I'll have to admit that part of his fine post wasn't Ty Cobb quality.

Mal joined this board when it opened, just like a lot of us, I believe December '01 is when this board opened. There were 2 or 3 boards prior to this one that many of us also posted at. Mal's been around at least since v2 that I know of (that's when I got my first fix)

You shut up, we'll shut up.
Anyone who enjoys the game is free to say so, as are people who have problems with the game.

The posts I would deem fanboyish are things like this

Quote:
If you are unhappy with the game, then don't play it, don't buy it, and don't bash those that enjoy the game.
Mal brings up some legitimate gripes and this is what cshigh has to say? That's just bull**** fanboyish and can't be defended. Nowhere did MD bash anyone, and posts like the one quoted do nothing to further the discussion or development of the game.

Oddly enough, that's a very good question -

What IS the purpose of this board? There's a board only for suggestions, there's a board only for bugs and tech support, and then there's this board.

Mind you, this isn't a complaint about people "crossing over" with subjects that seem to technically belong elsewhere, but it begs the question as to what DOES belong here?

Perhaps there's a certain kind of member who's thinking this board is for the positive comments and sharing good times with the game, and then there's a certain kind of member who views this forum as a catch-all, and therefore will sometimes complain about some aspect of the game. Then the pissing contest begins and someone usually walks grumpily away.

Hopefully we can all have an open mind and follow your "live and let live" approach. Anyway, back to the rant....

Great post PurdueBrad. Folks with the sort of attitude "if you don't like it than shut up" are doing much more harm to the game than folks voicing honest criticism.

Quote:
I agree with all that was said. Maybe not quite as harshly, but none the less agree.
Why is it on a messageboard that people voicing honest opinions in an emphatic way are usually portrayed as being harsh? He is offering an honest and firm criticism IMO.

If I were a developer, I'd love to hear those comments all the time, especially if the usual comments that I hear are "why doesn't this work" or "you know what you should do to make the game better?"
No need to shut up. Just feel free to read the whole post.

Fix the things that need to be fixed first, then and only then, add new features.

And don't release a game until it is basically free of major flaws.
Agreed a 100% We don't need no stinking new features! Until all the stinking old features are all fixed!

Seriously if you keep adding new features on top of past features, that weren't working 100%. The game then becomes one big mess. Where bugs will be harder to squash, and perhaps create new ones.

You obivously have no idea what you are talking about... I need to make something VERY clear to anyone thinking like this... We do love OOTP, and the people that are complaing have been playing OOTP since the very first versions. This is not about OOTP being horrible, and sucking.... this is about the present direction of the game/company, and the nagging bugs within the game.

When people post stuff like Malleus, Eck, and HR post things like this... they aren't doind it to "bash" the game. They are doing it so the game we've all loved for so long doesn't end up in the crapper... or going down a path that we think is not a good one.

ROFL. This board isn't the first OOTP board, newbie.

FYI, I was one of the original OOTP1 customers and OOTP board members.

Thanks for the post, Mal. Everyone here at the convention was wondering what your answer and cheap insult would be in response to the post.

Wow, a total fanboy AND a gaping abyss of ignorance all in one!

1. I've been playing it since OOTP1.

2. I pre-bought Version 6.

3. I didn't "bash" anyone who enjoys the game. Hell, I enjoy the game. Go back and re-read, I didn't say anything about ANY user. Did you flunk reading comprehension, or are you just plain stupid?

I find it amazing that I have been accused for so long of being Markus' biggest defender and now some newbie pops up with this piece of total idiocy.

What can I say but: STHU, newbie.

It pains me to agree with Soxwin but he is correct.

There wan't any "cheap insult" in that post. Your post showed just what a newbie you are, and I called a spade a spade.

Now do us all a big favor and shut the Hell up, newbie. I'm trying to get the game improved and all you are doing is trying to pick a fight.

Ah, but I am the senior member. My old friend Tris was on the boards before me, but the newbies ran him off.

I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to improve the game. I have all the friends I need.

Yeah, I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed to see the way that a legitimate gripe by Malleus has transformed a couple people that I thought were legitimate posters into people that seem to want to pick a fight with M.D. Although I think M.D. shouldn't turn the term 'newbie' into such a derogatory, he only started doing that after he was attacked by a couple people who should be above verbal attacks. Sad to see, honestly.

Just a little observation, when did 'Convention' (which I should've friggin' gone to damnit! ) mean read the forum all day in another city? You guys should be doing fun, exciting things and then telling me about them so I can be more ticked I didn't go!

No, if you were trying to get the game improved you would be contacting Markus and the rest of the development team in person instead of posting on a public board to make yourself look good. You're trying to fan the flames of adoration by the people who believe it's fashionable to try and slam the game because in their perverse logic they think publicly pointing out flaws will enhance the image of OOTP.

Now, if you want to help, take your own suggestions to Markus and quit trying to make yourself look good on this board you arrogant egomaniac.
