I hate these stupid road to releases. Just tell us what is new and be done with it. I mean really. First you are late this year and were not ready for baseball to begin. Now you are dragging out the announcement over a series of weeks for what purpose? I mean really? Be like every other software company do one announcement then accept the pre-orders. I've bought every OOTP since 10 but I'm getting a little underwhelmed and this drag out release nonsense is making me less interested.

Speaking as a dev, I write features until they appear to be done to me. Our definition of "done" is, I look at the design documentation and I match it up to the thing I'm working on until the documentation describes what I wrote, no more, no less. That's what developers do. If there's a robust test harness as part of your integration process, perhaps that might pick up on something I missed before the beta/QA team even looks at it, but even there it's going to take at least one more pair of eyes to look at the end product that I wrote and decide whether or not it works / does what it's supposed to do / looks good / etc. I'm looking at this thing for a long time, sometimes days, sometimes weeks, and after a while all I'm really thinking about is basically a series of "if I do X, will this do Y" type questions and if it does all that, I'm done and it moves on to the next stage (which is, in a proper environment, a code review, but code reviews usually aren't there to find bugs, they're there to enforce style). We're at the very, very end of this, when the beta team is finding bugs, sending them back to the devs, and the devs are fixing them. Bugs are weird in that sometimes you find the cause immediately and sometimes it takes a while, and on top of that sometimes a fix for one issue causes a totally different one and then you have to fix that. Markus/Andreas/etc. are sitting up at the top and have determined that the main bug-quashing process should take until April 23; maybe it'll be done a couple days sooner and everyone can take a little break until it's released to the public and the number of found issues increases by orders of magnitude (which is nothing against the beta team, it's just waaay more eyes looking at things), maybe they'll be working until a couple hours before the release (hopefully not though). But they're not done with the process yet and that's why the game isn't being released.

Is there a list of the new features somewhere yet? Time management is an issue with me as well...
Also, on a side-note, I'm assuming somewhere there is a pinned thread with the origin story for OOTP? As an American kid that grew up in Sweden in the 70s, and missed baseball terribly until I realized they actually had baseball around, found the only team within 300 miles, and formed an American double play combo with my Dad when I was 15-16, I would LOVE hearing about how Markus came to create the best baseball game of all time in Germany- how did the interest begin? If someone could direct me to a post that goes into this, I would be grateful... Thanks Swede |

I'm always impressed with the level of realism OOTP strives to achieve.
Real baseball was late this year, so what does OOTP do? Delay the release to match real life. What a great company, getting the details right speaks volumes about their dedication.
