Just change the 1s to 0s in the Career Ending Possible Bool in the injuries.txt file. There are only seven or eight injuries in there that feature immediate career ending possibilities. It's 100% easy. I've been doing it since I first got OOTP I think. I still get career ending injuries, but only after one or more setbacks. No immediate ones with this method.

It is more realistic because players ratings can be affected by injury anyway, and so they may never perform as they did beforehand.

Realistic Injury Spread
Yup only problem I have with injuries are the CEI. I currently remove them in the editor (turning them into learn term setbacks) but it would be cool if this was changed by default.

I think they still should be in the game, just not immediate. After one or more setbacks sure, but YMMV.

Realistic Injury Spread

Yea I am taking about instant CEI. There are some injuries in the file that will cause instant CEI. Maybe keep those for injuries that cause someone to become paralyzed. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 02-21-2016 at 03:19 PM. |

Just out of curiosity...has any professional player ever been paralyzed after sustaining an on-field injury?

Idk but Thurman Munson would have been paralyzed had he survived the crash. There certainly are cases where a player gets instant cei's like paralysis or death but it's not represented in ootp well

Well, John Dodge and Ray Chapman died on the field after being hit by pitches. Lyman Bostock was shot in the parking lot of a stadium. I have no idea about paralysis though. Hmm.

Yes, I could see someone dying after getting pelted in the head by a fastball.

...Cory Hahn was paralyzed during the third game of his college baseball career, but I can't find any MLBers who were paralyzed on field. Off field there was Campy.

) remember a situation where I lost 2 starting pitchers to season-ending injuries in the playoffs. Could that happen? Yes. But "in real life," a team would do everything in its power, short of obviously endangering a guy's career, to try to 'massage' a crucial starting pitcher through a postseason injury. Especially given the roster restrictions. In other words -- an injury that might be season-ending in the regular season might not be season-ending in the playoffs, all things being equal, because the cost-benefit calculus is different. I don't feel OOTP is geared to make any fine distinctions here. I play with "realistic" injury setting, and I definitely feel OOTP gets the *frequency* of injuries correct. But I think how OOTP handles injuries could still be fine-tuned. - The out-of-nowhere "BAM - Career Over!" type injuries should be far less frequent than they currently are. As others have said, it would be more realistic if CEIs were the end result of an evolving process (I know OOTP does this to some extent, with the "Injury worsens - career over!" headlines) -- but what I seldom (never?) have seen is something like a Grady Sizemore or Milton Bradley scenario, where a guy with promising talent both spends long stretches on the DL -- full seasons -- but then bounces around with different teams, still gets injured, spends time in the minors etc. I know that's a lot to ask! But seems to me that in OOTP once a player gets the dreaded "Wrecked" status, he usually soon winds up a free-agent who is never picked up and retires. - I'd love to see a greater incidence of Day to Day injuries at the expense of a few "Out!" injuries. My sense -- and again, 'sample size,' I know -- but my sense is that the incidence of day to day injuries in OOTP is definitely too low, and the game seems to privilege the Injured = Out idea. I don't get the sense that players play hurt enough in OOTP, the way they do all the time in MLB. For OOTP it seems a little to black and white. In short I'd love to see OOTP factor a greater amount of DTD injuries in its injury frequency calculations, and a little less DL-bound injuries. OK -- sorry for the wall of text. Haven't really been thinking about OOTP for a while but excited now for 17! |
