You might be better off doing that for some of the Quebec Colleges also as some are english such as Mcgill and Concordia so just tossing in a bunch of random names from random places might be a little more realistic

hmmm good point. While I figured that since it's the early 1900's, french last names woudl abound in the Quebec unis(and OOTP doesnt geenrate any fench last names, figure that out) you are right that unis such as mcgill and concordia would have more of a mixed bag.

As The Right Hon. Sir Robert Laird Borden threw out the first pitch at Capitol Hill, the inargural season of the Canadian University Baseball Association began across the country. The commishioner, the Prime Minister, and several members of the cabinet of the Dominon of Canada took in the leagues first game featuring the Ottawa Gee Gee's verses the Montreal Carbines as one of twenty games that on across the country. RF William Robbins of the Carabines would get the first hit of the young league, and Harry Howie of the Montreal club would get the leagues first home run, but it would be Ottawa that would get the first victory, as the Gee Gee's would win the game 4-1, with freshman Gavin Cashman getting the victory.

That early game would set the table for each clubs fortunes for the next two weeks. Ottawa is tied for first with the Bishop Gaiters, while Montreal is in dead last in the Quebec division. The Atlantic division is being leveled by the Axeman of Acadia, with Moncton and Sherbrooke nipping at their heels. In the Western conference, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks are the team to beat, even with some early injury issues, they have been able to power ahead of McMaster, Toronto and Windsor, all tied for second. In the Western division, the Clansmen are barely leading the division, with eight teams just a series away from leading themselves. Only the Manitoba Bisons and the Saskatchewan Huskies would need a sustained winning streak.

Some Items in the news for the first two weeks:

The first one hitter of the league is thrown by Christopher Henke of the Laurentien Voyageurs against the McGill Redmen in just the sixth day of the leagues existance. When asked about his game, his words were pricise. "I felt that I was pitching great all day, our team was firing on all cylinders, what a game!" replied Henke before being mobbed by congratulitory team-mates.

Also the first player of the weeks were announced, with the Eastern Conference selecting Acadia's Sean Starrett for his stellar performance(2-0, 1 SHO, 18 IP, 1.50 ERA, 5 K). The Western's Conference winner went to Simon Fraser's Carl Turnbow, who has been almost unhittable the last two weeks(2-0, 2 SHO, 18 IP, 0.00 ERA, 5 K). Look for both of these pitchers to be giving their oppositon fits, and their managers permanent smiles.

Bit of a sneak preview for tonights writeup for the fans(aka anyone that has shown an intrest)

Matt from TN - Saskatchewan does not like May's, and its' showing with there last place for the entire WEster Conference

seth70liz76, emmaculate - UBC - The T-Birds are hanging around .500 still, but shoudl improve as one of their starters is comign back from injury next week

Jazzmosis - Western - The second worst record in the Western conference, fortunes shoudl improve a bit as their ace is coming off the DL tommorrow. It'll defiantely help the pitching, as its' ranked 37th in the league

Tauro, treedom - McMaster - They started off fast, but have slumped in the last half of May, letting Toronto, Windsor, and Waterloo pass them by. Still within striking distance though

ill16ca - Saint Marys - Bad news i'm afraid, there the Eastern Conferecnes version of the Saskatchewan Huskies

jack4jack - McGill - Finally I can write some good news They've roared back and are now up there with Bishop, Ottawa, and the surprising Laurentien Voyageurs to tie for first.

cuss - SFU - The Clansmen are finding the top half of the division quite crowded nowadays, with Alberta giving them a run for their money, and Lakehead and yes, the Victoria Vikings roaring in with four and seven game winning streaks respecitvely.

Great idea, I'll be following this dynasty closely. My only problem is that I went to UBC and my wife went to Regina and they're in the same division. Oh well, that increases the chances that I will have a team make the playoffs.

The season started to heat up, as the gap widens between the contenders and the pretenders. In the Atlantic, Acadia is still leading the way, but Sherbrooke wont leave them alone, and the Francis X-men have joined the party to make it a VERY crowded time at the top. Look for Sherbrooke to be hurt a bit though, as their starting rightfielder Tony Shotwell will be gone for the season, after tearing a back mucle making a spectacular catch in a game against Memorial. On the other end, St. Marys is laughisghing behind badly along in 10th, and is the owner of the worst record in the conference, and tied with the Saskatchewan Huskies for the worst record in the league! Without any injuries to blame their slow start on, look for it to get worse before it gets better.

In the Quebec division, it's stating to get crowded at the top as well. Bishop and Ottawa are still neck-and-neck, and Laurentien is still right on their heels and the Redmen of McGill are red hot, roaring into a tie for third. Look for Bishop to be able to pull away as the injury bug has been brutual to both the Gee Gee's and the Voyageurs, taking out SP James Breeke for five weeks with a strained bicep, and CF Jack Mathewson for the season with a broken foot respectively. If McGill keep up this pace, we coudl have an all Quebec showdown in the coming months.

The Ontario divison is home to the hottest, and perhaps the team that can make the claim as the luckiest in the league, the Wilfrid Laurier GOlden Hawks. Most teams having three of their starting pitchers going down to injury woudl have been decimated, but the Golden Hawks are not only competing, but are dominating, playing at a torrid .700 winning percentage, and with their starters coming back this month, thats' bad news for their competition. Waterloo in any other division would be the front runner, but even with an improvement in their winning ways, they're still on the wrong end of first. Toronto and Windsor, who were keeping Waterloo comapny in second, have started to drop off the pace.

The Western division, which was the closest with five teams within a game of first, has started to open up, and has a few surprises. Simon Fraser lost their lead but are stil within grasp, Lakehead is also one winning streak away, but Regina dropped off and is now three games back. Alberta is sharing the lead, with a surprising team from Victoria. The Vikings took a winning streak and did what the Redmen from McGill had tried, making a winning streak get them back in the thick of things. Look to see if this will turn into a hotly contested division this year.

In the News, The Pitcher of the MOnth award woudl find Lakehead's Benjamin Holthaus on the winner list, as his month was absolutely dominating. Picture this for a line: Eight wins, a 0.70 ERA, 25 whiffs in 77 innings of work, and has compiled four shutouts, and finished every game he's pitched in! No wonder Lakehead is in the hunt for the lead. FOr the Easterners, Queen's James Fremont, originally hailing from across the sea in Australia, would pick up the honours, with the line of six wins, a 1.59 ERA, gettng thirty-eight strikeouts in sixty eight innings, and two shutouts. After a rough beginning to May, James, and the Golden Gaels, are starting to turn it around. For the Batter of the Month, the team shoudl be no surprise, as Bishop's Blaine Pritt collects the award, going .366 with four dingers, and scoring twenty-two runs. The WEstern Conference awarded their counterpart to Guelph's third baseman DOnald Waddy, who has the leagues best batting average of .434 and scoring 18 runners in less than one hundred batting appearences. Not too shabby indeed, now if only the rest of his team could join him.
