---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL and APL by Evan Guy 1 July 2316 S Bradberton Tied, Victory Leads N Bradberton The Victory Cave Crickets hold a 3.5 game lead in the North Bradberton Division, while both Quartz and Orange are tied at 27-23 in the South Bradberton Division. At 15-34, Dark has the NWL's worst record. The Cave Crickets are 1st in runs scored (300) and 2nd in runs allowed (216), making them the odds-on favorites to take the Nuka Series based on regular season performance. Victory won the title, its 5th, in 2314. For the Star Force, they are seeking their first playoff appearance since 2303. They last won the title in the first season of the NWL, 2299. Quartz is 4th in runs scored (271) and 3rd in runs allowed (233). The Force also leads the Tourists in the season series, 5-4. For Orange, they are seeking a return to the Nuka Series for the first time since 2311. They won the title in 2308. This season, the Tourists are 2nd in runs scored (294) and 5th in runs allowed (252). A hot-hitting Swamp Dantin punished NWL pitchers in June, hitting .434 in 21 games while racking up 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored. With those numbers it came as no surprise that Cherry's 30-year-old first baseman earned Nuka World League Batter of the Month honors. Dantin currently has a .346 batting average with 63 hits, 10 homers, 42 RBIs, 33 runs scored and a .413 OBP. June's top hurler was Lino Campione of Grape. He shackled Nuka World League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 6-0 mark. The 22-year-old Campione added 15 strikeouts in 46 innings and 6 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.37 ERA. Other clubs hit .212 against him. Thus far this season, Campione has worked 77.2 innings with 31 strikeouts en route to a 7-3 record and a 2.20 ERA. Campione also earned Rookie of the Month honors today in the Nuka World League, posting solid numbers in June. The Grape pitcher put up a 6-0 mark with a 1.37 ERA and struck out 15 in 46 innings. He allowed opposing hitters to hit .212 and walked 6 batters. In 11 starts this season, Campione has gathered 7 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 77.2 innings, allowed 74 hits, struck out 31 and has a 2.20 ERA. In the Amusement Park League, both the Red Rocket Radrats and Junkyard Space Cadets are knotted up in the North Division. The Dunmore Ferris Wheels have a three-game lead in the South Division thanks to a current seven-game winning streak. Even though he is a newcomer to Amusement Park League, Rick Harde put up some good numbers in June and earned the APL Batter of the Month award. He was one of Red Rocket's offensive leaders with a .417 average in 17 games. He also racked up 5 home runs, 11 RBIs, and 19 runs scored. The Dunmore Ferris Wheels celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Jedrick Ksiazek had been selected as June's Amusement Park League Pitcher of the Month. Ksiazek's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic. "Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Ksiazek said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs." Ksiazek tossed 23 innings last month, holding opponents to a .247 average while striking out 8 batters. In 3 starting assignments he came away with a 3-0 record, putting together an ERA of 2.35. ---------------------------------------------------------- Vim! View News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates by Jimmy Gresham 1 July 2316 Dalton Farm and Acadia Spell A-W-E-S-O-M-E This Vim! League season, which may go down as the best season in the history of baseball, has two teams that we cannot take our eyes away from. Unless the fog prevents us, that is. Those two teams are the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers and Acadia Acadians. Each leads their division by 2.5 games and represent two of the Vim! League's three winning teams. At 25-24, Eden Meadows is the third. The Fog Crawlers have a long history of success, winning four straight Vim! Series titles from 2303-2306. Last season, the Crawlers lost in the Vim! Series to Far Harbor. In all, Dalton Farm has appeared in seven Vim! Series with six of those appearances coming between 2302-2308 (six in seven seasons). The Acadians won the title in 2314, downing National Park that season. It was the second-straight Vim! Series appearance for Acadia and the only two in franchise history. This season would mark their third Vim! Series. Hazmatt Zuniga relied on a .308 average to become the Vim! League Batter of the Month. He had a good June, going 24 for 78. He finished with 4 home runs and 17 RBIs, scored 21 runs, and had a .444 on-base percentage. This season, Zuniga has hit at a .333 clip with 35 RBIs, 9 home runs and 42 runs scored. He has played in 48 games. No doubt about it! Grand Hotel starter TD Sixpoint earned his Vim! League Pitcher of the Month award. He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in June. During the month Sixpoint chalked up a 4-1 record with a 2.58 ERA. The Atoms star made 5 starts and surrendered 27 hits in 38.1 innings. He struck out 30 and walked 16. So far this season, Sixpoint has a 7-1 record, 9 starts, 67.1 innings, 41 strikeouts and a 3.34 ERA. When it came to hitting the baseball, Ax Tyrell had few peers in the Vim! League last month. The gifted shortstop for Echo Lake tagged opposing pitchers for a .317 average and was voted the Rookie of the Month for June. Included in his stats were 32 hits, 4 homers, 20 runs scored and 15 RBIs. Tyrell is currently batting .278 with 8 home runs and 28 RBIs. In the Mount Desert Island League, the Rock Point Barnacles have a five-game lead over Brooke's Head in the Small Bertha Division. Rayburn Point leads Kitteredge by a game in the Old Longfellow Division. Kitteredge Rad Rabbits fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in June. Victor Fontaine put up a remarkable month at the age of 19 and has been named the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month. For the month, Fontaine hit .397 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Sceolang Dog really strutted his stuff in June with 3 wins and no losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Mount Desert Island League. The Rock Point starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition. In 34.2 innings of work, Dog limited opposing batters to 20 base hits and a .169 batting average. He totaled 20 strikeouts, issued 12 walks and had a 1.30 ERA.

July 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 3 July 2316 CBO Analysis Now that we have reached July, aka Trade Month, we are starting to see a distinctive split between the haves and have-nots. In the NCA, we still think that there are 10 teams in contention with four teams out and maybe nine in contention in the SCA. We will mention those teams in the league overviews below, but first, here are the current team power rankings for the Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (129.8, o) 2) Malden Grognaks (112.8, o) 3) The Slog Ghouls (104.5, +) 4) Bunker Hill 75ers (102.5, o) 5) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (102.2, +) 6) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (101.9, +) 7) Atom Cats (101.5, ++) 8) Cambridge Coursers (100.5, -) 9) Spectacle Island Reapers (99.7, ++) 10) Roxbury Rad Sox (97.3, ++) 11) Diamond City Swatters (97.2, --) 12) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (94.3, -) 13) Easy Town Assaultrons (94.0, ++) 14) Oberland T-51s (89.7, --) 15) Lexington Synths (88.3, -) 16) Nahant Celtics (87.3, ++) 17) Goodneighbor Hancocks (87.0, +) 18) Egret Ninjas (87.0, --) 19) University Point Deathclaws (86.3, --) 20) Quincy Gunners (84.0, --) 21) Concord Radstags (82.0, +) 22) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (81.7, --) 23) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (77.1, ++) 24) FHE Yao Guai (72.3, --) 25) County Crossing Bloodbugs (72.1, --) 26) Salem Witch Hats (72.1, -) 27) Southie Brews (63.9, o) 28) Starlight Killers (52.5, o) Brotherhood League Malden has a strong grasp on both the BL and the NCA for the best record. At 48-28, the Grognaks are five up on Nordhagen Beach for the NCA's best record. The Slog is the only other BL team above .500. At 38-38 and 36-40, Easy Town and Nahant, respectively, are still in the playoff hunt but need to change their fortunes soon. County Crossing and Salem are both on the outside looking in and in contention for the #3 draft pick behind Starlight and Southie. For the Ghouls, a slow 9-11 start to the season turned into a great June where they went 17-10. Now, the 2314 champions are back in contention with two teams that have not "been there" as of late ahead of them. On offense, The Slog is 4th in runs scored (329). SS Gavin Deux-Gas (.292/9/41/17 SB) and LF Name Brand Brown (.291/10/39/9 SB) have been the offensive leaders. Pitching is a little behind, currently 10th in runs allowed (312). Three pitchers all have sub-4.00 ERAs: Flirt Perez (7-5, 3.10), Quincy Jones (11-6, 3.46), and Isaiah Swindler (4-10, 3.69). Institute League The IL is a tight affair, but Fort Hagen's current seven-game losing streak has dropped them from 1st to 3rd. Bunker Hill and Cambridge have jumped the Shroud and have a two-game lead as they are tied at 42-34. The Silver Shroud would be the 6th seed in the NCA playoffs, but Lexington at a game back of them and Sunshine Tidings at 1.5 back are still very much in the playoff race. Concord has started to fade away and has entered pretender status as the 6th-place team. On a five-game winning streak, the Killers are now out of the pace for the worst record in CBO history but still have a strong hold on the #1 overall draft pick in 2316. The Synths are starting to make their move it appears, despite dropping their last two and going 4-6 in their last 10. The offense needs to find ways to score runs, which would change fortunes and put Lexington right back in title contention. The Synths are tied for 9th in runs scored (305) with much of that seeming to be because of power, 13th in home runs (49). 1B World B. Free (.341/10/37) is the homers leader despite his limited number of at-bats. Three players capable of hitting a ton of home runs--CF Packs Ton Kling (.264/6/34), 3B Tommy Whitetiger (.250/5/28), and RF Hurr Lee Reyes (.300/3/20)--just are not getting the bombs in 2316. Reyes missed three weeks due to an injury to his foot. On the mound, Lexington is 3rd in runs allowed (273) and has the best Bullpen ERA (3.04). Both veterans Deedee Martinson (11-5, 2.86) and Admiral Kelm (10-4, 2.32) have led the rotation with CL Hunter Kim (20 SV, 1.08) leading the bullpen. Minutemen League Atom has now taken some control in the ML and leads by 1.5 games over a hotter Spectacle Island team. Quincy has faded in the past two weeks and now is tied with Goodneighbor for 3rd place at 38-38. University Point can still be considered a contender at 36-40, but the Deathclaws need to somehow find their early-season success again. Losing Ziggy Stardust in centerfield affected the productivity of the entire outfield. Jamaica Plain is 10 back of .500 and the Brews possess the SCA's worst record, making both of those teams pretenders. The Reapers are suddenly in competition to win the Minutemen League at just 1.5 back. Spectacle Island last made the playoffs in 2308, part of a three-year stretch where they also won their only ML title in 2306. The Reapers are 4th in runs scored (317) with 3B Donovan Mackey (.332/8/44) leading the way. 1B Griffin Herring (.255/9/30) and SS Nippy Ben Nippolt (.287/7/35) have also contributed. On the mound, the Reapers are 9th in runs allowed (313). While some of the pitching could be better, Aqua Purified (12-2, 2.45) has been dominant. CL Alien Mars (12 SV, 2.61) is doing OK but not as good in a pitcher's year. Railroad League Vault 81 now possesses the CBO's best record by three games over the Grognaks. The defending champions are looking to make it back-to-back at this point, leading two very good teams in Glowing Sea and Diamond City by seven games apiece. In 4th place, Oberland is the last true contender in the RL with all of Roxbury, Egret, and FHE just not quite good enough to be playoff teams in 2316. The T-51s are teetering on the back end of the playoffs, though they look to be in good shape moving forward. Where they are absolutely the best is in hitting, currently the SCA's top scoring team (360). LF Foo Fieterz (.322/15/65) is tied for the SCA lead in home runs and leads the CBO in RBI. 2B Odd Todd Walker (.300/9/39/38 SB) is probably the CBO's top leadoff hitter. SS Stormin' Normin MacDonald (.296/7/39) continues to be a top player. Pitching is not as good, currently 10th in run allowed (328), including being at the bottom in Starters ERA (4.36). Ace Sarthis Idren (9-3, 2.98) has been good, but veteran Lannie Tykeson (5-7, 6.63) is probably way past his pitching prime and should become a pinch hitter, though a .194/0/6 in 36 at bats, Tykeson may be done all-around. The closer role has had a rotation of players with former closer William Butcherman (5-0, 1.98), the 2nd all-time saves leader, and 2315's closer Sappy Castro now with Fort Hagen not in the role in 2316. That has been Wunmore Tomorrow (20 SV, 2.48) who has been decent. