But wait! What if 1,000+ pitches is an outlier? What if he normally only throws 500-600 pitches per outing?
Now he starts regressing more to the norm and isn't as much of an attraction. (I'm pretty sure I heard Goose Gossage say he threw that many pitches one time. Or did he say several times?)
You can see how that would dampen his appeal.
Then, one day, he's nearing a miniscule 350 pitches and hears a loud "CRACK". He immediately turns to the center field fence expecting to watch the ball sail over it, so engrained is that sound in his mind, when he suddenly realizes that the noise came from his elbow and was louder than the usual protestations his arm and shoulder air.
He glances toward the dugout and a shocked skipper makes his way to the mound. For the first time in his career, Torrealba suggests it might be time to take him out of a game. The manager faints. The pitching coach is summoned by the catcher as his boss is revived.
The call is made to the BP. Torrealba is booed off the mound and a legend dies.
Tragic.
Maybe I won't pursue a trade for him.

I was looking around the leagues in the game, and started playing a simulation season in spanish league.

And against the same team i lost 3-65 in preseason, 8-130 in regular season and 5-250 in play offs, against the same team. My team was Marlins and lost to Rivas.

But the most amazing performance was a pitcher throwing 1248 pitches !

No, I agree, something is whacked. In the low minors in an online league we are seeing crazy results as well. Not 250-5 crazy but 83-6 and a pitcher allowing 746 hits in 140 IP with a 40.12 ERA for the season.

Not sure you guys missed what Cool mentioned, but if this is true, something might really be going-on.

We can take a look at this but I think what might be going on is that we may need need to increase the roster slots for leagues allowing small roster limits, like the Spanish League, which if I read correctly is where that's happening. It sounds like the teams are just running out of pitchers.

The real life leagues, the teams might have only 4-5 pitchers on their rosters including a few that are two-way players, and 20 man overall rosters, which the OOTP ai might struggle a bit with, especially if we're using fictional schedules in those leagues with the games much closer together than they actually are in real life.

For the OP, or anyone else running into this, can you upload your league files where this happened and let me know once you do so we can take a look at what might've caused it? Thanks!

In the meantime, I'd suggest if you're playing in the small Euro leagues, that you might want to increase roster limits to 25 or so with 11+ pitchers in the ai settings, and then I would think this should stop happening.

Now being serious. I only started standar game. Enable challenge mode (so i could get a pt pack), selected only spanish league and simulated all season.

When i have a chance i will repeat all over again and try to upload league files

I just ran a Spanish League season, leaving all settings at default. One game, but only one, had a ridiculous score. On July 14, 2020, Rivas slaughtered Antorcha Valencia 165-39 in the final game of the championship series. The first two games of the series were blowouts, too -- 15-3 and 27-11.

Skimming through the rest of the season, I saw nothing so horrendous, but there were a few apparent anomalies, which I'll look at more closely when I have spare time for them.

15-3, 27-11, especially in a lower level league is not something that's concerning, just par for the course really.

It's more just the 165-39 games. But pretty sure that the issue is what I mentioned, teams not having enough pitchers on the roster, especially to deal with several back to back games. Which would be why you see the really high scoring game at the end of a championship series with some other blowouts before, the previous blowouts exhausted the bullpen and the last one is when things broke.

The OP sent in some files, and we'll check them out and see for sure though. The solution will probably be some combination of changing the hook/stamina settings for the league and allowing more pitchers on the rosters. Having the real life schedule for the league would help too, if we don't already. I'll have to check.
