First, maybe it was Randy Bass who applied the curse. "You're telling me that you used a statue of Colonel Sanders because it looked like me? A hex be upon ye!" Second, apparently Hanshin Tigers fans are equivalent to New York Yankees fans in terms of rowdiness. "As far as passion goes, the Tigers fans are probably more knowledgeable than any other fanbase out there," Raichura said. "They're greater in number, they're probably greater in volume. As such, they're probably greater in their acts of hooliganism or fanaticism. They're a step above everyone." They are the worst fans in Japanese baseball. Or is it Hanshiners in general?

There is no such thing as "Hanshiners", because teams in [Not Permitted] Baseball are named after their corporate sponsors, not their home cities.
The Tigers are named for Hanshin Electric Railroad, which owns the team. They play in Nishinomiya. I literally had no idea about the "Colonel Sanders curse". You never know what you'll find. Speaking of which…Padres at Braves is on my local NBC station right now. Apparently this is a deal where NBC is trying to help out financially troubled RSNs? Has anybody else had this happen? (Not that I need this to see Braves games, as I'm "local" for FDSportsSouth, and I hardly want to spend more time with Brandon Gaudin and Jeff Francoeur, but it might be useful in other markets.) |

But yes, you are right that *** and KBO teams are named for corporate sponsors, and yes, the Hanshin Tigers are owned by Hanshin Electric Railway. But apparently that company is named for the region of Hanshin. (As are a bunch of other businesses in the area, as you will see if you follow that Wikipedia link.) EDIT: Ha, ha! You see those stars? It's because I used the acronym — let's see if THIS gets starred — for the Japanese professional baseball league. Here's a clue: ORC, -1, -2, -1 (shift each letter the indicated number of spaces in the alphabet). That organization must have really dumped on OOTPD for them to need to go to this length to avoid litigation.

In slo-mo it doesn't look as bad. Surprisingly, the guy who laid on the ground after, the CF, stayed in the game while the guy who chased after the ball, the RF, did not (knee injury). It probably would have been worse if they had smacked their heads against each other.

They ought to knock off the nonsense with these alternative uniforms, or whatever they are called (City Connect?). I'm looking at Orioles at Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are dressed in . . . let's see if I can find a picture . . . okay, here it is. "Fenway Greens".
Jesus. I thought I had gone through a time warp and was watching the Oakland Athletics. I get the concept. The "Greens" is supposed to be picking up the color of the Green Monster, I believe. Qualifier: I am just an old fud that nobody gives a damn about in marketing terms. Obviously, I am not the target audience for this money grab. But I will go down fighting: These are the Boston RED Sox. Pride in one's team traditions is, to me, basic for true fandom. Otherwise, they are selling their alternate jerseys to airhead dilettantes. And ultimately harming their own brand in the pursuit of profits.

Not only have I already seen two separate 19-5 games this year, I have now also seen consecutive games going to extras at 5-5.
Will wonders ever cease!?
