just in case you see players you have no idea how they got there: if you do a database purge, i belive this can be a cause also. i know it happened in '16 at the least.
the re-used ID will show up again on your list. |

Yes, I have seen that happen, particularly if you are tracking a minor league player and you have the option set to "Delete players who never make the major leagues." If the player never makes it, he gets deleted. The game recycles unused player ID numbers and his number may stick in the shortlist, assigned to somebody else.
