The book against the Mariners is obviously to throw on the outside corners and it seems to be working so far.

Actually not. You are making an erroneous assumption that more homers league wise means more hitting and it does not. But I understand your assertion and I say to each his own. Many different ways to enjoy baseball.

Runs are primarily what makes up hitting and they’re at the same rate that they were 20 years ago. Perhaps Dusty Baker should tell you about that.

Are you going to Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy in this thread some more or just continue being sarcastic?

Sorry! I forgot who I was responding to! My bad!

Yeah, it’s fantastic, although man, my heart could have stood with seeing those runs come across earlier in the game.

Again, sorry monkeyman for taking that out on you!

Wanted to post here to note that a. after releasing him, the M's turned around and signed 3B/RF Brian Anderson to a minor-league deal, and b. Taylor Trammell is as yet unmoved. The league handles DFAs and waivers kind of the exact opposite of how I handle them, which is to say it designates a player for assignment first, uses the 4-5 days of grace to try and trade/sell the player off, and then only when it needs to does it begin the 48/72 hour waiver period.

Anyway, my point there is that there was a lot of banging on the Mariners reddit in particular but probably throughout Mariners-related social media about how it was "so sad" to see these guys go, how we should have done a trade, etc. The fact remains that neither of these guys are all that valuable at this point. Anderson was once a decent, league average-ish hitter with some utility, but that "once" is now 4 years ago at this point (and even that assumes that 2020 was for real), and Trammell is a guy who's hit a Kelenic-y .168 in the major leagues and projects to give you something like a .210 average, 16 HRs, and a sub-.300 wOBA while playing an outfield corner position. The only reason we think highly of those guys - especially Trammell - is that they're Mariners (and in Trammell's case it's because he used to be an interesting prospect, albeit one that didn't pan out).

Trammell might well be claimed off of waivers once the M's put him on them (tomorrow is the deadline I think) but he also might not be. There are probably a hundred guys between AAA and the last couple slots on current major league rosters who can give you what he gives you, and at 27 I just don't think it's feasible to think he's going to provide more some day.

Yeah it can get easy to get emotionally connected to players that are poor performers, you need to know when to move on.

I think it comes down to being a real fan as in fanatic where you love your team no matter what but you still enjoy tearing them apart when they frustrate you for the majority of 47 years .
Nothing wrong with that. You get to root anyway you want and for those that have problems with it well perhaps they should move on

I like the way Servais is using the bullpen so far. And I love JRod's defense so far. He is playing with a lot of passion and that is good news for the Mariners.

Jrod always plays with a ton of passion, I am so glad that they signed him to that long term contract as he is so much fun to cheer for. I want to see him have a 40-40 season, maybe someday the first 50-50 season!

Scott Servais has to be yelling at the Mariners players that they are swinging and missing to much so that's the first thing I'm looking at against Milwaukee and looking to see if players like Polanco and JRod start hitting better. I think the poor starts from Castillo and Kirby will sort itself out in the long run.

It seems like Groundhog's day over and over the same story for this team. New players sprinkled in with the same results, so far. It has only been two series and 3-4 is not a terrible start but this hitting problem has got to be addressed. Cleveland didn't have a problem hitting in T-Mobile in April, so that's not an excuse. This Road trip could be significant if things stay the same. Yet they can have a dreadful April and still turn it around as that is the wonderful thing about baseball. This hitting thing just gets old really fast. Is it a Jerry/Scott thing or is it about leadership and lack thereof on the team itself? Hard to watch...

The mariners always seem to show up late to the party in recent years. They always start off slow and underperform against subpar competition. Their bullpen does seem better this year and they are doing better in one run games so far so that is a good sign. I'm in wait and see mode so far. Especially since Houston has not been hot out of the gate(no hitter not withstanding).
