Today's update.
Interesting discussion of 'Iron Pigs' and how that was reviled at a similar point in the naming process and is now at the top of the marketing world--minor league version. Owners stick by finalists in name-the-team contest | Richmond Times-Dispatch And CNBC is in the game, in a way.

That reminds me of when the runner-up for the Northwest Arkansas team name was Thunder Chickens. Wish they would have chosen that over Naturals.

Since nobody else said it, I'll comply - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Nothing could be worse than the Kannapolis Intimidators. Ugh, I still can't believe a baseball team named themselves after a NASCAR driver. Personally, I would have stuck with the Virginians. But apparently I'm not part of the ownership group. |

There is a commercial in NC for a new 'WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' scratch off lottery ticket where Ric Flair and some old lady basically get into a WOO war. I see it all the time. I guess it's on the brain.
Yes, there is a Ric Flair lottery ticket. A baseball team named after him is only a natural progression I think. They could wear gold velour capes and their abbreviation in box scores would be WOO. /threadjack |

As a fan of aliteration, I think Richmond Rhinos probably sounds the best, although Rock Hoppers works almost as well. (I personally think they should use the name "Rockhoppers" as one word, however.) And honestly, Rockhoppers would probably be best from a marketing standpoint, with a penguin mascot. Of course, there aren't many penguins in Virginia. Not that there are many in Pittsburgh or Youngstown, Ohio, either. But then again, there aren't many Rhinoceroseseses nearby, so... Ah, whatever!

They all suck. I can't even say which ones sucks less than the others. It seems pretty even.

"I also thought it was different to go with a food over an animal. It's kid-friendly, has great mascot possibilities and I'm sure it will be a very popular concession item."
