I've been playing for 12 versions now I think. I spend the majority of the time that I am watching shows with the wife playing OOTP at the same time. I get a few games in at intermission of hockey games and I will generally play while watching the Jays.

Now that football is over, I see a lot of lazy Sunday mornings playing as well until the weather warms up here.

I bring my laptop with me on work trips and vacations and always get some time in then as well.

I play out every game, and I have finally got a league that I am happy with after quite a few where I started, got several years in and didn't like the set-up.

My league now is 30 teams, 6 divisions of 5, fictional, and based around the Great Lakes. No city can be further than a 6 hour drive from a Great Lake. So the compass points where teams are located are as follows, with every other city located inside this boundry:

- SW - Quad Cities, Iowa
- W Minneapolis
- NW - Thunder Bay (also the furthest north)
- NE - Montreal (also the furthest east)
- SE a line from Montreal to Pittsburgh (encompasses Rochester and Syracuse and I think Albany may be a minor league team)
S - Cincinnati (though I think Louisville may be an AAA team)

All minor league teams are near to their parent teams so the minor leagues mirror the parent league.

Can I count the hours spent researching conditions of fictional leagues and tinkering with XML files? I'm not sure how many hours I've spent, and I truly don't see it as a waste in any sense of the word. I continue to find more value and depth in the game experience every time I play. On that note, in case anyone else was worried about the value of your time spent gaming: Fear not, you are literally saving the world.

This year has been 275 hours. That's more than usual, but I started a long time ago, so I'm likely in the 3000 hour range.

The Good Lord has truly blessed me abundantly... I've got a few years on you... will be 77 in April.

Just keep on trucking... and just keep on playing magnificent OOTPB.

One of the keys to life that I've found is never lose your inner child. Do the things you love and don't be ashamed of them (unless they are seriously harmful stuff).
A few words of wisdom for you youngsters... oldsters, too.

Be sure you have some hobbies when you retire... don't retire to do nothing... watching TV really gets old very quickly.

Thank goodness, I have "childish" pursuits like listening to music, playing OOTPB and watching movies and old TV series... some new ones, too.

My philosophy of life:

Put a smile on your face... a lot of love in his heart... don't hurry... don't worry... and most of all... remember to stop and smell the roses.

Please forgive me for getting off topic.

I included all the research and setting up of leagues... creating logos, jerseys, caps... collecting stadiums... any time I spent related to OOTPB, I included in my guesstimate... when I was on the Beta Team, I spent 10-12 hours a day for months at a time... I arrived at my guesstimate using 5 hours a day.

Immersion is everything in OOTPB.

Not ashamed to admit it, but my dream vacation is to go to Ruthlandia and Tycobbia... the two countries that make up my fictional Dynasty League, the Islandian Pro Alliance.

How's that for immersion!

Really didn't mean to derail the thread but I just have to say, that hurrying part is something I really struggle with. I'm always in a hurry to do everything.

That's when I retired... my life has been pretty much OOTPB, music collecting, music listening, watching movies and old TV shows on Netflix... and of course, spending a lot of time with my wonderful wife... also traveling to all the MLB ballparks and many, many minor league parks, too... we have only three more MLB to go... Washington, new San Diego and new Miami.
Baltimore is my favorite new ballpark... Phoenix is really nice... so are Seattle... San Francisco... Pittsburgh... Philadelphia.
Fenway and Wrigley are special for historic reasons... but not comfortable.
New Yankee Stadium is not as good as the Old Yankee Stadium.
Toronto is the worst ballpark... really dingy and dirty... but have really nice fans.

Sorry for the digression... need to get back on topic.

OOTPB is a dream come true for me... I played APBA baseball in the early 1950's using player cards and outcome boards... kept all stats by hand... and dreamed about the day when I wouldn't have to spend so much time on the stats.

Lo and behold, my dream came true in August 2002 when I came across OOTP3.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Markus.
Interesting stuff. I found quite a few retirees here and when baseball mogul offered online leagues. Glad you fit your wife in as well.

I'm 32 and the exact same. My sister is your age and the exact same. You're good.

Enough that I could have written several novels by now. I'll just leave it there.
