the player salary report is really buggy.... there a big issue who is free agent next season, arbritation, etc.....Its not showing up correctly on that report...very confusing..

i also wish the league wide news section possible FA report and the salary report will be consistent with each other...

But what if something happens that first day and say he goes on the DL out for the season and gets no more time? Unlikely, but there does seem to be sense in doing what the game is in reporting, which seems to be just looking at things right at that moment. It would be reasonable to count out to the end of the season, but that would be speculation.

There does seem to be an inconsistency as the league wide news section possible FA report appears to list anybody with 5+ years even if there is no way they could get to 6 years by season's end. Seems like it is using the same logic as the game used to before service was broken down into days. Other than that though, like I said I can understand the game using the logic of "if the season ended today" even though it may be confusing and misleading. That said, counting out days to season's end may be a clearer way to do it, though I still think you can have cases where that would end up misleading. Think the game should show just one way or the other? What about somehow both?
Reading your post is like reading my own thoughts. I agree, for financial purposes it should be counting it as if the season ended today. So, it should be:

FA to be - >=6 yrs mjr
Arb Eli - 3 to <6 yrs mjr
Auto Re-Sign - <3 yrs mjr

But what I'm thinking might be good is having a likely FA at the end of the season (currently 5 years and some days but likely 6 years at the end) could be listed as "possible FA", but his contract would be considered as arb eli for financial purposes for his team. Likewise with possible arb elis (currently 2 years and some days but likely 3 years at the end), they can be listed as "possible arbitration eligibles", but for financial purposes for his team his contract would be counted as an auto re-sign.

EDIT: So right now it looks like the game is not calculating the likelihoods correctly (see my above posts). Or at least I would call Zubayda a possible FA but count his finances as arb eli, but Sibadili is definitely an auto-resign as there is no way he can get the required days (unless OOTP is using the top 17% rule). I'm not sure how it is calculating the finances of these players though, but I'll be looking into it.