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week June 26 - Innis Sark demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Fort Hagen left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .452 average (14-for-31) with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Looking at his season stats, Sark has compiled a .312 batting average and a .400 on-base percentage, while hitting 6 home runs and driving in 36 runs. Not every ball that came off Honker Trinkl's bat last week was a line drive or a towering shot -- it just seemed that way to the teams that played the Roxbury Rad Sox. For his exploits, Trinkl was named this week's South Charles Association Player of the Week award. The Roxbury first baseman put up 12 hits in 25 at-bats and 5 home runs while hitting .480 with 13 RBIs and 8 runs scored. For the year, Trinkl has hit .309 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 39 runs. July 3 - His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Jacob Tarberry was rewarded with the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The scrappy Malden Grognaks third baseman hit .409 while collecting 9 hits in 22 at-bats, 5 home runs and 11 RBIs. This year, Tarberry has socked 101 hits in 290 at-bats for a .348 average with 18 home runs. He is getting on base at a .408 pace and his totals also include 60 RBIs and 57 runs scored. Tre' Morgueman punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the South Charles Association Player of the Week award. The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets third baseman slashed out a .435 average with 10 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs and 4 RBIs. This year, Morgueman has collected a .242 batting average to date with 66 hits in 273 at-bats, 24 RBIs, 7 home runs and scored 31 times. He has played in 72 games. CBO Noteworthy News June 21 - After an undisclosed incident, the Spectacle Island Reapers announced that they had released RP B.J. Blankenship (0-2, 8.24). Four days later, Blankenship was signed to a contract by Nahant. June 22 - With the mid-season mark upon us, now is a great time to update the pre-season BNN Top 100 Prospect list with what we have learned to this point. This year, 20 year-old RHP Lane Phrasemaker of the FHE Yao Guai is the #1 prospect overall. Here is the top 10: 1) RHP Lane Phrasemaker, 20, FHE Yao Guai 2) LHP Paul Bird, 19, Spectacle Island Reapers 3) RHP Petie Pembroke, 20, Nordhagen Beach Party Boys 4) 2B Ash Ledbetter, 17, Starlight Killers 5) 1B Cy Sutcliff, 24, The Slog Ghouls 6) LHP Mike Searocker, 18, Egret Ninjas 7) SS Cajun Darri, 18, Goodneighbor Hancocks 8) SS No Neck Lok, 19, Nahant Celtics 9) 2B Rukiya Simamba, 18, Sunshine Tidings Chemists 10) C Waldy Poleska, 18, Nahant Celtics

July 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 17 July 2316 CBO Analysis We have reached the 2/3 mark of the regular season, and some teams are getting close to clinching their standing above or below .500. At 59-29, the defending champions, Vault 81, hold the CBO's best record, while Starlight has gotten better but still has a stronghold on the CBO's worst record at 25-62. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (131.6, +) 2) Malden Grognaks (116.5, -) 3) Diamond City Swatters (109.4, +) 4) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (102.2, o) 5) Bunker Hill 75ers (102.1, ++) 6) Oberland T-51s (100.1, +) 7) Concord Radstags (99.0, +) 8) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (98.2, --) 9) Lexington Synths (97.0, ++) 10) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (96.2, o) 11) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (93.1, ++) 12) Goodneighbor Hancocks (93.0, +) 13) Quincy Gunners (92.0, ++) 14) The Slog Ghouls (90.1, --) 15) Egret Ninjas (89.9, ++) 16) Atom Cats (88.1, --) 17) Cambridge Coursers (88.1, --) 18) Nahant Celtics (86.9, -) 19) Easy Town Assaultrons (84.0, --) 20) Spectacle Island Reapers (83.0, --) 21) Salem Witch Hats (82.9, +) 22) Roxbury Rad Sox (78.9, -) 23) County Crossing Bloodbugs (77.7, +) 24) FHE Yao Guai (77.6, ++) 25) University Point Deathclaws (76.9, --) 26) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (71.8, -) 27) Southie Brews (61.5, -) 28) Starlight Killers (53.7, o) Brotherhood League Malden had the best 10-game stretch in the BL, going 7-3 to extend their league lead to six games over Nordhagen Beach. The Slog is the last of the teams above .500 and in clear playoff contention. The rest of the BL is below .500: Easy Town, Nahant, Salem, and County Crossing. The Assaultrons were picked to win the Brotherhood League and claim the CBO's top record. Instead, the Trons have a Nuka-Hitter Award candidate in 2315 winner, Eden Babz (.340/7/36/54 SB). Otherwise, Easy Town is 8th in runs scored (357) with their best offensive category being 1st in stolen bases (118). 1B Albie Cannibal (.303/9/37) leads the team in home runs, while LF Newt Jordan (.265/4/40) leads in RBI. On the mound, the Trons are 6th in runs allowed (339). All three of Lonely Gale (9-8, 3.32), Tarzan Rogers (9-6, 3.59), and Cohort Williams (12-6, 3.20) have ERAs below 4.00, but this is a year where the raised mound has lowered top pitchers to ERAs below 3.00. The NCA average is 3.54. That number would shatter the record-low 4.11 in 2301. Institute League There are ups and downs for all teams in the Institute League, but the number of games separating 1st and 6th is just four. That means this league is the most up for grabs league in the CBO. Right now, Bunker Hill has a 1.5-game lead over Sunshine Tidings, two-game lead over Fort Hagen and Cambridge, three-game lead over Lexington, and four-game lead over Concord. All teams are .500 or above, meaning all six teams mentioned are in playoff contention and have the potential to work their way into the #2 seed. The Killers, as mentioned, are in the rear and likely to get the #1 overall pick in the 2316 Draft. The 75ers are in 1st and may stay there. However, hitting will need to surge for both that to happen and for Bunker Hill to be an actual title contender. On offense, the 75ers are 10th in runs scored (349) with their best category being 3rd in home runs (75). CF Esau Babz (.312/17/51/18 SB) is looking like the 17th overall pick from 2311 before Spectacle Island began to give up on him in 2315 and traded him to the 75ers. The only players topping Babz from the team Triple Crown is star SS Aaron Squire (.290/13/54) who leads the team in RBI. On the mound, Bunker Hill is much better, 2nd in the NCA in runs allowed (316) with the top Starters ERA (2.85). Ace Jalep Temper (11-3, 2.07) and Pokey Chatman (6-4, 2.44) have been excellent. In the bullpen, it could be better. CL Cleveland Heep (11 SV, 3.00) has been OK. Minutemen League Despite going 3-7 in their last 10, the Atom Cats are atop the Minutemen League as we approach the All-Star Break in two weeks. Three teams are all .500 and two games back: Goodneighbor, Spectacle Island, and Quincy. One of those three teams would represent the 6th seed if the playoffs started today. University Point is fading away, while Jamaica Plain and Southie are pretty much already out of the running. If the Hancocks can find a bit more success, they may find themselves as the 2316 ML titans. Goodneighbor is a talented team, but their most likely landing spot is somewhere around the 6th seed in the playoffs. They are 9th in runs scored (329) and 6th in runs allowed (348), so they are actually doing well to be at .500 at this point in the season. LF Sebastian Lort (.326/1/28/29 SB) is the only player hitting over .300. RF Squall Gunblade (.220/10/48) leads the team in homers and RBI. Ace Jared Porch (8-10, 3.50) has been up and down, though his ERA needs to drop. Harley Buechel (7-6, 3.29) and Sticky Hill (5-5, 3.39) are holding up. CL Kell George (16 SV, 1.67) leads the bullpen. Railroad League With a seven-game winning streak, Vault 81 is again eight up on 2nd-place Diamond City, pushing their RL Magic # to 35. Glowing Sea is just a game back of the Swatters, with Oberland the other team above .500. Egret, Roxbury, and FHE are all below .500 and probably will be out of the running soon if not already there. For Diamond City, being great seems to be stopped only by the Dwellers. The Swatters have the CBO's third-best record behind Vault 81 and the Grognaks. Statistically, DC is a contender. The Swatters are 3rd in runs scored (362) and 2nd in runs allowed (301). 2B Alex Bragman (.291/15/61/16 SB) is the star. 1B IC Reader (.299/7/38) is the team leader in average for the 9th-ranked average (.253) in the SCA. On the mound, 2315 Vim! Pitcher Award winner Macho Lopez (11-4, 2.42) is having a great season. Heaven Fontenot (9-7, 2.78) is also having a great season but gets poor run support. Beachboy Nut (10-10, 3.29) is still good but no longer great at 38. While he is not the closer, 37-year-old RP Raul Esparza (2-0, 0.77) has been the bullpen leader. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 10 - What's in a number? In baseball, just about everything. The numbers that Nordhagen Beach's Justin Hazard put up last week were the envy of the league, as Hazard came away with North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He belted out 10 hits in 20 at-bats, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs last week as he posted his .500 batting average. This season, Hazard has posted a batting average of .252 with 68 hits in 270 at-bats, 8 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has also scored 31 runs, walked 34 times and compiled a .334 OBP. Will Hell demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Quincy second baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .526 average (10-for-19) with 4 home runs and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. To date, Hell has collected 95 hits for a .320 average. He has posted 19 home runs, scored 51 runs and driven in 55 runs. July 17 - The votes have been tallied and the winner of the North Charles Association Player of the Week has been named. It was awarded earlier today to Diamond Ball for his great week at the plate. The Fort Hagen third baseman took home the trophy by banging out 10 hits in 21 at-bats for a .476 batting average, driving in 5 runs and scoring 6 times. Currently Ball is batting .308 with 97 hits and 15 home runs. He has knocked in 48 runs and scored 51 times. This week Ken Debate, left fielder for the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, slashed, mashed and bashed his way to the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy. Debate put up a .423 average as he pounded out 11 hits, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and scored 4 runs. Debate has a .240 average and a .304 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 68 hits, 4 home runs and driven in 25 runs. CBO Noteworthy News July 6 - The Spectacle Island Specters released C Diss Tillery who had asked for an opportunity to play at the CBO level. On July 15, the T-51s signed him to fill in an injury role. He got his first start in the CBO since 2313 with the T-51s. July 8 - It was a banner day for Barker Cocoa, who collected his 2500th hit in the University Point 2-0 win over Diamond City. Cocoa went 3-for-4 in the game as both Deathclaws and Swatters fans cheered Cocoa when he reached base after his hit. "It feels great to get #2500," Cocoa said afterward, "especially since we won the game." In his all-time stats Cocoa is hitting .348 with 2500 hits, 649 home runs, 1881 runs scored and 1777 RBIs. July 10 - What would you do after you had just won your 150th game? Run around Vim! Park of Salem doing cartwheels, jumping for joy and waving to the crowd? Well, maybe you and I would do that, but not Trolley Dodge -- that's not his way. After he notched number 150, the 37-year-old Quincy hurler spoke to the press like he always has -- in a soft, quiet voice. He wasn't doing any cartwheels or even anything resembling a jump for joy. "Obviously it feels very good," Dodge commented. "To win this many games, you've got to have a lot of help." Dodge got his milestone victory by beating the Salem Witch Hats 3-2. He held them to 8 hits in 8.1 innings and rung up 4 strikeouts with 3 walks. After sharing his thoughts with the press, he went to the clubhouse. There he was greeted by the guys who had helped him get #150. His teammates drenched him and then gave him a rousing round of applause. That got to him -- for the first time today, Dodge's face broke into a big smile. In his lifetime numbers Dodge has a 150-152 won-lost record with a 4.34 ERA.

