Update:

San Diego Sharks won their Diamond division but were turned back in the World Series, losing in five games. A major improvement from the mound corps, as they finished second overall in team ERA after being well into the bottom half last week.

Last Chance Texaco won their Gold division but were knocked off in the Division Series and will not be promoted to Diamond. Chipper Jones, Turkey Stearnes, Willie Wells, and Mookie Betts were the offensive stars, and the team also led the conference in Zone Rating, picking up three Gold Gloves. The pitching was solidly above average, with Robin Roberts, Johan Santana, Mickey Lolich, and Rube Foster all winning double digits. Still holding onto 85,000 points, which are probably best invested in live card spec as another month is winding down IRL.

Petrograd Soviet won their Silver division and will be promoted to Gold for the first time despite dropping the Conference Championship. This is another team that's heavy on Negro Leaguers, with Stearnes, Wells, and Buck Leonard in the middle of the lineup, Rube Foster winning 17, and Luis Tiant (Sr.) winning six games out of the pen and notching 18 holds to help closer Sean Doolittle lead the league with 46 saves.

And my one championship for the week. The Wherever Whatevers went 137-25 during the regular season and 11-1 during the playoffs to capture the Stone 162 title. George Davis wrapped up an MVP season which included a batting title (.331), 77 extra-base hits (including 20 triples), 35 stolen bases, 127 runs scored, and 98 RBI. Johan Santana (22-4, 2.34) was Cy Young winner for the second straight season, robbing teammate Robin Roberts (27-3, 2.59). Jim St. Vrain was Reliever of the Year (7-0, 0.83, 45 saves). Gotta love these low-level leagues.

Oh, and the Whatevers also pulled this guy on Friday. Life is good.

Both of my important teams ended 83-79 and neither made the playoffs. I invested a staggering 1 point to improve the Mosquitos by breaking tradition to acquire and use a live mission reward card: Johan Santana. While the free-spending Locomotives signed Jackie Robinson well above the L10 for 200K. The Locos also finished the missions for Turkey Stearnes and Mookie Betts and kicked the new week off with an Early Bronze win to claim Russell Martin off waivers.

After winning the rookie level, I went 124-38 in Stone and lost in the 2nd round to a team that won 97 games. My team was nearly all diamond (with the exception of a couple targeted golds for platoons) and the team I lost to was mostly silver and gold players. Aggravating to lose like that, but we've started 8-2 in Iron.

Things are looking up for the main (FL theme) after pulling the 9th of 25 Dave Winfield limited edition cards. Sold for 900k, and now I have buy orders in for all the FL's I need to finish the missions.

Once those are done, my plan is to sell A-Rod and buy Elly and any of the other FL's that I feel will help us settle in as a gold regular and occasional diamond team.

Update: Won the WS in Gold last week to advance to Diamond, so back-to-back WS wins with the updated squad.

Added Carl Hubbell, Fred Lynn and Johnny Mize to the roster.

60-54 in Diamond, narrowly holding onto a wildcard playoff spot. At an incredibly -7 games below my projected record - so feeling good about making the playoffs and then anything can happen.

Sidenote: A-Rod won the last two MVPS and WS MVPs. Never had a back-back MVP/WS MVP before in all my years of playing PT.

F2P (with PT+) but I limit myself to player cards from 1990-2023. Nothing but a real slow build so far.

The Patriots exorcise my personal demons and win their first title in two cycles, taking the S268 silver level series in a 4 game sweep!

Anthony Volpe woke up from a season long slump to win series MVP, with Jackson Chourio winning AC MVP, hitting .289 with 25 HR and 84 RBI, playing to a 5.7 WAR.

Update. A disappointing 2040 season.

San Diego Sharks went from Diamond World Series to barely avoiding relegation. After a 17-10 start on Monday, the Sharks offense vanished and finished with only 558 runs. Completed the Baseball Ref missions in time for the start of 2041, and the results are encouraging. 29-19 to this point, and no Tuesday offensive collapse. Top six are now Robin Yount, Chipper Jones, Mickey Mantle, Fred Lynn, Johnny Mize, and Mookie Betts.

