Quote:
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA by Nat Wright-Kawolski 10 September 2316 CBO Wildcard Round Results NCA - #5 Concord Radstags vs #4 Cambridge Coursers Game 1: Concord 3, Cambridge 1 Road Win Lifts Concord to 1-0 Lead in WCR The Concord Radstags powered past the hometown Cambridge Coursers, 3-1, in the opener of the Wildcard Round at Cambridge Polymer Field. Concord starting pitcher Frank Heart threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Radstags now lead the series 1-0. Two Shoes Rivera, who finished 4th in the NCA in batting average with .331 in 2316, had a direct impact on the outcome. Rivera contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Concord up, 3-1. "We'll take some time to unwind," said Rivera, "and then get after it again." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cambridge Polymer Field in Cambridge. Game 2: Concord 4, Cambridge 3 Concord Advances to Association Semifinal Round Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the North Charles Association Wildcard Round. It turned out quite a bit different. The Concord Radstags swept aside the Cambridge Coursers to advance to the Association Semifinal Round, winning the final game by a 4-3 score at Cambridge Polymer Field. The series MVP was first baseman Two Shoes Rivera, who hit .375 with a .375 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 1 run. "We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it." The Concord Radstags will play against the Malden Grognaks in the next round. Malden had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes. NCA - #6 The Slog Ghouls vs #3 Easy Town Assaultrons Game 1: Easy Town 4, The Slog 3 Assaultrons Edge Ghouls, 4-3, to Open WCR The Easy Town Assaultrons faced a tough opponent in The Slog Ghouls pitcher Quincy Jones, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Wildcard Round, which they now lead 1-0. The Assaultrons won, 4-3, at Easy Town Field, despite the Ghouls getting a strong start from right-hander Jones, who went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Had Buns Palmer not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Palmer hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Assaultrons. Palmer said his team "played with determination." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Easy Town Field in Easy Town. Game 2: The Slog 6, Easy Town 3 The Slog Win Evens Series at 1 When the games really matter, the The Slog Ghouls put on their best show, beating the Easy Town Assaultrons by a final score of 6-3. Tarzan Rogers threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The series now sits at 1-1 in the best-of-3 affair. Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Kilometers Davis? The former first round draft pick Davis stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put The Slog up, 5-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single. "It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Davis. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Tarberry Field Forever in The Slog. Game 3: Easy Town 2, The Slog 1 Assaultrons Prevail, as Wildcard Round Goes to the Wire A classic and dramatic Wildcard Round has wrapped up, with the Easy Town Assaultrons outlasting the The Slog Ghouls to advance to the Association Semifinal Round. Easy Town won the final game by a score of 2-1 and took the series 2-1. "We can enjoy this one tonight, but then it's back to work and thinking about the next win," said Easy Town third baseman Well Done Dungan, whose standout performance earned him the nod as series MVP. Dungan hit .455 with a .538 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 0 RBI and scored 4 runs. The Easy Town Assaultrons will play against the Bunker Hill 75ers in the next round. Bunker Hill had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes. SCA - #5 Diamond City Swatters vs #4 Glowing Sea Rascorpions Game 1: Glowing Sea 4, Diamond City 2 Wildcard Round Game 1 Goes to Glowing Sea, Thanks to Jet The Glowing Sea Radscorpions powered past the visiting Diamond City Swatters, 4-2, in the opener of the Wildcard Round at Glowing Sea Dome. Glowing Sea catcher Yvuh Jet was 3-3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, to lead the charge. The Radscorpions now lead the series 1-0. The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Jet hit a 2-run home run off