I personally believe the Chargers got the same value they would have if they did the deal prior to the draft (largely because pick 4 would've still been prime QB range in that draft) but I do think that's debatable if you disagree with that.

That would be true, but they don't trade up into the top 5 that often for QBs. Unless you consider around 10 times a lot.

Taking into consideration busts, and bad or poorly run teams, 10 times really isn't a lot. And I don't even know if all 10 were trades made prior to the draft. Some of them could have been moving up during the draft.

You have it backwards, the Giants traded the #1 pick for Fran Tarkenton.

Prior to that play, the Chiefs got a 15 yard roughing call that should never have happened. That call is more concerning to me than a ref missing a call.

Football has been set back 100 years in New Orleans today

Carr 13-20 37 yds 1 int
Young 7-21 85 yds
Both teams combined 86 yds net passing
12:16 to go.

Interesting take by Greg Cosell on what everyone missed on Purdy. He said he had 2 qualities that you won't see come up on tape in college because the game isn't built to showcase it.

Which leads again to my belief the NFL needs to take over the development on college kids. College coaches aren't building NFL ready QB's and the game is suffering.

I couldn't believe 2 teams managed to play a worse game.

The NFL is going to die if they do not get their QB situation addressed.

Sure, I think that was his point. There are certain qualities you can't see at the college level.

How do you address it? All you can do is look at the players that stand out in college. Besides that, did college ever prepare QBs for the NFL? Could the reason be that the NFL just hasn't replaced all of the HOF or very good QBs that have retired?

Big Ben, Peyton Manning, Brees, Brady, even QBs like Romo, Rivers, Flacco and Ryan in their prime. These guys all played at the same time. It's not easy to replace them.

So what's your thoughts on how the Chiefs vs Bills game ended? Seeing a lot of folks whining about the call.

I don't want to hear anyone ever complain about any calls ever. Ever. Ask this Packers fan why.

It's addressed by the NFL handling their responsibility. In the past, college coaches felt more of an obligation to teach football in relation to winning football. And you had a 3rd or more teams that ran triple options & run oriented offenses that were considered "college style". That meant your future NFL passers weren't as "spread out" around the nation. They were playing "pro style" offenses that didn't send 5 players into the pattern every down..

But now coaches, and I don't blame them one bit, are more concerned w/winning than teaching. Cause their jobs are on the line. And "college style" is 5 wides in hurry up no huddles that are attacking simple basic defenses. And it seems like the majority are running these types. Few are running pro sets vs disguised defenses and man/zone mixes.

So the NFL can no longer enjoy the colleges sifting the wheat for them. It's no longer a matter of the colleges saving the NFL the trouble. It is a matter now of the poor ingredients affecting the product. So instead of buying the wheat, they need to grow it themselves so they can have better quality control.

After reading Cosell's comments I thought about how when they talk about the top QB prospects, all they talk about is the physical. Arm strength, "can make all the throws", hand size, height, quick release. You rarely hear them talk about pre snap reading of the defense. Identifying mismatches, reading blitzes etc. Cause the colleges aren't requiring those skills anymore. And QB, more than any other position, requires the ability to quickly translate what the eye sees and execute a decision based on that.

That is why I now think so many were intruigued by Anthony Richardson's raw ability. Because these scouts don't really know what these QB's can actually do when they haven't been asked to do so in game situations.

So I go back to what I've said before about the XFL & USFL competing w/college to be the supplier to the NFL. Cause the NFL needs a minor league suppling NFL rosters. Especially at QB. The situation has become desperate. Look who QB'd this week...........

Mitch Trubisky
Bailey Zappe
Gardner Minshew
Jake Browning
Joe Flacco
Davis Mills
Zach Wilson
Nick Mullins
Joshua Dobbs
Aiden O'connell
Drew Lock
Easton Stick
and soon Tommy DiVito

Those are the backups. That doesn't include the other paid QB's on rosters who should be backups @ best right now.

David Carr
Bryce Young
Mac Jones
Daniel Jones
Kenny Pickett
Justin Fields
Desmond Ritter
Baker Mayfield

Think about it.... by default, those 21 names rep the top 65-70 in the world at the position. That is what I call a drought. QB may be hard, but it shouldn't be so hard that you don't have enough to go around for 25 of your 32 teams.

The NFL needs a minor league where the W/L doesn't matter as much as the training & honing of skills useful for the parent team.