Last Chance Texaco won their Gold division but lost the World Series in seven games. They were promoted to Diamond and are holding their own in a tough division at 27-21. Top six are Chipper Jones, Topps Jose Altuve (he just keeps hitting), Mookie Betts, Turkey Stearnes, Willie Wells, and a platoon of Eric Thames and Tony Perez. This team is seriously all in on live spec and will pull in 450,000 points if everyone gets promoted to the next level (although I doubt that my two Corbin Carrolls are going Perfect).

Petrograd Soviet made the Gold playoffs but were knocked out in the first round and remained in Gold for 2041. They are 26-22 to this point, and I obviously need to do something with the 46 packs and 92,000 points they have sitting in the kitty. Top six are Ben Zobrist, Turkey Stearnes, Willie Wells, Buck Leonard, Lance Berkman, and the ubiquitous Mookie Betts.

Wherever Whatevers finished second in their Iron division to another low-level juggernaut, and the joke was on both of us as we were both knocked out by an 85-win Wild Card and have to repeat Iron level. So far in 2041, first place with a 34-13 record. Top six are George Davis, HoJo, Reggie Smith, Topps Alex Bregman, Mo Vaughn, and...wait for it...Mookie Betts. My big pack pull Fergie Jenkins went 29-3 last season and is off to an even better start this season, with a 2.04 ERA and a ridiculous 9:1 K/BB rate.

...and just for funsies, I started a theme team. Seventies Bombers use only players from the start of division play in 1969 through the '81 strike season. They are off to a 41-8 start in Rookie League, and their top six are Cesar Cedeno, Ben Oglivie, Perfect Reggie Smith, Fred Lynn (yes, that one, he's breaking the game at this level), Dick Allen, and Perfect Ted Simmons. This team will need some serious help with pitching as time goes on because there just aren't that many great Seventies pitchers in this year's set. Steve Carlton, where are you?

Jackie Robinson justified his high price tag with 8 WAR and the Locomotives win game 163 to advance to the gold league playoffs, but die there in the wildcard round. Nevertheless, a change in strategy was deemed worthwhile: twitch drops are switched to this team and PT+ purchased. No new major card purchases, but the team is down to just two gold cards, with 3 perfects and the rest diamonds.

Nothing happens with the Mosquitos although they did make it back to gold after 2 weeks in silver exile.

Nothing happens with the Bengals.

The Tigers win Rookie League.

Heartbreaker.

Lost in game 7 of the World Series in Diamond League. So close to that 100K and Perfect League.

The New York Patriots go back to back, winning their gold WS in 5 games. Paul Skenes (22-8, 2.66) wins the 2041 AC Best Pitcher award, and Hunter Brown (7-2, 14 sv, 2.19 ERA in 80 appearances) wins AC Best Reliever. The Patriots led the league in steals with 258. In order to survive in diamond, the Patriots will have to hit far better than they did this week, as they were 11th in conference with a .249 batting average and held a conference-worst .316 on-baes percentage.

The Locomotives won the Gold League championship! Somehow, they got past two stacked teams (21 Perfect cards each; I had 5). Helpful acquisitions during the week: Don Newcombe (from a diamond pack won in daily bronze) and Willie Wells and Rube Foster from NeL1 mission. Bought Addie Joss after the fireworks were over. New closer, Gene Garber, reeled off 41 consecutive saves and the achievement PP, augmented by gold league and PT+, paid for his purchase price.

The Mosquitos, well, you can check the signature. Maybe, playing in Colorado Field is a mistake. Switching to pitcher friendly park.

Last week was time off for live spec. My three non-Diamond teams made the playoffs, and two of them (Wherever Whatevers and Seventies Bombers) won the championship. The two Diamond entries stayed in the race but faded in September.

