Payrolls in that league are kind of ridiculous -- I should probably reign it in soon -- so the real issue was wanting to stay within $100 million and that big deal was ruining my ability to do that, more than it was really a crazy contract except you are right. But in this league, it seems ALL of the guys on those HUGE contracts underperform once they get big money. Kind of like real life, but I'm trying to find an in-game example of a guy who actually makes big money and earns it. Explains why he was available in the expansion draft in the first place.

Also, I took a player from Eugene Church's new dynasty Silas Delaney and inserted his great-great grandson Silas Delaney IV into my game. I liked his name.

He's based on a real life player too. I think Hank Aaron, but I don't remember who I used.

Memphis had the 1st overall pick in the draft, so we took him. I didn't really mind, he has a very "I should be in Memphis" name and I'm trying to make this team the NL version of my Great Plains Flycatchers juggernaut in the AL so memorable players are key to that experiment.

I'm still trying to flesh this thing out and I think I need to take a page out of my old FM dynasty from years ago, where I introduce people to each of the teams -- at least in the ABA anyway, for now -- and that way, it's easier to pay attention to the setup and jumping in from the start.

It's daunting in a fictional league with fictional players to make people want to care about the teams -- or the players -- but I think this league has enough history that done right, we could make it work.

I've been struggling for a while to figure out how to get out of this rut where I just run seasons over and over and there's no real point to it all. But I get stuck when it comes to sharing the story and getting invested enough to WANT to share the detail stuff.

So...I'm gonna try to regroup and see what I can come up with. More in bite sized bits rather than trying to take on a huge project because that's where I stumble.

While I figure out what I'm doing next, this year's Champions League is back. This time with 32 teams across the leagues. Will just profile that for the start.

Someone ask me how injuries on is working out for the fast-sim guy?

Remember one of those expansion draft deals I made to pick up ace pitcher Angus Tillett? How I traded Ron Commons, the cheap power hitter to my expansion compatriots after I liberated him from Ohio for that expensive guy above?

Ron is on pace for 73 home runs.

Angus is out for the year and oh bee tee dubs he's a free agent to be and wants a big contract to re-sign. (Speaking of which, Markus needs to fix the AI on that. Injured guys in walk years don't get big extensions.)

He was doing great before it happened, tho. Oh well.

League expanded to 32 but we're still only at 10 teams total for the postseason. Debating changing it, but I lowered it back down because I was tired of really good teams getting beaten on flukes.

Okay so I just took a look and I'm comfortable with playoff expansion in this context.

ABA now has 12 teams out of 32 making the post-season. 2 division champs in each league get byes. All four wild cards in each league play in a best-of-three game Wild Card Series with the winners advancing to the division series against the top seeds.

2116 FINAL REGULAR SEASON STANDINGS

I know that it seems like I only expanded the postseason so Memphis could get in, but I didn't, they just benefitted from my decision. I'd just forgotten to do it sooner.

- Great Plains came back to earth. At the start of the year, they were playing at a .800 clip.

- San Diego misses the postseason in the ABA but due to the Champions League changes will still get some postseason baseball anyway. Hell of a year from that team. I get credit since I drafted it and was responsible for some of those trades, but I had NO idea the team would be that good. The preseason predictions had them at 68-94 and they blew that out of the water.

Look at these efficiency numbers relative to $

Sick. Micah Gray was the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft. He's built off an import of Dwight Gooden's best season, but is only a 3-star potential player. I never expected he'd turn out a 16-game winner for them in his rookie year, but pretty cool that worked out.

I attribute that to the volatility of a stats only league and probably due to how things are now playing thanks to injuries and variables. I did turn injuries down from Low to Very Low. I just didn't like how frequent (and frankly, random) the injury model seemed.

Still...I do think injuries are here to stay in this league, even if it means that people will probably have a much harder time breaking records, etc., but for a while this should keep things interesting.

I'm excited for the playoffs to see how it goes, but I'm really excited for the first-ever Champions League.

Here are the stats for your individual players. Steve Kuffrey somehow got released by Utah for unspecified rules violations slash I have no idea why they released him before the draft, but he ended up being a FA and signing a FA deal with the Texas Electrics.

Everyone except Paul Scott (and the retiree Carlos Martinez) are in the majors.

Here's the Playoff Tree:

Great Plains looking for their 10th championship. Philadelphia seeking their first one in 77 seasons. For perspective, Philly last won a title in 2038 it was a back to back title and their set of titles in 28 seasons.

Great Plains didn't move from Savannah until the 2044 season. So the franchise we now know as the Great Plains Flycatchers who have claimed 9 championships have won NINE titles in the same amount of time that the Quakers have won zero.

I'm rooting hard for Philly.

Looks like I messed up the Champions League allocations. No San Diego. Boo.

Nevermind it's just OOTP. League associations are broken in my league for whatever reason. I submitted a ticket but it's a big problem probably due to how long it's been around. Oh well.

So that's 10 titles for Great Plains since 2044. Philadelphia is an original franchise and has 7.

No modern parallel for a super successful modern expansion club like this.

I'm working on the spinoff dynasty. Basically, what I'm thinking is...we'll do team capsules. I've done a great job of getting the individual players -- and even their grandkids -- involved, but now it's a matter of getting the teams out of the shadows. Part of the problem for a while was how much moving and shifting I'm prone to do, but...I'm pretty invested in the league as the ABA is composed right now.

While the meta playoffs aren't working, not gonna try that again in the interim either.

I was kicking the tires earlier on a consolidation, but the hassle of that isn't worth the confusion or the payoff, if only because I'm not super interested in the teams that exist outside of this league right now. They're major leagues, but...the ABA is still the gold standard.

Anyway, what I'm envisioning now is doing a wikipedia style team capsules of the franchises in the ABA, complete with comparison of IF YOU LIKE THIS REAL LIFE TEAM THIS IS YOUR ABA TEAM in the hopes that we can start to humanize these clubs a bit.

Not even really for you, but for me.

Someone did a list of projections of US population cities for 2100.

How timely for me:

Here are some interesting features I'm curious about using from Sports on Earth:

- Every ABA team's top 3 rivals
- Grantland's Worst contracts in baseball feature

But first, I just want to do a flyby of the whole major league, so you can get a sense of the teams and who they are and stuff.

Also, I think I am going to Seattle Pilots the San Diego club because I can. Based on the cities above, help me figure out where to put them?

Speaking of interventions, I've mentioned before that the stadiums were all standardized and Memphis and San Diego were the first two in the history of the league to get their own stadiums.

Now I'm gonna open it up to other teams. But you all get to decide the dimensions/stadiums that I use. You can name it if you want too, don't care.

Just in the ABA for now.

Here's the cities:

So Pixar released a movie in 2110 called Wildboars, about a team of kids from the inner city who get a coach to take them all the way to the Little League World Series.

So when Pixar bought the San Diego Skippers on the cheap after their own got arrested for embezzlement, forcing the ABA to figure out what to do with the team, Pixar immediately capitalized on Wildboars fever, since they've had three sequels since it was initially released.

No indicating whether they'll stay in San Diego or not, but someday look forward to a refresh update from Knuck and Tex of Wildboars.