Macho Lopez. It propelled the Radscorpions into the lead, 2-0. "We played a good game and came out on top," said Jet. The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Glowing Sea Dome in Dover. Game 2: Glowing Sea 6, Diamond City 5, 12 inn. Radscorpions Dominate, Sweep Wildcard Round The Glowing Sea Radscorpions have swept the Diamond City Swatters and are on to the Association Semifinal Round. Glowing Sea won 6-5 today at Glowing Sea Dome to clinch the Wildcard Round. "We're happy to have put the dagger in when we had the chance," said Glowing Sea catcher Yvuh Jet, who was named MVP for the series. "It could have been a tough series to finish if we let them start winning." Jet won the award with a .625 batting average and a .625 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 3 runs. The Glowing Sea Radscorpions will play against the Vault 81 Dwellers in the next round. Vault 81 had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes. SCA - #6 Quincy Gunners vs #3 Oberland T-51s Game 1: Quincy 8, Oberland 3 Road Win Lifts Quincy to 1-0 Lead in WCR With left fielder Alchemist Hall leading the charge, the Quincy Gunners got a road win over the Oberland T-51s, 8-3, in Game 1 of the Wildcard Round. Hall was 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 at Oberland Stadium to help Quincy take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series. Brad Hop hit a 2-run triple off Sarthis Idren in the top of the third, which put the Gunners in front, 4-2. Hop had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5. Hop called the win the result of "everyone being in sync." The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oberland Stadium in Oberland. Game 2: Oberland 8, Quincy 2 Raucous Oberland Stadium Crowd Propels T-51s to 8-2 Victory; Series Tied at 1 The Oberland T-51s took down the Quincy Gunners by the score of 8-2 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Wildcard Round. The largest share of the credit belongs to Oberland starter Emperry Alizm, who threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. In the bottom of the sixth, Oberland center fielder Earthbound Bussey had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Bussey stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 3-1, Oberland. For the game, he was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. "If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Alizm. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at The Stone House in Quincy. Game 3: Quincy 4, Oberland 2 Quincy Takes Wildcard Round The joy and relief on the faces of the Quincy Gunners players was obvious as they celebrated their Wildcard Round win over the Oberland T-51s. "In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Quincy left fielder Alchemist Hall, shortly after the 4-2 win that clinched the series 2-1. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done." The team is now off to the Association Semifinal Round. Hall won series MVP honors on the strength of his .462 batting average during the series. He also had a .462 on-base percentage and 0 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 3 runs. The Quincy Gunners will play against the Atom Cats in the next round. Atom had a bye in the Wildcard Round. The Association Semifinal Round schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Round finishes. CBO Playoff Tree

CBO Playoffs 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 10 September 2316 NCA Playoffs Preview - Association Semifinals Round #5 Concord Radstags (68-62) vs #1 Malden Grognaks (86-44) Season Series: Malden 2, Concord 2 May 27-28 @Mal: Mal 5-1, Mal 8-2 August 7-8 @Con: Con 5-0, Con 4-3 (10) Analysis Since Malden is entering only its second playoff appearance in franchise history, there is no playoff history between these two teams. A year ago, the Grognaks were the 5th seed, while Concord was the 6th seed. Both lost in the Wildcard Round. This time, they meet in the Association Semifinal Round with Malden as the surprise #1 seed this season. During the season, each team won its home games. In those four games, the Stags' Jannar Arbor (.417/1/3) and the Grognaks' Jack of Diamonds Cordero (.667/1/3) were the best offensive performers for their teams. Pitching matchup best performances were Concord's Kevin Gauzeman (1-0, 0.00) and Malden's Hry Caje (1-0, 2.00). The Grognaks earned the CBO's best record through all-around statistical success, especially on offense. The Grognaks were 1st in almost all offensive categories, including runs scored (636). Their home runs numbers (95) was 10th, as the one low statistic outside of stolen bases. 