It was pretty sad last year one night there were more people in Québec City to watch a semi-pro (I think) league game than in Montréal to watch the Expos.

ya, well.... I also know that if Montreal really cared they would have started showing up when rumours of the team moving came up instead of just bitching about it.
Since the rest of Canada loathes toronto why not just follow suit and call them the Yankees.

Actually in June-July this season 20-25k was the standard for Montréal home games. Not bad for a team that averaged 10k for 2 years before.
There have been rumours of moving since 1995, it's nothing new. Curiously, unlike Phil suggests, attendance figures dropped then when players such as John Wetteland, Larry Walker, Marquis Grissom, Jeff Fassero, Ken Hill, Pedro Martinez, Moises Alou, Darren Fletcher, Sean Berry, Cliff Floyd, (then good) Carlos Perez, Mark Grudzielanek and Mike Lansing left for other skies. Add that to the botched stadium project, the successive ownership jokes (Brochu? No one? Loria? MLB?), the screwjob of the 1994 strike and multiple other stupidities, how can you really blame Montréal fans? I feel really stupid to still be faithful and go to the stadium.