July 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 21 July 2316 BMU Regular Season Concludes; Parsons Asylum, Abington Favorites The 2316 season has come to a close and the playoffs will commence in a few days. The qualifying teams are gearing up for the so-called "second season" that determines the Boston Minor Union title. Soon there will be only two clubs left in the running, and they will be matched up in the Boston Minor Series. Then there will be only one -- the new league champions. The regular season has ended and anxiety is starting to rise around the clubhouses still harboring championship aspirations. The playoffs begin today, the final sprint to the finish line and the time when great players earn their fame, when average players get a shot at immortality, and when rookies look to make their name. Some dread it and some relish it, but everyone who dreams of playing in Boston Minor Union wants to have a once-in-a-lifetime shot at championship glory. The 2316 Association Championship kicks off today with these exciting matchups: Union Hope Lifegivers (SI) vs Parsons Asylum Greasers (Good) and Westing Estate Alphas (Con) vs Abington Patriots (Sou). Union Hope last won a BMU title in 2304. The Alphas won it last season. Parsons Asylum and Abington have never won the BGoston Minor Series, but both teams were in the 2315 playoffs. All four teams were in the playoffs in 2315 with Westing Estate defeating the Lifegivers, 3 games to 1. GBRL Regular Season Done: #1 Seeds Are Portland, Cumberland Close the book on the Greater Boston Rookie League regular season. For most of the ballclubs, it's all over except for the crying. Now attention turns to the playoffs. It will be the best against the best to determine the Rookie Series champion for 2316. And it all kicks off soon. The all-important second season is about to begin. From spring training to the last out of the regular season, it has been the goal of every GM, team, manager and player to reach the Greater Boston Rookie League playoffs. They all aspire to win baseball's Holy Grail, the Rookie Series title. Now, for the elite teams, the first steps of that journey begin in earnest with the League Championship starting today. The opening playoff series will pit these teams against one another: Beantown Brewers (Egr) vs Portland Pops (ST) and Stamford Cappies (Sal) vs Cumberland Convicts (Qui). Beantown won their only two Rookie Series in 2304 and 2305. The Pops, Cappies, and Convicts are making their first playoff appearance. All three joined the league in 2313.

August 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 August 2316 The August 1 Super Post CBO Top Performances Hitting - With a game score of 113, Nordhagen Beach's Justin Hazard set the July and season mark for top performance. On July 9 against Starlight, Hazard went 5 for 5 with two home runs, two runs, and seven RBI to lead the Party Boys to a 10-6 victory. His 9th-inning grand slam made up the scoring difference. Keen Sugiura was the previous season's leader with his 105 points on April 13. Pitching - Easy Town's Lonely Gale had the month's and season's high score with 95 points scored on July 6 in a 4-0 victory against Fort Hagen. Gale pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 10 in the victory for the Trons. CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - Diamond Ball, the Fort Hagen third baseman, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .417 batting average with 40 hits, 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 26 times. That kind of hitting earned him the North Charles Association Batter of the Month honors for July. Ball is hitting .324 this season with 18 home runs, 59 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has 116 hits in 358 at-bats. SCA Hitter - Deez Phantom battered South Charles Association pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Phantom told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 26 games, Phantom hit .371 with 4 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 17 runs. Phantom on the season is hitting .374 with 12 home runs. His stats include 62 RBIs and 50 runs scored. NCA Pitcher - Lexington starter Deedee Martinson claimed the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month Award today with his strong performance in July. The 37-year-old starter tossed 55 innings of solid baseball, putting up a 2.95 ERA, 25 strikeouts and a 6-1 record in 7 starts. In 24 starts this year, Martinson has fashioned a 17-5 record and a 2.87 ERA. SCA Pitcher - In July, when the name of Jafar Khassanov appeared on the Egret lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 7 times and chalked up 6 wins and 1 loss. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month. Khassanov shackled opposing batters on 48 base hits and a .274 batting average. He rang up 24 strikeouts in 48 innings of work, surrendered 19 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.44 ERA. This season, Khassanov has compiled a 10-11 mark, 3.84 ERA and made 25 starts. NCA Rookie - No doubt about it! Cambridge starter Bullets Barnes earned his North Charles Association Rookie of the Month award. He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in July. For the month the 21-year-old Barnes recorded a 3-1 won-lost mark with a 2.77 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 48.2 innings. This season, Barnes has fashioned a 11-7 mark and 2.76 ERA in 169.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .234 against him and he has logged 121 strikeouts. SCA Rookie - A newcomer to the league, Wunmore Tomorrow sewed up the South Charles Association Rookie of the Month Award today after posting stout numbers last month as a starter for Oberland. In July he had a fine 1-0 mark as he compiled a 1.80 ERA. Tomorrow also tossed 15 strikeouts in 15 innings. He has 40 relief appearances in 2316, worked 44 innings and struck out 43. Wunmore Tomorrow has posted 28 saves with a 2.25 ERA and a 1-3 record. NEBL Analysis There are only seven games remaining in the 2316 campaign, and all four divisions are relatively tight, though Providence leads the YL Connri by four games over the Bradberton Tycoons. In the PL Maine Division, the Danvers Sonics have a one-game lead over both the Lynn Fortune Finders and Clifton Vertibirds. In the PL Vershire Division, Greenfield has a one-game lead over Burlington and a two-game lead over both Graygarden and Abernathy. Five teams are still alive for the division crown. Finally, in the YL Mass Division, the Woburn Bobbleheads have a one-game lead over Sandwich with three other teams still alive. NEBL Players of the Month PL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to New England Baseball League, Duncan Donutz put up some good numbers in July and earned the PL Batter of the Month award. He was one of Clifton's offensive leaders with a .373 average in 28 games. He also racked up 7 home runs, 22 RBIs, and 18 runs scored. This season, Donutz has hit at a .331 clip with 37 RBIs, 11 home runs and 32 runs scored. YL Hitter - Sluggo Luge made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Yankee League this past month. The Brookline Bandoliers third baseman shined through the month of July and has won the Batter of the Month award. The 19-year-old hit .294 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Luge is currently hitting at a .289 pace with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. PL Pitcher - The Lynn Fortune Finders celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Ethan Lynch had been selected as July's Patriot League Pitcher of the Month. Lynch's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic. "Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Lynch said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs." Lynch tossed 50 innings last month, holding opponents to a .270 average while striking out 29 batters. In 7 starting assignments he came away with a 5-2 record, putting together an ERA of 3.60. Thus far this season, Lynch has posted a 12-6 record, started 21 games, struck out 89 batters in 142.1 innings and compiled a 3.73 ERA. YL Pitcher - Petie Pembroke hated to see July turn to August. And who could blame him? The 20-year-old hurler piled up 6 wins and no losses for the Robobrains last month and won the Yankee League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts. Pembroke stymied opposing batters on 34 base hits and a .207 batting average. He rang up 36 strikeouts in 46.2 innings of work, surrendered 10 walks and fashioned a sparkling 2.31 ERA. So far this season, Pembroke has a record of 8-6 with 113 strikeouts and 39 walks in 143 innings and a 3.08 ERA. MML Analysis Like the NEBL, the MML has seven games remaining per team in 2316. While no division has a winner yet, some teams are close. In the LL Boggs Division, the Covenant Refractors lead the Nashua Sams by five games. In the LL Murtagh Division, the Sanctuary Hills Zetans lead by five over the Revere Beach Shoremen. In the SL Williams Division, the Castle Strength have a four-game lead over the Hull Lead Bellies. Finally, in the SL Yastrzemski Division, the Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials have a two-game lead over the Bridgeport Gulchers. MML Players of the Month LL Hitter - Nashua Sams fans believe they've got a talented young star in Big Dipper Grzenkowicz. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in July, as he hit .442 with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored. The end result was the second baseman being named the Legends League Batter of the Month. For the year, Grzenkowicz has hit at a .349 clip with 49 RBIs, 15 home runs and 46 runs scored. SL Hitter - Mayoral Shelter's Weston DeGurlz wowed sportswriters in July with an award-winning performance. For his standout play he was voted the Stars League Batter of the Month. He rang up a .462 batting average with 16 home runs, 39 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He also had 16 walks and a .529 on-base percentage. DeGurlz currently has a .358 batting average with 120 hits, 31 homers, 83 RBIs, 62 runs scored and a .428 OBP. LL Pitcher - The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Legends League was Elijah Pierce of the Winchester Bashers. He really dominated league hitters, finishing July with a 5-0 won-lost mark and a 3.03 ERA. The Bashers ace made 5 starts and surrendered 29 hits in 35.2 innings. He struck out 28 and walked 10. This year, Pierce has posted a 5-5 mark in 10 starts and has a 5.43 ERA. SL Pitcher - Toadie Yamamoto is the latest Stars League Pitcher of the Month trophy winner. The Pawtucket starter sparkled on the diamond time and again last month and finished July with an outstanding 5-1 record. In 6 starts he tossed 49 innings, posted 39 strikeouts, and sported a 2.02 ERA. In 14 starts this season, Yamamoto has recorded a 9-4 record and a 3.38 ERA. BMU and GBRL Both the BMU and GBRL is in their fifth and final game in the Boston Minor Series and Rookie Series, respectively. Tomorrow, we will update those games and the CBO All-Star game.