3B Jacob Tarberry (.338/25/100) is the hands-on favorite to win the Nuka-Hitter Award. RF Floren Habern (.337/13/64) and 2B Cordero (.316/12/70) give great support in the middle of the lineup. On the mound,. Malden was 2nd in runs allowed (458), including finishing 4th in Starters ERA (3.28) and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (3.01). All three playoff starters--Hry Caje (19-8, 2.67), Storm Steele (4-6, 3.08), and Vault Boy Barnette (6-0, 2.38) found success. Barnette returned from a shoulder injury in May to pict a total of nine starts, while Steele was called up from Plymouth (NEBL, AAA) during the season. CL Rump Pellstilt (32 SV, 2.11) led the NCA in saves. Prediction If Concord were a playoff-veteran team, this might be a different conversation. True, the Stags are in their franchise-record third-straight playoff appearance. However, the past two seasons, the Radstags went a combine 1-4 to get swept in 2314 and beaten in three games in 2315. They won their Wildcard Round series this time, defeating first-timers, Cambridge. With the Grognaks having playoff experience and more regular season success, we have to give them the edge in this series. Malden 3, Concord 1 #3 Easy Town Assaultrons (69-61) vs #2 Bunker Hill 75ers (70-60) Season Series: Bunker Hill 3, Easy Town 1 June 22-23 @BH: BH 3-2, BH 4-0 August 14-15 @ET: BH 6-4, ET 4-3 Analysis Bunker Hill is making its third-consecutive playoff appearance for the second time in playoff history (2308-2310). This is the 75ers 8th total playoff appearance and 7th in nine seasons. The two seasons missing the playoffs were winning seasons, meaning they just missed out in 2311 (one game back) and 2313 (two games back). Going back to the beginning of that success, though, in 2308, the Fivers were making their second playoff appearance. As the #3 seed, Bunker Hill downed #2 Sunshine Tidings, finished off #5 Starlight in the NCACS, and then upset #1 seed Oberland in the Sole Survivor Series to win their sole championship. It was also the 75ers only Sole Survivor Series appearance. In the history of the playoffs, Bunker Hill and Easy Town have appeared in the playoffs together just twice (2298 and 2315).In 2298, when the Fivers were still the Abernathy Adamantium, the #3 Assaultrons downed the #2 Adamantium in the Association Semifinal. The Trons went on to lose the Sole Survivor Series that season. In 2315, neither team met, but both advanced as wildcards to the Association Semifinal Round. Bunker Hill fell to #2 Lexington there, and then the Assaultrons fell in the NCACS to the Synths. For the 75ers, runs were tough to come by, finishing 10th in the NCA in runs scored (507). In fact, the longball seemed to be the best way to score, finishing 3rd with 109. CF Esau Babz, one of the two dynamic Babz twins in this brother vs brother matchup, led the Fivers with 20 home runs. SS Aaron Squire added 19, and both 1B Zod Gaycey and LF Kasumi Goto added 14 each. Bunker Hill's pitching was its strength, especially starting pitching, where it finished 1st with a 3.00 ERA. The 75ers were also 3rd in runs allowed (473) and 8th in Bullpen ERA (3.61). One starter, Hangman Alley (1-1, 2.10) missed a lot of the season due to a nerve issue in his arm. He joins ace Jalep Temper (14-5, 2.54) and Pokey Chatman (7-10, 3.15) in the starting lineup. Oldshirt McMinn (11-12, 2.78) is expected to move to the bullpen. CL Cleveland Heep (23 SV, 2.62) does an OK job of shutting down teams late. Trauma Medley (10-10, 3.68) also moves to the bullpen for the playoffs and may fill in as the closer. Prediction It's been 18 years since these two teams met in the playoffs, and the first time as a Bunker Hill vs Easy Town matchup. The 75ers seemed to survive being the Institute League champions, while the Assaultrons, PAM's pick to be the champions, came on late, including going 20-10 in the last month of the season to move up the association standings. The 75ers won the season series, showing that they are one team that can handle the Trons. We also think this will be a battle and pick PAM to be righter than we thought she would be. Easy Town 3, Bunker Hill 2.

