biggest factor of all is pure blind luck.

I didn't know about your no-no, though. But that certainly explains why you'd have a soft spot for the Naranjeros, of course! As for your manager, I totally understand why you split. Then again, I can't blame the guy for trying to get you to pitch on short rest, either. ![]() Being Mexican myself, I've gathered info on all Mexican ballparks, including logos, unis, dimensions, capacity, weather, etc. and I'd be happy to share it w/you in case you do end up w/an expansion franchise in Hermosillo. Just let me know if you're interested. |
