That seems to be what almost all of us want in any of the baseball games we play. Puresim is by no means perfect. I don't even know which game will win to keep a place on my own computer long term. All I know now is that for the last 3 months I have probably played Puresim for 200+ hours and OOTP 0. I keep watching to see what OOTP is planning, but as this thread shows feedback from the OOTP team has been non existant. THAT is one of the reasons I have been giving Puresim a fair chance to get my vote.

A couple of the things I think Puresim does better is: getting to play base coach by selecting when players tag up / take an extra base, better feedback for defensive great plays and bad plays (not errors), seems to be a little more accurate for batters performance for historical players. |

Unfortunately I have no idea how to prompt the OOTP team to give better info as to what is going on. I would like to know what is planned for OOTP 11 like everyone else here. I do own 10 and haven't ruled out upgrading, but it sure is nice to have the developer's ear playing Puresim. One reason I posted my message here was to show players there are alternatives. The other is that I hope it puts a little pressure on the OOTP team to be a little more up front with what is going on for OOTP 11. My post isn't stearing the converstaion away from the original post any more than they get sidetracked in a lot of threads!!

Having not played PureSim for ages, I'm actually pretty surprised at what they still don't have in the game. Many of things are features I take for granted in OOTP.

)It's great that Markus is open to suggestions, but it seems like every year there are literally hundreds--maybe even thousands--of ideas tossed around. Some are extremely popular and get discussed ad nauseum and even brought up again in new threads dozens of times over. Others get posted once and are never mentioned again. Some of these are terrific ideas that just get lost in the shuffle. It's implied that every suggestion gets logged somewhere, but I'm not always so certain some don't fall through the cracks. What I like about the $100 (pts.) idea is that it gives us a chance to not just vote Yes or No on a feature, but a way to show which features we actually value, compared to others. It would be fascinating to me to see what features the OOTP community would spend their allotted hundred on! And if I were Markus, I'd imagine I would be extremely interested in seeing this kind of feedback from my customers before starting work on a new version.

I agree and I think a lot of us have hoped at many times in the past to see something like that for OOTP. We have at least once or twice, but IIRC it was only a simple poll on the boards here and without being able to rank our preferences (what I thought would work well) or weight them (like Shaun's idea which sounds even better), a regular yes or no poll really doesn't tell you much.
I'd want to think of my favourite requests more (18 choices are far too few IMO to pick from), but I think at the moment for OOTP I'd say: 20$ on each of: -expanded playoff options -league "associations" (I forget what it all entails, but I'm sure some of you know what I'm referring to) -user-defineable stats -interface customizeability (being able to create my own toolbar shortcuts, decide what stats get displayed in the mini stat tables, etc) -fix bugs / improve already existing features I'd also agree with you that probably far too many requests don't get nearly the attention that they deserve. Someone elsewhere recently said something to the effect that there's not much else you could add to OOTP (besides graphics). To that I respectfully say, "nonsense!". There's probably hundreds of great requests that have already been posted. Markus could probably spend the next decade on adding them alone without fixing bugs, adding graphics, tweaking the AI or any of the other usual requests. Not that that's going to happen, nor should it, just that I think that there's probably that many worthy requests.

Puresim is a nice game. But it does not come close to OOTP in many many areas. And after reading about its sales numbers (260 copies since release last October), I realized that we do a lot of things right with OOTP and we should only from time to time look over our shoulders and not get worked up over statements like 'XY is a better game'.
Anyway, there will be announcements, screenshots and a preorder period coming for OOTP 11 very soon, so stay tuned

And so far, we have done a great job with selecting the new features for each version, otherwise we wouldn't be where we are

Robc,
I know this, as well as most of the off topic posts here, will be deleted but hey I'm an OOTP fanboy. You are saying that feedback from OOTP is nonexsistent yet you purchased puresim from a company that loves to annouce game after game after game an then says nothing about it. Wolverine studios and greydog software are by far worse with communication then ootp. Greydog to me is the worst. Now I heard shaun is very active in the forums and hopefully he won't follow the rest of wolverine studios and barely talk. Now all this is just what I think and in the end I believe that unless you have been on the beta for both puresim AND ootp no one knows exactly who is better at communicating. |

For me, many of the features OOTP has that Puresim doesn't just aren't very important. I like playing historical players in an American major league setup. I don't play online, etc... There are some OOTP features I wish Puresim had (free agency, more involved minor leagues, tracking a bit more stats, like career L/R splits). In any case, thanks for sharing your opinion. Participation is good.

All Puresim players have access to the beta versions and can participate if they want to. The thing is, I don't want to have to join a beta team to get information how things are going. I think it should just be made public.

! I do think OOTP is a good game and it surely is feature rich. I am only interested in its portrayal of American MLB, so a lot of the extra options don't do anything for me. I do like OOTP's player contract handling better (free agency, etc). Puresim has some options that make it more fun in some areas (having input to when players tag up, being told when a player's defensive ratings made them make a great play or not get to a ball they should have, having the play-by-play only contain relevant info instead of the 'radio broadcast' extras). The in game management just seems more engaging. As a former software developer of about 15 years, I do have to say I am impressed with what you have done. I've tried to get up the motivation to make a game (Possibly baseball) and jus don't have the drive. I look foward to seeing what OOTP 11 is about. Sharing information more frequently would go a long way to keeping your customers happy. |
