An unlikely hero emerged for the Tree House Tornado as journeyman sometime starter/sometime reliever Vince Lattea pitched a solid 5 innings, giving up just 2 hits and no runs to give his club the opportunity to nab a victory that secured the Pilsner division crown. (Lattea was a free agent signing on January 5th; and has pitching ratings of 38/31/40). It wasn't until the 5th inning that the Tornado broke out and scored Lattea some run support; and the bullpen held it from there.

While they lost their own game yesterday, Ballast Point was still able to celebrate as Waikiki lost as well, which clinched the Helles division title for the Commodores.

"You hate to back into a pennant, but we'll still take it." said first baseman Sandy Hernandez

While they only managed 3 hits in the entire game, Tattered Flag squeezed out 3 runs as well while holding Stony Creek scoreless to secure the 3-0 victory to clinch the Altbier division title.

"Not the prettiest win ever, but no one ever said a win had to be pretty." said all-or-nothing Man of War slugger Vic Barrera (40 home runs, 121 RBIs, .195 average, 195 strikeouts)

11 Oct 2020: BONUS BASEBALL!

two games on the schedule... one to decide a division winner (the other team gets a wild card spot)... the other the first of a three-way-team-tie-breaker to decide which team moves on to play Chafunkta for the final wild card position and which team goes home.

In the battle for the Eisbock division pennant...

Brian Horswill (SP) of Red Rock Elephino pitched a solid 6.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and no runs, with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts to help lead his club to a 1-0 victory over Kona Pipeline; and secure the Eisbock division title for Red Rock.

In the battle for the final wild card...

Justin McNally (SP) of Prairie Sun Mad Hopper had a pitching duel with Gerardo Cazares of Thimble Island Kraken. McNally would last 8 innings, giving up just 3 hits and no runs with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Cazares would go 7 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts... but his relief would falter as the Mad Hopper would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th and would make that hold up as they defeat the Kraken 2-0

Prairie Sun struck first, but Chafunkta had the final laugh as they powered their way to a 4-1 victory to claim the final wild card spot.

"You wouldn't think you'd be that excited after an 83-80 season, but it was just enough this time." said Kingfish slugger Sergio Araujo.

Milling Series - Game 1:

#1 Scorched Earth Giant Killer vs #4WC Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot

Top ranked Scorched Earth (only team to win over 100 games in the Beer League) rolled into the post season with supreme confidence. They owned the top seed through the playoffs, and they had their ace, Bobby Antonio (16-9, 2.45 ERA, 223 K) ready to go for game 1. On the opposite side, Weyerbacher snuck into the post season by snagging the final wild card spot, and would have to not only open on the road, but also with their second starter, Dustin Meyers (8-10, 3.30 ERA, 120 K).

Antonio performed as expected, going a solid 7.1 innings, giving up just 1 hit and no runs, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Meyers matched him pitch-for-pitch, going 6 innings, also only giving up 1 hit and no runs, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Weyerbacher would finally break through in the 9th inning with Giant Killer closer Quadir Carr on the mound. After a walk to Thomas Baum, Carr would get Dave Duncan to pop up for the first out. Robby Sandoval would come in to pinch hit and drove a long fly ball to left field. Scorched Earth left fielder Steve Hardin dropped the ball and allowed Sandoval to reach base and Baum to take third. Oscar Alvarenga drove a 2-2 pitch back up the middle to drive in Baum. Sandoval motored around second, took third and blew through the stop sign to challenge the throw and scored as well. Carr would strike out Arnold and Swope to close out the inning but the damage was done.

In the bottom of the 9th, Scorched Earth had a golden opportunity, putting runners on second and third with just one out; but failed to capitalize on it and lost the game 2-0