Season Pass Association
---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL and APL by Evan Guy 1 August 2316 Victory, Quartz Lead as Season Nears End With just 14 games remaining on the season, the Victory Cave Crickets and Quartz Star Force each have six-game leads and a Magic # of 9. The Cave Crickets last won their division in 2314, leading to their fifth Nuka Series title in five tries (2302, 2304, 2309, 2310, and 2314). The Star Force last appeared in the Nuka Series in 2303. They won their only championship in their previous appearance, the NWL's debut season of 2299. The Nuka World League has given Roz McBerger the Batter of the Month Award. In July, the Quartz first baseman starred with a .386 batting average, 9 home runs and 23 RBIs. McBerger also had 12 walks, posted a .461 on-base percentage and scored 19 times. Currently McBerger has 15 home runs and a .377 batting average. A 5-0 record with a 2.60 ERA is a good month for most any pitcher. The Nuka World League thought it was worthy of an award and named Kory DiLeva, starter for the Grape Painted Ghouls, July's Pitcher of the Month. He also held the opposition to a .255 average while posting 31 strikeouts in 52 innings. For the season, DiLeva has compiled a 10-5 record with a 3.46 ERA. Last month was a very good one for Jackie Jones of Quantum. So good that he has been picked as the Rookie of the Month in the Nuka World League. Jones throttled league hitters the entire month, rounding out July with an impressive 3-0 mark and 0.92 ERA in 4 starts with 16 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. This year, Jones has compiled a 3-0 mark with a 2.01 ERA. In the Amusement Park League, the Red Rocket Radrats and Junkyard Space Cadets are tied at 28-18 in the North Division. In the South Division, the Dunmore Ferris Wheels have a four-game lead over the Grandchester Flying Ants and a Magic # of 11. For a rookie just breaking in, Penguin Blackwell certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the APL Batter of the Month award for July. The 24-year-old center fielder for the Galactic Zone G-Force hit .397 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Hitting .325 to date, Blackwell has 5 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has played in 45 games. Following one of the brightest stretches in his career, the Amusement Park League awarded Galactic Zone reliever Archie Hicox July's Pitcher of the Month trophy. He was mesmerizing as he held opponents to a .077 batting average and put together a 3-0 mark, 3 saves, 5 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA during his 8 innings of work. To this point in the year Hicox has put up a 5-0 won-lost mark, made 13 relief appearances and rung up 4 saves. He has a 0.00 ERA and has allowed 6 hits over his 12.1 innings of work, struck out 7 batters and walked 4. ---------------------------------------------------------- Vim! View News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates by Jimmy Gresham 1 August 2316 Dalton Farm Near Division Title, Harbor Division Still Up for Grabs The Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers hhave a 10-game Fog Division lead, leading both the National Park Gulpers and Echo Lake Harbormen by 10 games with 14 to play. Their Magic # is 5. In the Harbor Division, both the Grand Hotel Atoms and Acadia Acadians are tied at 39-37 with Far Harbor just three back at 36-40. Cranberry Island, predicted to win the Harbor Division, is in 4th place and possesses the Vim! League's worst record at 33-43. Tick Garrett has a lot going for him. The Dalton Farm first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Vim! League has just picked him as its top hitter for July. In 26 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .485 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and 33 runs scored. This year, Garrett is batting .459 with 50 hits, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, 17 walks, .535 OBP and has scored 34 runs. Veteran Bout Nielsen put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Grand Hotel Atoms, earning himself the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month award. Nielsen racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.90 ERA over 47.1 innings and striking out 28. On the season, Nielsen has compiled a 7-3 mark with a 3.00 ERA in 11 starts. In pitching 81 innings he has 45 strikeouts and 26 walks while limiting the opposition to a .252 batting average. When it came to hitting the baseball, Tick Garrett had few peers in the Vim! League last month. The gifted first baseman for Dalton Farm tagged opposing pitchers for a .485 average and was voted the Rookie of the Month for July. Included in his stats were 50 hits, 13 homers, 33 runs scored and 42 RBIs. Thus far this season, Garrett has hit .459 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and scored 34 times. In the Mount Desert Island League, division races are still tight enough to keep Magic #s in the double digits with 14 to play. In the Small Bertha Division, the Rock Point Barnacles lead the Cliff's Edge Actors by four games. In the Old Longfellow Division, the MS Azalea Shipwrecks lead the Rayburn Point Patcheyes by two games. The Shipwrecks are seeking their fourth-straight division title. It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 24 Peekaboo Leach has a lot of baseball ahead of him. But for now the young Haddock Cove Engineers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month. His breakout month featured a .352 average with 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. A look at his current stats shows Leach with a .352 average, 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has played in 15 games. Gaius Mohlam of the Cliff's Edge Actors is in the spotlight today. The bullpen ace was named the #1 pitcher in the Mount Desert Island League for July. He compiled a 1-0 record and an ERA of 0.71 in 12.2 innings with 13 strikeouts. Mohlam nailed down 7 saves in 7 save opportunities. So far this year, Mohlam has 9 saves in 22 relief appearances with a 3-1 mark and 0.70 ERA.

This year, the Parsons Asylum Greasers were shedding tears of joy and the Westing Estate Alphas those of sorrow. The Greasers topped the Alphas today 6-1 at Parsons State Asylum Grounds and locked up their 1st Boston Minor Union Boston Minor Series championship, winning the series 3-2. "To come this far and leave empty-handed is not easy," said Westing Estate manager Frank Hermit. The Greasers finished the regular season in the Commonwealth Association Dark Hollow Pond Division with a 60-28 record, ending up in first place in the division standings. GBRL Playoffs The Beantown faithful were cheering in the streets, and Stamford fans wiping away the tears, after the Brewers won the Rookie Series at Lakers Field today. The Brewers clinched it by knocking off the Cappies 8-6 to take their 3rd Greater Boston Rookie League crown. Beantown took the series 3-2. "This club never gave up all year long," Beantown manager Raul Cartagena told the press. "They believed they could win the title and they did." On the way to the Rookie Series title, Beantown compiled a 48-40 won-loss record and finished first in the North League Northwest Division. "We just didn't play well enough to win," Cappies manager Bill Chaney said. "We just didn't make the big plays like they did."

August 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 7 August 2316 CBO Analysis With the All-Star Break now complete, teams are entering their final month of the regular season. With just 26 games remaining for most teams, we will feature our Contenders vs Pretenders vs Dreamers episode of the BNN reports. At 69-35 and a 13-1 string in their last 14 games, the Malden Grognaks have been the surprise team of 2316 and the CBO's #1. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Malden Grognaks (129.3, o) 2) Atom Cats (107.8, ++) 3) Oberland T-51s (106.4, ++) 4) Quincy Gunners (106.2, ++) 5) Vault 81 Dwellers (102.5, --) 6) Diamond City Swatters (101.9, --) 7) Bunker Hill 75ers (99.8, --) 8) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (98.6, -) 9) Cambridge Coursers (97.8, --) 10) Concord Radstags (94.4, -) 11) Lexington Synths (94.4, -) 12) The Slog Ghouls (94.4, ++) 13) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (93.6, --) 14) FHE Yao Guai (93.4, ++) 15) Egret Ninjas (91.0, --) 16) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (90.4, -) 17) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (89.9, +) 18) Easy Town Assaultrons (87.2, -) 19) Spectacle Island Reapers (86.0, -) 20) Goodneighbor Hancocks (85.6, -) 21) Salem Witch Hats (79.6, ++) 22) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (77.4, -) 23) Nahant Celtics (74.6, +) 24) County Crossing Bloodbugs (71.9, o) 25) University Point Deathclaws (70.6, --) 26) Roxbury Rad Sox (69.9, --) 27) Starlight Killers (64.2, o) 28) Southie Brews (62.3, o) If the playoffs began today, these would be the tiers as far as in, just missed, and missed by a lot, indicated by line separations: NCA 1. Malden 2. Cambridge (Season series tied with Bunker Hill 2-2, leads tiebreaker) 3. Nordhagen Beach 4. Bunker Hill 5. Lexington (leads season series over Concord and Fort Hagen 8-7, leads season series over The Slog 2-0) 6t. Concord (leads series over Fort Hagen in three-way tie 8-8, season series with The Slog tied 2-2) 6t. Slog -------------------- 8. Fort Hagen 9. Sunshine Tidings 10. Easy Town -------------------- 11t. Nahant (Season series tied with Salem 4-4) 11t. Salem 13. County Crossing 14. Starlight SCA 1. Vault 81 2. Atom 3. Diamond City 4. Oberland 5. Glowing Sea 6. Quincy --------------------- 7. Spectacle Island (won season series over Egret 4-0) 8. Egret 9. Goodneighbor -------------------- 10t. Jamaica Plain (Season series tied with FHE 1-1) 10t. FHE 12. University Point 13. Roxbury 14. Southie Brotherhood League As mentioned, the Grognaks are the CBO's #1 team and will be our first feature of championship contenders in 2316. Malden is one of only three teams (Vault 81 and Diamond City) with 60+ wins and the only team to have clinched a winning record in 2316. With a Magic # of 15, Malden could clinch by the next update on August 21. The other contender in the league is Nordhagen Beach, currently ranked as the third seed in the NCA playoffs. While The Slog is in the playoff running, they are pretenders at this point. The Ghouls will have to battle with the strong Institute League to earn the 5th or 6th seed in the playoffs, but there is a lot of jumbled records with seven teams within five games of the wildcard slots. At 51-53, Easy Town is still in pretender mode. The Assaultrons could make the playoffs, but they have to start living up to that preseason prediction to be where Malden is. At just three games back of the wildcard spot, the Trons could get in, but we doubt they win it all. All the rest of the BL are dreamers and should be preparing for the draft. In current order of 5th-7th is Nahant, Salem, and County Crossing. The Bloodbugs would be picking 3rd overall based on losing their season series to Roxbury. The Witch Hats would pick 5th due to losing their season series to University Point. The Celtics would pick 7th due to defeating the Deathclaws in the season series. Institute League Another expansion team surprise is the rise of the Cambridge Coursers in 2316. With their highest finsh being 5th (2314 and 2315), the Coursers were not expected to be in competition for the #2 seed in the NCA. They were expected to tie for 3rd in the IL but still miss the playoffs, pairing them with the Boys and 75ers as teams expected to miss the playoffs but instead are in it to win it. Bunker Hill is tied with the Coursers and was also picked in the tied for 3rd slot below .500. Bunker Hill has enjoyed success, making the playoffs 6 of the past 8 seasons and winning the Sole Survivor Series in 2308. All of Lexington, Concord, and Fort Hagen are tied for 3rd with Sunshine Tidings just 1.5 games back, making them all on the line of contenders and pretenders at once. The Synths were the 2315 IL and NCA champions, though they fell to Vault 81 in the Sole Survivor Series. The Silver Shroud were the preseason pick to win the IL. With all four teams listed here above .500, they are very much all in the playoff running and we think two of these teams will be in the playoffs. Starlight is by itself as the dreamer of the IL. While the