Week of May 21st, 1946
May 23rd, 1946
Sammamish Rightfielder, Al Zarilla, went 3 for 5 with two, two-baggers, 4 riblets, and 2 runs during the Lions smashmouth 14-7 win over the Woodinville Cougars. I mean, not the best line I’ve ever seen, and probably not worthy of a highlight – but, I get a kick out of typing two, two-baggers, and I like his name. And, based on his real-life stats, we’ll likely be hearing more from him as this save continues. May 27th, 1946 Issaquah’s RF Ron Northey took home the PoTW honors – he hit 11 for 22 with 5 RBIs in 6 games – I mean, that’s cool… I guess. Here are the current team power rankings for Major League Baseball: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Bothell Brainiacs (114.7, o) 2) Issaquah Pinks (105.5, ++) 3) Lynnwood Devils (103.5, +) 4) Renton Roosters (96.2, -) 5) Shoreline Streetcars (92.0, +) 6) Snoqualmie Killer Bees (90.7, --) 7) Woodinville Cougars (84.3, +) 8) Sammamish Lions (83.3, --) 9) Bellevue Players (75.8, -) 10) Redmond Scholars (54.1, o) Renton starting to unravel a little bit… their fans are jumping off the bandwagon like rats from a sinking ship – or, so I’ve been told. This is GREAT ! I have been trying to somehow get to something like this for years. On the Whatifsports website I have started leagues in which players must have won no awards - No HOF, no Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, no All-Stars, no Gold Glove etc. and they are fun to see who plays well and becomes a league leader.
But I have been dying to create my own solitaire league here using OOTP and replay baseball history. I think your picking the cut off of 55 is genius. That was the missing element. I know what I'm doing today. Thanks ! and enjoy. |

May 28th - June 3rd, 1946
@italyprof - it's been fun... I have had to keep players that I "retire" on a shortlist as they sometimes come back in the offseason. Which is weird.
@Syd Thrift - 2023, or bust... May 30th, 1946 Huge performance from Lynnwood’s SP Dave Koslo today as he twirled a complete game, 2-hit shutout masterpiece that included TEN STRIKEOUTS during a 1-0 win against the visiting Redmond Scholars. Devils 1B Rudy York went yard in the bottom of the 6th to put Lynnwood up for good (his 5th of the year) and backup 2B, Bloodworth, got some burn in this one as he came in late to play a little defense at 2B since, as we’ve previously discussed, Starter Frankie Gustine, is a bit suspect in that department. May 31st, 1946 Dance and rejoice, people of the earth… we’ve FINALLY got our second GRAND SLAM of this save in the books – your boy, Snoqualmie legend, and Ohio’s native son, Hank Edwards hit a GRAND SLAM to lead the Killer Bees to a 7-3 win over Sammamish and finished the day with a stellar 4 for 4, 1 HR, 6 RBI, and 1 BB line. Edwards is one of the best (read – highest rated) players in this save and currently leads the league in homers, RBI, slugging %, triples, and total bases. He’s tied for 2nd in WAR. Also, I’d like to add that Bothell’s SP Tiny Bonham put a complete game, 1-hit shutout on the board against Bellevue today – he walked 2 and fanned 2 during the lockdown performance and led his club to a tasty 4-0 win over the Players in their house. He’s now pitched 3 complete games in a row, getting the W in each of them for his efforts. And his facegen gives him the look of the type of guy you’d not like to meet down a dark alley late at night on the wrong side of the tracks. June 1st, 1946 Alright, so we’re off and running a bit now given that we officially have our first FULL month in the books as a league… Bothell, despite their ho-hum 5 & 5 performance over their last ten tilts, finds themselves 2 games ahead of the 2nd place Lynnwood Devils (who finished the month on an 8-2 run). The reality though, as much as it pains me to admit it, is that the Renton Roosters have, so far, been the best club in the land – they’ve just not been fortunate. Currently, they find