Waffletown sets a new team record for wins with 107 (breaking their old record of 103 set in the inaugural Rookie league year). Pete Incaviglia narrowly missed nabbing the triple crown (2 home runs off the pace), batting a league leading .331 with 30 home runs and 111 RBIs. Team overall lead the league in most offensive categories, and a few defensive.

Now just waiting to be ousted in the LDS by a wild card team

Acquired the last card needed to get Max Scherzer right before the gold WS & immediately put him in at #2. he pitched well & the Men won a gold title.

On to diamond.

Soap Co on their way back down to gold but just finished the Hubbell mission for a fresh start next year.

likewise!

yeah, been playing OOTP since v2 and PT since it started in v19... while my other two team slots change their names from time to time/version to version; the Syrups will always be a fixture as long as the game is around.

congrats on the Gold title... my prediction of an LDS choke was premature... it was the LCS so back to Diamond yet again without that Gold title

Update through the 2042 season. Lots of mission completions thanks to live card spec.

San Diego Sharks returned to the Diamond playoffs, winning their division with an 89-73 record but getting knocked out in the LCS. Completed Negro League 2 and added Gibson, Paige, Donaldson, Torriente, and Newcombe.

Petrograd Soviet advanced to Diamond and were in the division hunt until a late swoon. Completed Baseball Ref and added Hubbell, Lynn, Mize, and Brecheen in addition to Perfect Simmons, Lolich, and Tannehill.

Last Chance Texaco's Diamond season was nearly single-handedly undone by closer Kenley Jansen, who blew seven saves and lost 13 times. Despite a late-season rally, they finished 80-82 and were not in the race. Completed Negro League 2 and added Paige, Gibson, Suttles, and Donaldson. Also added Robin Yount at short, moving Willie Wells to third base. Topps 3 is nearly complete, waiting for a bid on Luis Gonzalez to fill.

Wherever Whatevers dominated in Bronze, winning their division with a 112-50 record, but lost the World Series.Completed Baseball Reference and also pulled a 98 Teixeira to go along with Hubbell, Lynn, and Mize from Baseball Ref. Added Perfect Simmons and Mauer behind the plate.

Seventies Bombers won the championship at Stone level with their preexisting roster and have added 99 Tony Perez and 99 Willie Stargell plus Perfect Mickey Lolich to the mix for this week's attack on Iron league.

Update through 2043.

San Diego Sharks went 99-63 in Diamond, which was the best record in a well-balanced league, but they were again knocked out in the playoffs and have reached their seventeenth straight Diamond season. Results look good so far, with a 17-9 record through Monday's games.

I feel like I'm running out of time, though, because the big spenders will hit those new Immortal Seasons missions hard. I'm now sitting on 76 incomplete missions, which is a high for this cycle and puts me in my league's lower half in terms of completed missions. Still, four months in Diamond is nothing to spit at for Free to Play, and I'm pretty satisfied with how I've moved and improved through this year's cycle.

Current San Diego lineup is Chipper Jones at DH, Mickey Mantle in left, Johnny Mize at first base, Josh Gibson behind the plate, Fred Lynn in center, Willie Wells at third, newly-acquired Larry Doby at second, Robin Yount at short, and Mookie Betts in right field. The bench is Bill Dickey, Tommy Harper, Pete Incaviglia, and Cristobal Torriente.

Pitching staff is Satchel Paige, Carl Hubbell, Max Sherzer, Johan Santana, and Bert Blyleven backed by a pen of Mickey Lolich, Robin Roberts, Don Newcombe, John Donaldson, Luis Tiant (Sr.), Kenley Jansen, Rube Foster, and Gus Weyhing.

My two other Diamond teams, Petrograd Soviet and Last Chance Texaco, are a bit over-matched at this level (both finished 74-88 last season) and are in ignore mode at the moment.

Wherever Whatevers cruised to another championship, this time at Silver level, with a record of 111-51, and are now in Gold .323.

Seventies Bombers, my theme team, won 113 games but were knocked out in the first round and are repeating Iron level this week.
