Years ago there were a couple of issues in online leagues I was involved in. In one, the commissioner rewarded players with talent boosts for exports, writing articles etc. In another, due to the fast pace of the league injuries were turned off. In both cases, Markus told the commissioners involved that the talent system of the game was affected by excess talent boosts and that boosting 1 player would cause the game to correct and cause another player to decline. In the second case, it was explained that injuries were an integral part of maintaining the overall talent of the league. The result was that even though no player would be injured they would play as if the were injured. So, in the first case GMs would know which players suddenly declined, but in the 2nd case would have no clue why their 95 power hitter got 2 HRs all season. In PT, teams are stacked and injuries are turned off. So, despite what the ratings are on the surface, the underlying talent distribution is the same as ever, but you as GM have no idea who is bad and who is good. I hope I'm wrong about this, but it just logically stands to reason that every team cannot be A++ at every position and have every player in the game perform to the ratings they have.

I think the ratings do matter but some of the fluctuations between a card performing well and performing awful is pretty huge at times.

I am a believer in patience. If I believe I have good players then I just let them play. I will almost never swap out and underperforming player, assuming that they will recover. My Orlando Cepeda card started out the first day with absolutely horrid numbers, including a sub .200 BA. I just stayed the course and now he is back up to around .280 I think.

Something that I seemed to notice, especially in beta, is that many times when I swapped a player, they would start off AWFUL. If it was a pitcher they got shelled. If it was a batter they would go hitless. That is when I decided to be far more patient in making moves.

I play the same. You might be missing those players' hot streaks if you remove them. I was about to dump my Kris Bryant card because he was OPS'ing under .500 yesterday. I checked today and he's up to .724. He's been on fire. And I almost replaced him with Machado yesterday.