themselves running -4 against the Pyt despite their league-leading +55 rDiff and the fact that they have the #2 ranked offense and pitching staff in the league. By contrast, our leaders in Bothell boast the best pitching staff in the league but have been saddled with a ho-hum offense that is currently ranked 9th in the league – expect them to sink like a rock before this thing is all said and done. Players of the Month… CF Sam Chapman (REN) takes home batter of the month – he hit .388 for the month with 6 ding dongs, 23 RBI, and plated 28 times. SP Ken Raffensberger (BOT) claimed the top hurler honor with a 5-1 record in 6 starts – he fanned 24 and posted an ERA of 1.66 in May. And… because we played some baseball today, know that Woodinville’s Mickey Harris pitched our 4th complete game, 1-hit shutout to become just another hurler who couldn’t bring his no-no bid all the way home… Woodinville won the game against Redmond by a score of 1-0. With the loss, the Redmond Scholars fall to 12-32 and have seemingly penciled themselves in as the consensus favorite to finish at the bottom of the 1946 table. June 3rd, 1946 CF Leon Culberson, of your Sammamish Lions, the Kings of Suburbia as it were, took home some shiny new hardware to display on his mantle as he was named the MLB player of the week after finishing 13 of 26 at the plate with 2 ding dongs and 7 RBIs during 7 games of work. So, who leads the Major League Baseball in extra-base hits? Hank Edwards, SNO, 25 Sam Chapman, REN, 23 Leon Culberson, SAM, 20 Pat Seerey, LYN, 20 Don Kolloway, WOO, 19 Here are the current team power rankings for Major League Baseball: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Bothell Brainiacs (113.0, o) 2) Lynnwood Devils (109.0, +) 3) Issaquah Pinks (104.0, -) 4) Shoreline Streetcars (97.0, +) 5) Snoqualmie Killer Bees (91.0, +) 6) Renton Roosters (88.0, -) 7) Sammamish Lions (87.0, +) 8) Woodinville Cougars (87.0, -) 9) Bellevue Players (71.0, o) 10) Redmond Scholars (53.0, o) Tough week for Renton… good week for Shoreline – I CAN DIG IT! Also, the Eastside is sad right now... |

June 4th - June 10th, 1946
June 10th, 1946
Ahh, a rather ho-hum week of individual performances – hell, I almost highlighted a walk-off single but thought better of it. Bothell’s Frank McCormick drilled 14 hits in 22 at-bats and no home runs on his way to posting a .636 average. He also knocked in 4 runs and scored 6 times. Your boy is doing his level best to improve Bothell’s offensive standing in the league – currently, after finishing in 9th for total offense back when we closed out May, they are still ranked… 9th on the League Batting Stats table. I mean, good on ya, Frankie – we appreciate the effort. So, which starting pitchers are leading the Major League Baseball in complete games? Ken Raffensberger, BOT, 8 Bill Bevens, SHO, 7 Mickey Haefner, RED, 7 Jack Kramer, LYN, 7 Phil Marchildon, SHO, 7 Yup – Raffy is a stud. Here are the current team power rankings for Major League Baseball: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Renton Roosters (109.4, ++) 2) Bothell Brainiacs (107.4, -) 3) Issaquah Pinks (104.4, o) 4) Lynnwood Devils (104.4, -) 5) Sammamish Lions (101.3, +) 6) Shoreline Streetcars (90.8, -) 7) Woodinville Cougars (87.2, +) 8) Snoqualmie Killer Bees (77.7, --) 9) Bellevue Players (67.6, o) 10) Redmond Scholars (49.9, o) Also, some baseball was played today… Slim Willard Marshall, of the Snoqualmie Killer Bees, is now the proud owner of the second-highest individual game score for a batsman so far this season – he went 3 for 6 with a triple, 2 long balls, 8 RBIs, 4 runs, and a walk during his clubs complete annihilation of the Redmond Scholars by a score of 20-1. Elbie Fletcher, whose patience would seem to rival that of Taffy Wright, tied the regular-season record for most walks in a game at 4. Actually, Elbie is much more patient as he has already drawn 48 walks (almost one per game) to Taffy’s 27. |