Killers have overcome a devastating start where they appeared to be on track to be the worst team in CBO history, they have now recovered enough to hold a .340 winning percentage. It's still the CBO's worst, but only a half-game back of Southie for the #1 overall pick in the 2316 Draft. Minutemen League Atom and Quincy hgave been hot as of late, exiting the All-Star Break each on a five-game winning streak and 8-2 in their last 10. That puts both teams firmly in contender status since one will likely get the #2 seed. The Cats are seeking their fourth-straight playoff appearance. In 2313, they first Minutemen League title, the Cats also won the Sole Survivor Series. For the Gunners, who have been in talks of being sold, they are looking to make it three-straight playoff appearances with their last ML title coming in 2314. Quincy lost the Sole Survivor Series to The Slog that season, but both teams' recent success shows that the #2 seed would be valuable. Spectacle Island and Goodneighbor are in pretender status. Either could make the playoffs still, with the Reapers three back of the wildcard spot and the Hancocks five back. We doubt either will. Spectacle Island lost their star Donovan Mackey (.316/11/51) just before the All-Star Break and will likely fade away down the stretch. Goodneighbor is young and just does not quite have what it would take (likely needing to go around 20-6 to finish the season). Jamaica Plain, University Point, and Southie are all dreamers at this point and can plan for the draft. As mentioned, the Brews are in the #2 draft slot and the Claws are in the #6 spot. The Deathclaws spent a good portion of April and May in 1st place, but have been 32-52 since May. With the super man that is Barker Cocoa (.253/13/57) slowing down, the Claws' offense is almost dead. It must be mentioned, though, that Cocoa did win a recent Player of the Week honor, his 36th time winning in his career. The Red Rockets were supposed to be contenders in 2316, but a poor 0-13 start doomed them. If they had gone around 7-6 during that stretch instead, the Rockets would be in competition with the Cats and Gunners for the ML title. Would have, could have, should have. The Rockets would pick 9th if the draft were held today. Railroad League At 2-8 in their last 10 and a four-game losing streak following the All-Star Break, the Dwellers are starting to look somewhat vulnerable though still way ahead of the pack. With a five-game lead over Diamond City, Vault 81 is likely to take the RL crown for the fourth-straight season. The defending champions should also still be the absolute favorites to win the championship again in 2316. The Swatters are also legitimate contenders, holding the CBO's third-best record heading into the final month. Diamond City is statistically good all around, including currently 3rd in runs scored (424) and 2nd in runs allowed (350), a difference of 0.71 runs per game. The highest starter ERA is 2.87, an amazing year for the entire staff. Oberland and Glowng Sea can both be considered pretenders right now as the 4th and 5th seeded teams. Both have a ton of talent but cannot hang with either of the Dwellers or Swatters in the gamut of playoff talent. The T-51s had been on an eight-season streak of playoff appearances before missing last season. The Radscorpions are seeking their second-straight appearance and third in four seasons. This is only their seventh season of existence, showing that the team was built to win enough for a quick playoff exit each season. While they are .500 at the moment, we have Egret as dreamers. The Ninjas are in the lower half of the SCA statistically and the numbers max out at about 60 wins on the season. FHE and Roxbury are both in contention for one of the top draft picks. The Rad Sox would pick 4th overall and the Yao Guai would pick 8th. CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week July 24 - Diamond Ball of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud had an enormous week at the plate and today was voted the Player of the Week by the North Charles Association. For the week Ball batted .500 (10-for-20) with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs. Thus far in 2316, Ball is hitting .319 with 18 home runs, 56 RBIs, 61 runs scored and has compiled a .404 OBP. Aaron Wright of the Vault 81 Dwellers was locked in all week as he bullied the pitchers he faced. Wright put up some great numbers and hauled in the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy. He hit .583 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs. The 24-year-old center fielder also scored 5 runs and for the week went 14-for-24. Currently Wright has 10 home runs and a .316 batting average. July 31 - This week's North Charles Association Player of the Week is Malificent Shaw of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. He ambushed NCA pitching for 11 hits in 21 at-bats, no home runs and 8 RBIs, while hitting .524 and scoring 2 runs. This year, Shaw has hit at a .270 clip with 80 hits, 4 home runs, 46 RBIs and 29 runs scored. Barker Cocoa had a week for the ages as he romped to the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The happy-go-lucky 37-year-old still plays ball like a kid, mashing and slashing as he goes. The University Point Deathclaws first baseman hit .409 last week as he chalked up 9 hits in 22 at-bats, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 7 runs scored. This year, Cocoa is batting .254 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs. In 100 games he has scored 43 times. August 7 - The North Charles Association made it official today: Seemly Sam Tucker is the Player of the Week. He really glistened on the diamond this week with a .588 average to take home the honor. The Salem second baseman went 10-for-17, drove in 3 runs, scored 4 times and hit 1 home run. This season, Tucker is batting .271 with 22 RBIs, 25 runs scored and 5 home runs. Nobody in the South Charles Association had a better week than McMack Bingham... Noooo-body! That's why he was voted the Player of the Week. During the week the Atom first baseman compiled a .500 batting average (9-for-18) with 1 home run, 6 runs batted in and scored 1 run. Bingham is hitting .312 this year with 12 home runs, 58 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 99 hits in 317 at-bats, 27 walks and a .365 on-base percentage. Bingham has played in 87 games. CBO Noteworthy News July 23 - Spectacle Island is abuzz in the wake of a masterful no-hitter by Jason Costcaps. The 32-year-old hurler was dominating against the Quincy Gunners, leading the Reapers to a 5-0 win at The Stone House. "I could tell early on that it was going to be a long day for us," Quincy manager Scrappy Barios said afterward. "He made us look real bad. He was that good. And still going strong at the end of the game." Costcaps had 3 strikeouts and gave up 3 walks en route to the no-hitter. "Yeah, this was a special day for me," Costcaps said. "I had my good stuff and good movement. Good location, too. Even when I made a mistake, I got away with it today." This season, Costcaps has 4 wins and 6 losses and a 2.84 ERA. July 27 - In a hastily called press conference, Salem announced today a trade with Goodneighbor that will send 31-year old 1B Brian DeLong to the Hancocks in exchange for 21-year old minor league 1B Derrick Murderbot, 20-year old minor league 1B Chimo Gaspar, and 24-year old minor league 2B Ami Marl. All players are expected to be in their respective new cities in time for today's games. Posting a .136 batting average to date, DeLong has no home runs and 1 RBIs. July 31 - The 2316 Home Run Challenge might've been an exhibition. But that didn't lessen the intensity for the contestants. Jimmie Dimmick, the Southie Brews right fielder, won it all, after out-bashing Bubbler Mayhem in the final round by a score of 7-6. "We're competitors, first and foremost," said Dimmick. "We each were serious about winning this thing." CBO Draft Pool For the entrants in this year's rookie draft, released today by the league, the possibilities are endless. Some will immediately seize their opportunity to play in the bigs with a venom, doggedly working their way up through the system to arrive on the pro circuit in three to five years, if they are lucky. Others will struggle, have their hopes dashed, reborn and dashed again, all the while not fully giving up on the dream. Still others will take each day as it comes, while not losing sight of the end-game. They will figure it out, quietly work their way into the professional ranks and have solid, if not spectacular, careers in Commonwealth Baseball Organization. At any rate, teams now can scout the draft pool for the next 30 days. The Transactions page also gets a new section dedicated to the pool and will be available for 90 days prior to draft day. The early favorites to be high picks are the following: 1. Cool Papa Cornwell, 20 year-old 2B out of college (Mass Maritime). 2. Ditcher Doyle Cobbler, 20 year-old LF out of college (New Haven). 3. Door Doright, 20 year-old 1B out of college (Nahant Marine Institute). 4. Crate Lou Dustdown, 21 year-old 1B out of college (Post). 5. Plucky Epperson, 20 year-old 1B out of college (Dartmouth). 6. Johnboy Zikmund, 20 year-old 2B out of college (Brown). 7. Malik Goodneighbor, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school (Needham). 8. Phil Brodie, 20 year-old 2B out of college (Glowing Sea College). 9. McGrath Maguire, 20 year-old LF out of college (Coastal). 10. Aram Sham, 21 year-old 1B out of college (Stonehill College). CBO Stats Leaders

Season Pass Association
---------------------------------------------------------- Nuka News Update Reporting on the NWL and APL by Evan Guy 17 August 2315 Victory, Quartz Cruise to Division Titles Nuka World League just concluded the regular season -- and the playoffs -- the real season -- are slated to begin soon. The playoffs separate the men from the boys -- there are no weak sisters in the playoffs. Only the best clubs qualify. You have to play your best to survive. And when it's all over, you can be proud to be proclaimed the Nuka Series winner. The quest for the Nuka World League Nuka Series championship gets underway today. The regular season is now over and the so-called "second season" begins. For fan and player alike this is the sweetest part of the season -- the Nuka Series. The baseball experts have made their predictions, but teams will do it or die on the diamond. The best team doesn't always win -- sometimes it's the lucky team that is fated to win the crown -- sometimes it's the team that gets hot late in the season that wins -- and sometimes talent wins out and takes the glory. The winner will be one of these teams: Victory Cave Crickets vs Quartz Star Force. Victory is making its sixth appearance in the Nuka Series. The Cave Crickets won every time they were there before: 2302, 2304, 2309, 2310, and 2314. For the Star Force, this is their third Nuka Series appearance and first since 2303. The Force won the Nuka Series in the league's debut season, 2299. ---------------------------------------------------------- Vim! View News of the Vim! League and Its Affiliates by Jimmy Gresham 17 August 2316 Dalton Farm, Acadia Return to Vim! Series Another season has come to pass and "to the winners go the spoils" -- the lucky ones will be headed for the playoffs in a few days and a chance to win the Vim! League title in the Vim! Series. The envious losers, however, will suffer a long and somber offseason, wondering where it all went wrong and trying to figure out how to do it right. With a championship to be decided, the Vim! League is filled with excitement. There's nothing like the thrill of the playoffs. There will be some career-defining moments played out in the coming days. There will be some heroes, some great plays, some blunders and some failures, but it will be a great time for fans. Playoff baseball is here and it gets underway today. The Vim! Series starts today with this slate of games: Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers vs Acadia Acadians. For the Fog Crawlers, this will be their eighth and second-straight Vim! Series appearance. The Crawlers won the title four consecutive seasons from 2303-2306. Acadia is now in its third Vim! Series in the past three seasons and third overall. The Acadians won the title in 2314.

August 2316
A rare pitcher Player of the Week in the CBO. Check out who.