CBO Playoffs 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 11 September 2316 SCA Playoffs Preview - Association Semifinals Round #4 Glowing Sea Radscorpions (73-57) vs #1 Vault 81 Dwellers (79-51) Season Series: Glowing Sea 6, Vault 81 4 April 12-13 @GS: GS 4-3, V81 10-0 May 5-7 @V81: GS 3-1, GS 2-0, V81 6-5 July 18-20 @GS: V81 8-1, V81 4-2 (10), GS 6-1 August 5-6 @V81: GS 6-2, GS 9-3 Analysis The regular season matchup between Glowing Sea and Vault 81 went in favor of the Radscorpions but with somewhat strange results. The Scorpions went 4-1 at Vault 81, while the Dwellers enjoyed a 3-2 advantage in the Dome. While both teams were in the playoffs in both of Glowing Sea's two seasons appearing (2313 and 2315), this will be the first matchup after the Radscorpions got past Diamond City in their third try. For the Scorpions, they are now 1-2 in their franchise playoff series history, all against the Swatters. Vault 81 is again the best all-around team despite PAM's preseason predictions that they would fall out of playoff contention. On offense, the Dwellers lead in almost all offensive categories, including runs scored (593). They finished 2nd in home runs (109) but 12th in stolen bases (64). C Phantom Vargas (.306/21/76) had an excellent season with help from 2B King Hippo (.307/15/56/19 SB) and RF Pockets Wrench (.317/15/68). The pitching crew was also good, finishing 1st in runs allowed (432), including 2nd in Starters ERA (3.02) and Bullpen ERA (3.11). Zack Million (15-10, 2.49) did not always get the run support needed but was efficient throughout the season. Scruffy Taguchi (18-7, 3.03), Exxie Summerset (11-9. 3.37), and Ryan Goodpryce (10-10, 3.21) all pitched well as starters. Goodpryce is expected to move to the bullpen for the postseason. CL Dynamite Delaney (27 SV, 3.68) had a lot of saves but needs to be better in the playoffs. Prediction The defending champions play against a team with little playoff experience and even less playoff success. While the Radscorpions won the regular season series, we are not expecting miracles here. The Dwellers are just that good and should be favorites to repeat as CBO champions until they do not. Vault 81 3, Glowing Sea 1 #6 Quincy Gunners (68-62) vs #2 Atom Cats (70-60) Season Series: Quincy 6, Atom 4 May 20-22 @Qui: Qui 8-1, Atom 2-0, Qui 1-0 July 3-4 @Atom: Qui 9-1, Atom 5-2 August 25-27 @Atom: Qui 2-0, Atom 4-3 (13), Qui 10-3 August 31-September 1 @Qui: Qui 10-6, Atom 4-2 Analysis Quincy beat Atom 6 games to 4 in the regular season matchup despite finishing two games back. That string included a 3-2 mark in the last week of the season, and the Gunners won the first game of all four two or three-game series they played. Should they get a win in Game 1, we can probably pick where this series goes. With Quincy making its sixth playoff appearance and Atom making its ninth, there were opportunities for both teams to play, but this season is the third-straight and third overall season they have both been in the playoffs. In 2314, Quincy entered as the #2 seed and Atom as the #5 seed. Both teams made the Association Semifinals, but only the Gunners advanced and ended up reaching the Sole Survivor Series. Last season, they met in the Wildcard Round with University Point as the #2 seed. Quincy got the best of the Cats, winning the only previous playoff matchup between the two. Atom may have won the Minutemen League in 2316, but there is not a whole lot of confidence to how well they would fare against the Dwellers or Grognaks. For their ASF game against the Gunners, though, the Cats have to have some confidence. On offense, they finished 7th in scoring (505) with most of their best production coming from 1B McMack Bingham (.310/14/66) and CF Hickory Dockery (.284/13/47), The Cats' pitching finished 5th in runs allowed (478) and Starters ERA (3.21). All three playoff starters--Josh Brown (16-10, 2.25), K-9 Creep (17-12, 3.12), and Junkyard Gourd (12-11, 3.29)--had good seasons. Typical starter, Mesquite Williams (8-7, 4.01), was not having as good a season but is out until next season with an injury. CL Dylan Davies (15 SV, 4.70) is also injured. Prediction While Atom is the higher seed, the Gunners have the season advantage regardless of home or away and beat the Cats last postseason. That seems to give them an advantage. At the same time, Atom seems to be the better all-around team, meaning they should have at least the chance to win this series. We just do not see it as a sound prediction. That means, we go with the Gunners. Quincy 3, Atom 2
