Seriously, the fielding stats are not on BBRef prior to about 1925 or so. Therefore, they're having to be hand input from Spaulding guides from 1903-1924 or so.

A lot of work, but I want as much information driving this database as possible. This is the last true grouping of tedious work and I would think this thing will be as statistically accurate as it possibly can be, given the years we are dealing with.

Well better you than me as far as tedium goes.

FYI: Tedium goes nearly 330 miles before it gets bored and stops in Far, TN.

Fielding stats are completed up through 1909. After further review, it seems I only will need to go through 1918 with fielding input, so I'm halfway there.

With any luck, I can finish this over the weekend.

I'm hoping you'll have something soon, Tony. Its in the hands of Spritze now. I believe he has everything completed but the fielding.csv and now has the information he asked for in order to complete that file.

I'm up for the International League now that the PCL is winding down. The best I can tell, the IL's days prior to becoming a true MINOR league of MLB are from 1912-1945.

Any IL experts out there that possess another point of view?

After the fielding.csv is done I'll still need to add all the additional OOTP12 specific files and fields not included in the Lahman ones or on BBref or Retro-Sheet or nowheres else. That is the work part from my end.

Wow, great undertaking here! Not much database knowledge here, but I'm several OOTP versions behind. What files and fields are OOTP12 specific? If I wanted to use this in an earlier version, what would I need to do? Or is that mountain too high?

Regardless, big thank you to all involved!

Medium-High Mountain - many new and revamped fields necessary to get the league to import in ver 12.

To use it in another version you would need to delete the extra fields from Pitching, Master and Fielding csv's that don't match the earlier versions. Things were added for later versions but nothing has been taken away.

UPDATE:

I am having to enter fielding stats for all pitchers from 1916-1940. Spritze has sent me scanned copies of this information from Spalding Guides from each year. Its just a matter of entering this data into the extensive spreadsheet that has sprung from this effort.

That is what's causing the delay. I am a good third of the way complete and hope to finish this weekend. I believe this is the last piece of the puzzle before the db can be created. I feel like, when completed, it will be a very good representation of the PCL years since there is very little information that has not been either pasted or hand entered over all this time.

1929-40 remain to input. Roughly about 4 hours of work, so this should definitely be to Spritze this weekend for final creation.

I'm just now realizing that this thread is here.

It was sort of fun to work on for my part, in an extremely geeky way. I can't wait to see how the final product looks.

CooleyVol: Still patiently waiting on your stats update of updated stats that needed updating with the missing teams and years.

Ctorg's got it?

Updateificationalismness for an approx ETA would be apprecible as I'm vacating soon to "the dark continent". No Internet in Kumasi unless I create it from scratch or find an Internet Kafe' that allows "obruni Bob Marley" access.

I always introduce myself as "obruni Bob Marley", it even makes the guys in fatigues with the AK-47's smile. They all get it. The persona has gotten me through more than one checkpoint.