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 21 August 2316 CBO Analysis There are only 13 games remaining per team in the CBO in the 2316 season. We will feature the pennant race in the last two weeks, breaking down who may be in and where teams will probably finish. Two teams are in, with Malden clinching the Brotherhood League and down to a Magic # of 1 to clinch the #1 seed in the NCA playoffs. In the SCA, Vault 81 has clinched at least a wildcard spot and have a Magic # of 7 to claim the Railroad League crown and #1 seed. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Malden Grognaks (121.4, o) 2) Vault 81 Dwellers (121.3, ++) 3) Oberland T-51s (105.5, -) 4) Easy Town Assaultrons (103.4, o) 5) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (103.1, -) 6) Bunker Hill 75ers (101.5, ++) 7) Quincy Gunners (100.8, -) 8) Diamond City Swatters (100.5, o) 9) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (99.8, ++) 10) Atom Cats (97.8, --) 11) Cambridge Coursers (92.4, -) 12) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (92.4, +) 13) The Slog Ghouls (89.7, ++) 14) Lexington Synths (87.7, o) 15) Egret Ninjas (87.7, +) 16) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (87.6, ++) 17) Concord Radstags (86.3, --) 18) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (85.7, --) 19) Goodneighbor Hancocks (85.2, --) 20) Spectacle Island Reapers (85.2, ++) 21) Nahant Celtics (85.2, -) 22) FHE Yao Guai (81.2, --) 23) University Point Deathclaws (80.5, -) 24) County Crossing Bloodbugs (74.5, -) 25) Roxbury Rad Sox (73.9, +) 26) Starlight Killers (69.6, +) 27) Salem Witch Hats (59.8, -) 28) Southie Brews (59.0, o) Brotherhood League As mentioned, the Grognaks will be the NCA's #1 seed, so there is no need to break down any pennant race in the BL other than the wildcard race. Right now, three BL teams are in competition for one or more of the wildcard slots. If the playoffs were to start today, Nordhagen Beach would be the #3 seed and Easy Town would be the #4 seed., both winning tiebreakers over Cambridge. The Slog, which is the other team with a wildcard shot, is currently tied for #8, two games back of the final wildcard slot. Nahant, County Crossing, and Salem are still alive but have no shot at a playoff spot. The biggest battle in the BL is for 2nd place and perhaps the top wildcard spot. Looking at the remaining schedules of both the Party Boys and Assaultrons, we have thoughts. The Boys travel to Quincy for three, host The Slog and Nahant in consecutive series, visit the Ghouls for two, and finish versus the Trons in a two-game set. For Easy Town, they are at Atom for three, host Malden, visit The Slog, travel to the Grognaks, and then end with the Boys. In our look, the Assaultrons' schedule is brutal with all 13 games remaining versus teams with winning records. Our final expectation: Nordhagen Beach 7-6, Easy Town 5-8. We will break down the Institute League, too, and then summarize final expectations in the NCA. The Ghouls will need to get hot for a shot, but they do get to face both the Boys and Trons to end the season, giving them a chance to gain ground. The Slog visits Spectacle Island and then the Party Boys, hosts Easy Town, hosts Nordhagen Beach, and finishes with their homestand against Sunshine Tidings. Final 13 games expected record: 7-6. Institute League The IL remains the most competitive league with six teams all within five games of 1st place. Bunker Hill has a slight hold on the lead right now, up two on Cambridge. Fort Hagen is three back, Concord is four back, and Sunshine Tidings and Lexington are five back with all teams at least a game over .500 and within two games of a wildcard spot. Starlight is officially eliminated from the playoffs but would have the #2 draft pick at this point. Since we have six teams alive, we will list their remaining schedule along with our picks for the final 13 games results. We will then break down the results in the "NCA Outlook" section below. Bunker Hill: at Vault 81 (3), vs Fort Hagen (3), at Diamond City (3), at Fort Hagen (2), vs Starlight (2). Final prediction: 6-7 Cambridge: at Diamond City (3), vs Concord (3), at Sunshine Tidings (3), at Concord (2), at Lexington (2). Final prediction: 5-8 Fort Hagen: at FHE (3), at Bunker Hill (3), vs Lexington (3), vs Bunker Hill (2), at Concord (2). Final prediction: 8-5 Concord: at Egret (3), at Cambridge (3), at Starlight (3), vs Cambridge (2), vs Fort Hagen (2). Final prediction: 8-5 Sunshine Tidings: at Roxbury (3), vs Lexington (3), vs Cambridge (3), at Lexington (2), at The Slog (2). Final prediction: 7-6 Lexington: at Glowing Sea (3), at Sunshine Tidings (3), at Fort Hagen (3), vs Sunshine Tidings (2), vs Cambridge (2). Final prediction: 6-7 NCA Outlook Based on our current predictions, teams would be seeded in the top 10 seeds this way: 1. Malden 2. Bunker Hill (70-60) 3. Fort Hagen (69-61) 4. Nordhagen Beach (69-61) 5. Concord (68-62) 6. Easy Town (67-63) ---------------------------- 7. Cambridge (67-63) 8. Sunshine Tidings (66-64) 9. The Slog (66-64) 10. Lexington (65-65) Based on these results, the 75ers would barely hold on to the IL lead to win the league title and earn the #2 seed. Fort Hagen gets the #3 seed over the Boys with a 3-1 season series win. Easy Town wins tiebreakers over Cambridge in this scenario, so the prediction is that the Trons would win the tiebreaker game. Also, based on this scenario, we would pick the Silver Shroud to represent the NCA in the Sole Survivor Series just because Malden has been good but possesses no playoff experience. Minutemen League Realistically, only Quincy and Atom, tied for 1st, are still alive in the playoff hunt. None of Goodneighbor, Spectacle Island, Jamaica Plain, or University Point are officially eliminated, but from 7-10 games back, they are. Southie is eliminated and leads for the #1 overall draft pick. Not only are the Gunners and Cats tied for 1st place but in a battle for what looks like either the #2 or #6 seed. Of course, if both get hot down the stretch, that second number could rise as high as #3. Quincy's remaining schedule in the 3-3-3-2-2 format are vs Nordhagen Beach, at Atom, at Southie, vs the Cats, and at Jamaica Plain. For the Cats, they host Easy Town and the Gunners, host County Crossing, visit Quincy, and finish against the Reapers. Final predictions: Quincy 8-5, Atom 9-4. Expected ML winner: Atom. Railroad League While the Dwellers look well on their way to clinching the #1 overall seed, Oberland, Diamond City, and Glowing Sea are all in a struggle to clinch the #3 seed. However, all look to be in good shape for making the playoffs with Magic #s of 5 or 6. That's because the rest of the Railroad League is pretty much out of the playoff hunt: in order, Egret, FHE, and Roxbury. The Rad Sox currently hold the #4 slot in the draft. Breaking down the remaining schedules of the the T-51s, Swatters, and Radscorpions with predicted results looks like this: Oberland - vs Starlight, vs Vault 81, vs Glowing Sea, at Vault 81, vs Egret. Predicted finish: 7-6 Diamond City - vs Cambridge, vs Glowing Sea, vs Bunker Hill, at Glowing Sea, vs Roxbury. Predicted finish: 8-5 Glowing Sea - vs Lexington, at Diamond City, at Oberland, vs Diamond City, at FHE. Predicted finish: 7-6 SCA Outlook The SCA's playoff outlook is much simpler than the NCA since we are pretty sure the six currently-slotted teams will be the final six teams unless something quite bizarre, like Goodneighbor going 13-0, happens. In that case, the Hancocks would still need another team to go at best 5-8. Based on our records predictions, these would be the order of those final six teams. 1. Vault 81 2. Atom (72-58) 3. Diamond City (74-56) 4. Oberland (73-57) 5. Glowing Sea (72-58) 6. Quincy (71-59) CBO Standings and Pennant Chase CBO Players of the Week August 14 - Scooter Yaghmour strolled to the mound 2 times last week and walked off with 2 wins, a performance that garnered him the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The Cambridge hurler had an extraordinary week with a 2-0 record and an impressive 0.53 ERA. This season, Yaghmour has worked 205 innings with 162 strikeouts en route to a 18-3 record and a 2.24 ERA. A hot-hitting week got Hickory Dockery the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers. The Atom center fielder slammed them for a .474 average, 9 hits in 19 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and scored 6 runs. In the postgame press conference, Dockery shared his hitting philosophy with the BNN scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them... nothin' more than that." This season, Dockery is batting .289 with 12 home runs. He has scored 40 runs and driven in 42. August 21 - The top batter in the North Charles Association last week was Malificent Shaw, who batted .565 and towered above everybody with a 6-game hitting barrage. During the week Shaw banged out a .565 batting average (13-for-23), 1 home run, 5 RBI and scored 6 runs. Today the Fort Hagen catcher received the NCA Player of the Week Award. This season, Shaw is hitting .295 with 5 home runs. Vault 81's Pockets Wrench would not be denied the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 12 hits in 23 at-bats and a .522 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor. "You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Wrench, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week." He also tallied no home runs, 4 RBIs, and scored 5 runs. Currently Wrench is batting .333 with 14 home runs and 65 RBIs. CBO Noteworthy News August 15 - The Murkwater Zoophilists (Easy Town) of the GBRL will relocate to Narragansett for the 2317 season. Other minor league moves will be announced later. The Murkwater Construction Site settlement has been spending years to build up land usage, but some recent flooding is causing housing issues at the water-producing settlement. Since Murwater Elevated Field is a land-locked area, the settlement has decided housing is more important than baseball. We at BNN disagree, but the Murkwater settlement will not have a team, at least not in 2317. August 18 - In another minor league announcement, the Bunker Hill 75ers and University Point Deathclaws have made a trade of BMU affiliates. The Charles View Cannibals will move from a Bunker Hill to University Point affiliate, while the Rockland Snipers will now be under the 75ers. August 19 - Extra room in the dugout and bullpen? From today until the playoffs, the Commonwealth Baseball Organization roster limit grows to 40, to take advantage of team depth and encourage the development of young players. ***August 19 (Special Story) - The CBO was abuzz today with the news that 1B Barker Cocoa, University Point's legendary player, was asked to be benched after yesterday's game where he went 0 for 4 with a strikeout in a 5-1 loss to Starlight. There is no word when Cocoa will return, though hitting coach Cream Melton said it would be "for a few days." Speculation is that Cocoa may be done, though there have been no formal announcements. The CBO's all-time leading player, the "GOAT" of what we have read from 21st Century literature, is currently batting .264 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI in 115 games. His rookie season of 2298 is the only season Cocoa hit below .300 (.277). For his career, Cocoa has batted .347/656/1800. He is the all-time leader in many offensive categories. August 20 - The Malden Grognaks are heading to the playoffs as champions of the North Charles Association Brotherhood League. "It wasn't as close a race as we expected in the end, but that's a credit to the guys in this room who played their hearts out all season," said third baseman Jacob Tarberry. The team's record currently sits at 77-39 and the division crown is their 1st in franchise history. The team will be looking to win a 1st Commonwealth Baseball Organization championship. BMU Awards CA Hitter - The future looks extremely bright for Baral Sendu. At the age of 23, many players are still trying to find their way in Boston Minor Union. Sendu has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the Commonwealth Association Medford Memorial Hitter Award. "I didn't expect to hit .316 this year, that's for sure," the left fielder said. The Union Hope Lifegivers star also put up a .427 on-base percentage this year, with 61 hits, 16 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He received 22 first place votes out of a possible 28. Bazyli Szewczyk of the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Dave Coteaux of the Parsons Asylum Greasers finished third with 1 first place vote. The reliever was today named the CA Slocum's Joe Reliever Award winner for 2316. He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 11 saves in 25 relief appearances and 34 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. He had a record of 1-0 to go with his 0.99 ERA. But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Hingham AntAgonizers reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2316 Massachusetts Association Slocum's Joe Reliever Award. "I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Salem, Massachusetts native said. For the season, Molerat had 19 saves in 30 relief appearances, which totaled 28.2. He fanned 37 betters, while walking 7 and put up a record of 1-1 to go with his 0.63 ERA. The gifted right fielder for Augusta tagged opposing pitchers for a .400 average and was voted the Future Player of the Year Award for 2316. He hammered them for 96 hits, 12 doubles, 7 triples, 19 home runs, 59 RBIs and scored 60 times. That kind of output made him the choice for South League Future Player of the Year Award for 2316. August 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 23 August 2316 Covenant Repeats as MML Champions In what could be a preview of a Sole Survivor Series featuring their CBO parent teams, the Covenant Refractors and Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials met for the first time in the Massachusetts Minor Series. Each of at least one of these two teams had been there every year since 2311. In the end, the Refractors pulled out all the stops tonight, winning the Massachusetts Minor Series in a hard-fought series with the Tricentennials. It was a seesaw affair, but with a 7-6 victory at Boston Shelter Field, Covenant lay claim to the franchise's 2nd championship. "There's no denying we faced a tough opponent," said Animal Isstick. "But as the old saying goes, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and that's what we did today." The champs finished the regular season 61-47 and claimed first place in the Legends League Wade Boggs Division. A victory parade is set to be scheduled in Covenant in the days to come. Each of the Refractors (2313-2316) and Tricentennials (2311-2312, 2316) have been in every Massachusetts Minor Series since 2311. MML Playoff Tree Covenant Refractors

