I sim spring training, play all regular season games out. Biggest thing I try to do in spring training, is train some of the players at different or new positions.

I sim a week at a time, usually without a full complement of players (so like 40 instead of 60) because of the lack of extra games. (I really hope ootp18 adds extra ST games--I think that's something MLB/Historical folks would use a lot, and help fiction at same time.)

I set up three depth charts, each starting every third day. I put 6 men in the rotation and have "use more often" for any pitcher on the bubble, you know, your AAAA guys.

After 1 week, I cut anyone the AI isn't using at all who I don't plan to take north, trusting them to know who's a total scrub.
After 2 weeks, I cut down again, usually going to every other day play, and adjusting the "use more often guys"
After 3 weeks, I cut anyone I know I'm not keeping, save a 3rd catcher.
After 4 weeks, I "set" my roster, and give them the final week to get in tune/adjust batting order.

Then I either play out OR sim month to month, depending on my mood. Last year, I was big on playing out. This year, at the tail end of my OOTP 16 usage, I was simming again, because I got tired of hitting "1" for a bit. we'll see how 17 goes.

My preference is GM only, so all games are simmed.

I play out all Spring Training games, then sim the season and playoffs.

Watching/reading the game play out is really addicting as a gm.

I set it to maximum length, set the roster to maximum length, then call up anyone and everyone with a potential of 50 or better, and they start every game until the final 10. Doesn't matter if they were in the GCL, or Appy, or wherever, they play ML ST. When there's 10 games left, they all go down to their various clubs, and the regulars play the final 10 to tune up for the regular season.

I sim ST tho. I could never play them all out. Just hearing reporting on ST drives me bonkers IRL. I can't imagine.
