Yeah I am. I'm going to keep working with them but I can't put a finger on why my numbers are so messed up. When I was the Cubs I had Mark Bellhorn hitting almost .400 up until the all-star break.

Bear, don't know why your numbers are so messed up but here is my Cubs starting rotation 68 games into my current season.
I do play out all games myself. I would say these #'s are pretty realistic. My hitters #'s look just as good to me. Name........... G.. GS.. W.. L.. SV.. ERA.. IP... ..HA.. R.. ER.. BB.. K J. Cruz ........13.. 13... 8.. 4... 0... 2.36. 91.2 ..65. 28. 24 ..31. 88 J. Vazquez ..14.. 14... 7.. 5... 0... 3.33 100.0. 88. 41. 37.. 24. 72 K. Wood..... 13 ...13.. 7... 2 ...0.. 3.03.. 95.0.. 59. 32. 32. 34. 95 M. Prior .......15.. 15.. 6... 2... 0... 2.80 109.1.. 77 41.. 34. 21. 97 J. Anderson ..9 ...8.... 6... 2.. 0.... 3.35 51.0... 52. 21.. 19. 23. 20 Chipper Jones .299\23 HR's Corey Patterson .296\8 HR's Just a couple of examples but the others look just as good IMO. I signed Jones as a FA. Had to move Sosa as he was no longer interested in playing for my team. I traded him to Toronto for Jose Cruz Jr and a 25 yr old CFer. This career was started under v4 with Rolen17's first ootp4 roster.

Both with OOTP4 and 5 I play each game. I always play in the challenge/manager mode with an initial draft to start each season.
My experience over 3-4 seasons tends to be pretty darn realistic. Hot streaks/slumps both in pitching and hitting occur. Good players have bad days and vice versa with marginal players. I opt for pitching over power hitting all the time. My results show that my team ERA is always amongst the leaders and my slugging and home run totals are always in the bottom third. I also really enjoy the variety of results over the course of the season for players. Good players can have a range of great to average years. Average players vary between poor and good. Some perform exactly as you would expect. The big variable are injuries. Just as in real life....can have big effects one way or the other on a team's potential. OOTP5 is not perfect...but it is darn good given all the hours I spent with it. When some slight inconsistencies show up, .... I tend to chalk it up to a real life situation that has quirks also. Only two things I have on my wish list: Pitch-by-pitch play along with pitchers having various ratings for the types of pitches they have in their arsenal. Managerial heaven. |

Are you guys having trouble stealing bases in the play mode? I have a A/B and an A/A guy on my team and I'm like 25% for the year. I usually only run on guys with a C or lower arm.

I assumed the same engine is used for playing at simming, the difference being that when playing you can see what is happening and can make decisions that the computer AI would otherwise make for you.
If I'm putting myself at an unfair disadvantage by playing out games then the whole appeal of the game disappears for me. I have been wondering about this, because my non-too-shabby batting lineup is 28th in averages at .250! Eckstein Kearns Giambi Soriano Dunn Lofton Larocca Bard |

Just going from memory Patterson in my game is A-A and I would say he's something like 18-5 stealing.

Just finished my Cubs season #1. Sosa finished the year hitting .191 with 34 homeruns. I understand having an off year in homeruns, but batting average? Sosa would never hit .191 for a whole season. So I'm going to conclude when playing that it's not very realistic.

Sosa also finished with 504 at bats and 232 strike outs.

It's hard to prematurely judge a game that has so many factors involved. My previous post spoke of OOTP4 and I still believe that since i played 20 seasons. But in the season and a half I'v played OOTP5 I do not see these differences. In fact the pitcher at the bottom of my rotation just completed his 35th straight inning only giving up 1 run with an average of 4 hits per game. He had a 28 inning streak going of no runs. thats 3 complete games and an 8 inning game. My pitchers EN is set to normal and he's B. He's 5 avoiding runs 3 against rightys and 6 against lefties. 2 and a half star pitcher. Back to the point. Neither the homeruns or the pitching seem different in OOTP5 from sim to play. But then again i'v only played 1 and a half seasons.

His rating didn't drop from what I know. And I sat him often because he was doing so bad and everytime he did get tired. I tried everything from moving around the lineup to benching him. Other players seemed to have bad years too. I just can't hit, my high average was Choi at .282. My team hit .220. I hadn't made any trades so I'm basically playing with GForces V1 rosters.

I have noticed this issue, the computer opponent seems to have the ole rubber band AI going for it. I play out every game and I notice this at least 90% of the time. As far as my stats, they seem fairly accurate. The pitcher strikeouts seem slightly high. |

There is absolutely no comeback code in the game.

But what about if you use the mouse rather than the keyboard?
Oh, wait we've been through that.

Well, I don't play all the games from one team but jump around from team to team, and usually control both teams when I'm playing a game to make it fair. In OOTP2 and OOTP3 especially I used to notice some amazing improbable comebacks, it wasn't that uncommon for a team to score 5 or 6 runs in the 9th inning against a good pitcher(who had thrown a lot of pitched but wasn't "red" tired). I notice this happened less often in OOTP4 and it seems to be even more realistic in OOTP5.

Markus has said on numerous occasions that there is no comeback code. As a beta tester I have had extensive experience with the game. For both of these reasons, I can say with certainty that it doesn't exist.

If the computer has a comeback, there is comeback code.

Bear, Your first post on this was on 3/17 in which you were 48 games into a season. You posted your season ending numbers the very next day. My question is, how in the world did you play out over 100 games in 1 day?