September 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 September 2316 The September 1 Super Post CBO Updates With just three more games in the regular season, the CBO races are still going strong. Of course, we will update on Monday, September 4, but for now, here is a breakdown: In the NCA, Malden is still the only team to clinch a playoff berth with four games to play. Four teams are still alive for the IL title, with Bunker Hill, Cambridge, Concord, and Fort Hagen each a game away from the team below it. Lexington trails by four games and Sunshine Tidings by five, so both are only in the wildcard race. Speaking of the wildcard race, all four slots are very much up for grabs with Nordhagen Beach, Easy Town, and The Slog all jumbled up at 66-61 or 65-62. The current playoff order with tiebreakers is Malden, Bunker Hill, Cambridge, Nordhagen Beach, Concord, and Easy Town. The Ghouls and Shroud are currently a game back of the final slot. In the SCA, the six teams are set as we expected, though there is still time to jostle for seeding. Vault 81 has clinched the #1 seed. Quincy and Atom are still tied atop the ML with the loser of that race probably the 6th seed but definitely at highest the 5th seed. The Gunners and Cats play their final game today in Quincy. Quincy then travels to Jamaica Plain, and the Cats finish with two at the Garage against Spectacle Island. Oberland has the advantage for the #3 seed, leading Glowing Sea by two and Diamond City by three. Neither Quincy nor Atom could catch up to any team but the Swatters in the wildcard race, if the Swatters go 0-3 to finish the regular season. CBO Top Performances Hitter - August did not see a masterful offensive performance as impressive as we saw in April, June, and July. However, with a score of 98, the top performance of the month did match May's top performance. This month's best was Brennan Colt-45 in a 15-4 Roxbury win over FHE. Colt-45 was 3 for 4 with two home runs, a walk, four runs, and five RBI. Justin Hazard's 113-point performance on July 9 is still the season's best. Pitcher - August also saw the lowest pitcher's high score of the season, with two pitchers victimizing FHE for 88 points. On August 19, Easy Town's Lonely Gale pitched 10.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits, walking two, and striking out four in the Assaultrons' 1-0 victory over the Yao Guai. One week later, on August 26, Sheldon Mayoral of Easy Town matched that 88 score against FHE. Mayoral pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out three in his 82-pitch effort for an 8-0 Ninjas win. Gale also has the season-high 95 points scored with his July 7 performance against Fort Hagen. CBO Players of the Month NCA Hitter - August's outstanding offensive player in the North Charles Association has been picked, and the honor goes to the Cambridge center fielder Pro Jabonete. He won the award by batting .346, hitting 6 home runs, knocking in 25 runs and scoring 19 times. Jabonete is batting .330 this season in 126 games with 27 home runs, 87 RBIs and 78 runs scored. He has 154 hits in 466 at-bats. SCA Hitter - Will Hell mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the South Charles Association Batter of the Month title. Hell batted .374 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored in a August performance that has Quincy fans eagerly awaiting what he can do in September. At the moment, Hell is hitting .318 with 29 home runs and 83 RBIs. He has played in 122 games and scored 75 times. NCA Pitcher - This month the North Charles Association spotlight fell on pitcher Hry Caje of the Malden Grognaks. What a August he had! A fine 6-0 won-lost record, 1.71 ERA, 7 starts, 52.2 innings pitched and 23 strikeouts -- good enough to get him the NCA Pitcher of the Month. This year, Caje has 19 wins and 8 losses and a 2.67 ERA. SCA Pitcher - When Sarthis Idren took the hill in August, he was in charge. The Oberland starter never let the South Charles Association batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 5-1 record and the Pitcher of the Month award. The talented T-51s hurler made 7 starts, worked 53.2 innings, permitted 36 base hits, and struck out 38 while putting up a 1.68 ERA. This season, Idren has compiled a 17-6 mark with a 2.35 ERA. NCA Rookie - Last month Wizard Albutt overwhelmed North Charles Association clubs and nailed down 1 victories. Today the Starlight starter was awarded the league's Rookie of the Month trophy. He was acclaimed for his outstanding performance during the month of August. Albutt soared through the NCA with 1 win and no losses and a 0.00 ERA. He struck out 16 in 11.2 innings and other clubs to a .209 average. This year, Albutt has 22 saves with a 4-6 won-lost mark and 2.73 ERA. SCA Rookie - Wunmore Tomorrow made a lot of Oberland fans happy this month. He not only put up a fine 2-2 won-lost record, he also was named the Rookie of the Month in the South Charles Association. In August, he made 0 starts and compiled an impressive 1.65 ERA, allowing teams to hit only .183 against him. In 2316 Tomorrow has totaled 55 relief appearances and saved 38. His record is 3-5 with 58 strikeouts in 60.1 innings and a 2.09 ERA. NEBL Playoffs The Greenfield Disciples ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Providence Warlocks 8-4 to win the New England Series. Greenfield won the series 4-3, capturing the title for the 1st time. "We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Greenfield manager Dwayne Watson. "It's a great feeling." The champs finished the regular season 56-52 and claimed first place in the Patriot League Vershire Division. In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and right fielder Marcus Baggett said the Disciples have "great fans and they deserve this." "I am so happy for our city right now," he said. The city of Greenfield is celebrating its second championship in 2316. Greenfield College won the CCBL's College Series. September 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 September 2316 CBO Regular Season Ends, Malden-Vault 81 as #1s Another Commonwealth Baseball Organization campaign is in the books. The regular season has ended and the playoffs are about to begin. It is a time of skill, talent -- and luck. And when all the games have been played, one team will survive and be crowned the 2316 Sole Survivor Series champion. Some clubs have coasted to make the playoffs -- others have scrapped tooth and nail to get here. After a long, sometimes seemingly endless regular season, it gets down to who can win a short series -- by hook or crook, talent or luck. That's what it takes to capture the Commonwealth Baseball Organization championship. The top teams will vie in the Sole Survivor Series starting today. NCA 1. Malden 2. Bunker Hill 3. Easy Town 4. Cambridge 5. Concord 6. The Slog SCA 1. Vault 81 2. Atom 3. Oberland 4. Glowing Sea 5. Diamond City 6. Quincy CBO Standings CBO Players of the Week August 28 - Eden Babz is respected by most Easy Town Assaultrons fans for his no-frills style of play. The 22-year-old center fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He compiled a .524 average (11-for-21) with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. At the moment, Babz is batting .346 with 9 home runs and 49 RBIs. He has played in 105 games and scored 71 times. 22-year-old Brad Hop sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, Hop made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .462 average, 12 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs and 4 runs batted in. Where the Quincy Gunners right fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Hop certainly made his mark last week. For the season, Hop is hitting .394, batted in 5 runs with 3 home runs and 6 runs scored. CBO Noteworthy News August 24 - Quincy Gunners owner Smiling Larry announced today that he will sell the Gunners team this offseason. According to Larry, "It's time. I'm 80 now. I'm on a soup of stimpacks, Jet, and Mentats. It's time to give this to someone else." Several groups are expected to make bids. Commissioner Nate Howard has expressed that the Quincy franchise is "staying put," so the team will be in Quincy long-term. August 30 - His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Lannie Tykeson did something even better -- the 39-year-old Oberland T-51s star has now won 150 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers. He joined that exclusive club today at Oberland Stadium by whipping the Glowing Sea Radscorpions 4-3, holding them to 14 hits in 5.1 innings while chalking up 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. In the postgame interview, the modest Tykeson said, "It's special to win 150 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back." Tykeson has a lifetime record of 150-134 with a 4.74 ERA. He also has a lifetime .321 batting average and .416 on-base percentage in his 1863-game career with 1960 hits and 371 home runs. September 1 - Getting 5 hits is a good day by any measure, but when those include a single, double, triple and a home run -- that's something special. Jay Gabby's day was a special one. The center fielder hit for the cycle to spark the 12-1 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets victory over the Goodneighbor Hancocks at Red Rockets Stadium. Jamaica Plain manager Scoundrel Easterling said he thought the whole lineup looked good in batting practice, but had not been expecting anything extraordinary from Gabby in particular. "Jay caught me by surprise today," the skipper said. "He looked good before the game, but man, he looked unbelievable during it." For the day, Gabby finished with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored to go with his 5 hits. Jay Gabby singled in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Hard Cohen in the 8th. Gabby is hitting .283 this season with 17 home runs, 62 RBIs and 73 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 477 at-bats. September 4 - You wouldn't have to be a baseball genius to think Scooter Yaghmour will win the coveted Vim! Pitcher Award this year. The Cambridge Coursers ace certainly has the numbers to take it, topping the North Charles Association with 21 wins, 2.42 ERA and 187 strikeouts to win the Pitching Triple Crown. "It's a great accomplishment," Yaghmour told reporters, "but my main goal is to go out there and win every game. The stats are nice, but they don't tell the whole story. The 21 wins are what I'm most proud of." September 4 - Eden Babz of the Easy Town Assaultrons was named North Charles Association batting champion today. The 22-year-old center fielder hit .342 with 9 home runs and 51 RBIs during the 2316 campaign, collecting 139 hits in 407 at-bats, while playing in 111 games. Deez Phantom of the Egret Ninjas was this year's best hitter in the South Charles Association. The 27-year-old right fielder collected the batting title with a .362 average. Playing in 118 games, the SCA champ racked up 160 hits in 442 at-bats with 13 home runs and 71 RBIs. September 4 - There is some uncomfortable silence coming out of the Lexington area involving GM Kevin Badluck and MGR Brandon Salinas. Team captains, Danny Enfryz, Oldman Llewellyn, and Grayson Topps, have supposedly expressed their displeasure of how the season was managed, dropping from NCA champions in 2315 to 64-66 and out of the playoffs in 2316. Lexington made no roster moves today, so we are curious to see what happens next and how the lineup will be shaken up heading into 2317. CBO Records Stolen Bases - 78 - Eden Babz, Easy Town; Previous record - 72, Bubb Islander, 2312 Opp. SLG - .278 - Alex Language, Glowing Sea; Previous record - .292, Derek Green, 2300 Final CBO Statistics

