Just FYI, SteveBsFan sent me his files and I found the problem. When parsing player histories it looks for '...' to end an entry. It then updates the database with this entry. For a some reason, one of his players had 4 entries in a row that didn't end with '...' and then one that did. So, my program thought that these 5 entries were 1 entry and tried to enter it in the database. The problem was that this entry was over 300 characters long and the database field will only accept entries up to 255.
I've made the HTML parsing a little more robust and this type of error shouldn't happen as often. I also fixed the error logic to ignore this type of error and move on instead of stopping. I'll try to get the next version out this weekend. I'll also work on fixing the original problem in this thread. If I understand it right, if a pitcher pitches in the postseason and then is released, there is an error. Does this happen even if the pitcher pitched in the regular season? |

I've never had it happen for a pitcher who pitched in the regular season. I've only seen it happen with a pitcher who was in the post season and wasn't assigned to a team when Catobase was run.

Okay, there appears to be times when my program cannot figure out the last team a FA played for. I've added a dialog box that will pop in this case and the user can select the correct team. If the user doesn't know or care, they can hit Cancel and the player will not be added to any team.

I didn't reply to your email because I am sure you're busy, but thanks for taking the time to look into this problem and fix it!

Was the problem with history importing ever fixed? I've been having a similar problem with player histories importing that causes the create HTML process to fail as well. Turning off histories fixed the problem. I did about 6 years of simming and CatoBasing without histories and then decided to try it again and it worked. I was very excited, thinking maybe the player that was causing the problem had retired and this wouldn't be an issue any longer. Unfortunately, the problem came back in the very next season. The people who read my site are big fans of the histories, so I'm hopeful to keep them on there. Any word on this possible update, jcato? Thanks