CBO Playoffs 2316
BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 5 September 2316 NCA Playoffs Preview - Wildcard Round #5 Concord Radstags (68-62) vs #4 Cambridge Coursers (69-61) Season Series: Concord 6, Cambridge 4 May 19-21 @Con: Con 4-2, Cam 5-1, Cam 4-0 July 3-4 @Cam: Cam 4-1, Con 4-1 August 25-27 @Cam: Con 4-0, Cam 5-4, Con 3-2 (13) August 31-September 1 @Con: Con 8-2, Con 7-1 Analysis These two teams met five times to end the 2316 season. Concord was battling for a wildcard spot, while the Coursers were attempting to win the Institute League title. The Radstags went 4-1 in that stretch, ensuring them of getting in over Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach. Cambridge finished a game back of Bunker Hill for the #2 seed. This is not a matchup of playoff-veteran teams, though Concord is in its franchise-record third-straight appearance. As the #6 seed each of the last two seasons, the Stags were quickly eliminated. The Radstags only won a playoff series in 2303 which also was their last Institute League championship. In that season, #2 Concord defeated #3 Nordhagen Beach before falling to Fort Hagen in the NCACS. Overall, the Radstags are 1-6 in playoff series and have never won a series as the lower-ranked team. Despite the Stags' lack of success in the playoffs, it's a lot more in terms of success than Cambridge. The Coursers, in their 7th season, join Glowing Sea (23130 and Malden (2315) as first-time playoff teams from the expansion franchises, leaving Southie as the only team never to have qualified for the playoffs. With a .531 winning percentage this season, it is also Cambridge's first winning season. For Concord's offense, runs are hard to come by. The Radstags were tied for 12th in runs scored (483) with home runs (9th with 98) being their best offensive category. The three best hitters are bunched at 2-3 in SS Grayson Capps, 1B Two Shoes Rivera, and CF Jannar Arbor. On the mound, the Stags have dominated for the most part, including being 1st in runs allowed (425). They are 2nd in Starters ERA (3.02) and 1st in Bullpen ERA (2.81), meaning every game will be low-scoring. Starters expected for the playoffs are Leyden Aigg, Kevin Gauzeman, and Frank Heart, with Mel Gorgeous (12-6, 2.73) moving to the bullpen. For the Coursers, both squads are more balanced. Cambridge is 4th in runs scored (561) with a good OBP (4th at .327) and stolen bases count (4th at 135). All of RFJim Geiger, CF Pro Jabonete, and LF Bubbler Mayhem have been among the NCA's best. The pitching is 4th in runs allowed (476) with the 3rd-best Starters ERA (3.08) and 9th-best Bullpen ERA (3.94). SP Scooter Yaghmour (21-4, 2.42, 187 K) won the NCA's Triple Crown and is the hands-on favorite to be the 2316 Vim! Pitcher Award winner. Rookie Bullets Barnes has also done well with help from Chad Nailgun as the third playoff starter. CL Monte Ward has not been dependable, so starters need to go deep in each game. Prediction We are pretty sure the scores are going to remain low all series. Concord got hot right at the end, while Cambridge could not get over the hump to claim the IL crown. The Stags are also more experienced for playoff play and capable of frustrating any offense. In this one, we are going with the veterans over rookies. Concord 2, Cambridge 1 #6 The Slog Ghouls (68-62) vs #3 Easy Town Assaultrons (69-61) Season Series: Easy Town 6, The Slog 4 April 10-11 @Slog: ET 6-1, ET 7-5 June 6-8 @ET: ET 9-7, Slog 4-0 (10), Slog 6-1 July 27-28 @ET: Slog 4-2, ET 7-0 August 28-30 @Slog: ET 7-4, Slog 5-2, ET 10-3 Analysis The Slog and Easy Town meet in this year's wildcard round as the #6 and #3 seeds, respectively. The Ghouls are making their 7th appearance in the playoffs, including 5 of the past 7 seasons. The Assaultrons are making their 8th appearance overall and second-straight after missing seven consecutive years from 2308-2314. Still, this is only the second time both teams have been in the playoffs in the same season (2300). This will be their first playoff matchup. In 2310, the Ghouls began their descent up the standings, finishing in second in the Brotherhood League that season but falling in the Wildcard Round as the #4 seed. After missing the playoffs in 2311, The Slog returned from 2312-2314. In 2314, they won the BL and the Sole Survivor Series for their first official title. The Slog won the "first" Sole Survivor Series in 2296 before the full league had formed into one. The Trons have never won the championship, though they were in the official first Sole Survivor Series, dropping that one in 2298 to Goodneighbor. In 2315, they finally returned to the NCA Championship Series for the first time since 2298, ultimately falling to #1 Lexington as the #3 seed. There has not been a whole lot impressive about the Ghouls in 2316, including on offense where they were 7th in runs scored (529). 3B Zap Mast and SS Gavin Deux-Gas carried the all-around hitting, with assistance from sluggers LF Name Brand Brown and 2B Puddle Norman. The pitching also was 7th in runs allowed (518), meaning that The Slog was pretty much a .500 team statistically. Ace Flirt Perez won 14 but also lost 12 due to poor run support in his starts. CL Orlando Bransford had lots of saves but also an ERA of 3.05, far above the closer average in 2316. Easy Town was not statistically much greater than the Ghouls. The Trons were 6th in runs scored (535) and led the CBO in stolen bases (172) thanks to a record-setting performance from CF Eden Babz (78). Babz (.342/9/51) is in the running for the Nuka-Hitter Award but Malden's Jacob Tarberry is the favorite. 1B Albie Cannibal led the team in homers with 12. On the mound, the Assaultrons are 5th in runs allowed (485) with a better bullpen than starting rotation. SP Lonely Gale was a great story in 2315 and continued his success in 2316. Third pitcher Cohort Williams was the best in the rotation for success (18-9, 2.91). CL Tut Cadillac (31 Sv, 2.09) was pretty good. Prediction Easy Town was in it last season and got all the way to the NCACS. The Slog was the champions of the CBO just two seasons ago. That part of the equation is a wash, so let's look at 2316. The Assaultrons won the season series, 6-4. They were better statistically and finished higher in the standings by a whopping one game. We give them the edge . . . by one game. Easy Town 2, the Slog 1 CBO Playoff Tree

Something I just remembered to look for was how many times it happened before. Well, for hitting Triple Crowns, it had happened twice before by guess who! Barker Cocoa led in average, homers, and RBI in 2307 and 2309.
For pitchers, Scooter Yaghmour in 2316. The OOTP algorithm needs to name him the Vim! Pitcher Award winner as more deserving than anyone has ever been in a season.

BNN Report News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 6 September 2316 SCA Playoffs Preview - Wildcard Round #5 Diamond City Swatters (71-59) vs #4 Glowing Sea Radscorpions (73-57) Season Series: Glowing Sea 9, Diamond City 1 May 19-21 @GS: DC 10-2, GS 2-1, GS 1-0 (12) July 3-4 @DC: GS 4-0, GS 4-3 August 25-27 @DC: GS 4-3, GS 4-0, GS 6-2 August 31-September 1 @GS: GS 6-4, GS 6-1 Analysis It's been a long time since we remember a playoff series between league opponents that was this lopsided in the regular season. With a 9-1 advantage over Diamond City, Glowing Sea's success against Diamond City accounted for a full 12% of their 2316 wins and put the Radscorpions in position to earn a higher seed than the Swatters. Historically, Diamond City has been good in bunches, making the playoffs each season from 2298-2304, including two championships (2299, 2300), and again from 2313-2316. That makes this season the 11th apperance for the Swatters This marks the third time in four seasons that the Swatters and Radscorpions meet in the #4 vs #5 game. Diamond City won both in 2313 and 2315. For Glowing Sea, they have existed seven seasons and now have made their third playoff appearance. As mentioned, the Scorpions have never won a playoff series, losing to the Swatters as the #4 seed in 2313 and #5 seed in 2315. On the season, the Swatters were OK on offense but good enough for their team's build as a pitching factory. The team finished 8th in runs scored (497) mostly due to star 2B Alex Bragman's play, hitting .276 with 20 home runs and 82 RBI. 1B I.C. Reader was second on the team with 10 home runs in a down season for power hitting. The pitching was great for Diamond City, finishing 2nd in runs allowed (435), including 1st in Starters ERA (2.83). All three playoff starters have a sub-3.00 ERA: Macho Lopez, Beachboy Nut, and Heaven Fontenot. That typically means lots of wins in the playoffs. Elastic Man Haley was not OK at closer with 16 saves and a 4,16 ERA, so he will not fulfill that role ion the playoffs. Glowing Sea, statistically speaking, should not be the #4 seed, especially due to their offensive output in 2316. The Radscorpions were 13th in runs scored (472) with every offensive category finishing in the bottom half of the SCA. Typical sluggers, Enigma Montgomery and Naga Arakaki had down seasons, though Arakaki did produce 75 RBI. The Scorpions were also not quite as good as Diamond City in pitching, finishing 3rd in runs scored (454) and Starters ERA (3.03). Still, the top two pitchers, Alex Language and Hot Lips Houlihan, have been dominant even without good run support. CL Mar Gotfenning (35 SV, 4.59) has not bee that good, despite finishing second in the CBO in saves to Oberland rookie Wunmore Tomorrow (39). Prediction Glowing Sea has dominated the series in 2316, including winning five in the last week of the regular season. It appears that the Radscorpions have every advantage. What the Swatters have going for them over the Radscorpions is playoff success, including the last three seasons where the Swatters won the series over the Scorpions. With factors of hitting vs pitching, though, one team seems built better for winning in the postseason. Diamond City 2, Glowing Sea 1 #6 Quincy Gunners (68-62) vs #3 Oberland T-51s (74-56) Season Series: Oberland 2, Quincy 2 April 27-28 @Obe: Qui 5-3, Obe 6-0 July 8-9 @Qui: Qui 6-2, Obe 3-1 Analysis This season marks only the fourth time both Quincy and Oberland are in the playoffs in the same season. The previous seasons were 2309, 2310, and 2314. In that span, they met once: the 2310 SCA Championship Series where the T-51s won the series 4-1 to move on to the Sole Survivor Series. The Gunners are making their sixth overall apperance in their franchise-record third-straight. In 2314, they reached their only Sole Survivor Series. For Oberland, they are making their 10th appearance. After making eight straight appearances from 2307-2314, the T-51s missed the playoffs in 2315. They were also good the two seasons before the CBO, finishing as the #1 overall seed in 2296 and 2297, including winning the second unofficial Sole Survivor Series in 2297. On offense, Quincy was OK, finishing 6th in runs scored (514), including the third-best home run output (98). Nuka-Hitter Award candidate 2B Will Hell (.320/29/84) was in contention for the Triple Crown (he did win the Quincy team Triple Crown) and led the CBO in homers. CF Duff Fee saw his average drop but contributed 17 home runs. The pitching finished 4th in runs scored (477) thanks to the 4th-best Starters ERA (3.08) and best Bullpen ERA (3.03). The top two starters had sub-3.00 ERAs in Make Money and College Luckyman. CL Professor Harriel (29 SV, 1.12) was his usual dominant self. The T-51s were more of an offensive threat, including finishing 2nd in runs scored (572) and 1st in stolen bases (180). From the leadoff spot, 2B Odd Todd Walker (.273/13/56/64 SB) was among the best. LF Foo Fieterz and 1B Dexion Evicus made the middle of the lineup dangerous. On the mound, Oberland finished 6th in runs allowed (517) thanks in part to poor starting pitching, finishing 11th in ERA (3.86). Ace Sarthis Idren (17-6, 2.35) was great, but veteran Lannie Tykeson (11-13, 5.60) struggled a lot. He moves to the bullpen for the playoffs and may get in a pinch hit or two. Rooke Tomorrow led the CBO in saves, tying for the 7th-best single-season effort with 39. The record is 41. Prediction Both of these teams have considerable strengths and weaknesses that both give them a chance to be champions and an almost equal chance to get blown out in a series. Looking at this season, the matchups between the two have been even. If we had to guess what the advantages are in this series, it would be that the T-51s were among the hottest teams in the last month of the season (20-10 in August and September) and have the home-field edge. Oberland 2, Quincy 1

For the playoffs hopefully Glowing Sea and Cambridge have good showings! Tough path ahead and neither look like real title contenders. Seems like its the Grognaks to lose |
