Go Twins! I'm a fan of any small market team. Here's hoping they can use that money to keep those players around.

I read that to have the same team next year their payroll would have to go from about $40 miullion to $60 million. Mabe Carl Pohlad will spend a little more money.

Ichiro's OPS last year (MVP season) .838 (this year it's a whopping .839) + 56 SB (14 CS) + good defense

Hunter's OPS this year (MVP consideration) .870 + 22 SB (6 CS) + Amazing defense

Last year's Ichiro competition:
Giambi's OPS: 1.127. Defense and stolen bases or not, that absolutely destroys Ichiro.

This year Giambi is one of the leading candidates again and is having a season much worse than last year. So if Hunter is overrated for being CONSIDERED for MVP... what does that make Ichiro?

Just like I have been trying to say, overrated. Thank you for proving my point.

They have very good pitching, excellent defence and adequate offense and would probably have been even better if they had Milton and Radke all year.
Yeah they play in a crappy division and if they played in the West or East their record would be somewhat worse but I think they'd still be in playoff contention.
Being a Detoit Tigers fan, this quote hurts greatly. I remember the (not so good) Twins rolling all four home games against my beloved Tigers that year.

p.s. anyone else just see the end to the diamondbacks/giants game.... great game if i was still a baseball fan

Twins Fan, you do need to get some fresh air, that was what we call tongue in cheek...sheesh you people do take yourselves way to seriously.

I guess I just like messing with your heads. It's all in good fun so please don't get so stressed.

Was Ichiro overratted last year? Some say yes and some say no. I guess it just matters what you want to think....the only imperical evidence says nope he was not overrated...as he won the MVP and made the Mariners (along with Boone and the rest) far better than they were in 2000.

Are the Twins a good ball club because they play in a weak division? I say yes. Does that make me right? Does it really matter?

One of the things I love about baseball is it's unpredictability. Next year the Twins could lose 100 games, you never know, well except that Steinbrenner will buy whatever players he has too to make the Yankees competitive. I wish the Mariners ownership would do some of that, and forget this budget nonsense. YOu either want to win the series or you don't but this budget nonsense is driving plenty of fans up here nuts!

Anybody else see idiocy like this online far too much?

Step 1) Make dumb statements.
Step 2) Wait for people to argue with them.
Step 3) Defend them.
Step 4) Wait for more people to get sucked in.
Step 5) Announce that you were 'just stirring up the pot.'
Step 6) Accuse people of having no sense of humor, and say that
'it's all in good fun.'

Lame. Unoriginal. Pathetic.

Not only lame, original and pathetic...but just silly. I love how people act like they were just playing around when they realize that they've lost an argument.

I'll say this again: M&GFan, read my earlier post in which I did the math based on winning percentage versus other divisions. The Twins would still have almost 80 wins. I noticed no answer or attack on my methodology, just a statement again that "the Twins are a good ballclub because they play in a weak division."

I stand by my statement and honestly you are truly unable to "prove" otherwise!

i think the worse thing to do in these boards is to have a team name (or two) as your board name.

them folks seem to take a lot of heat...

The hot kind.

Just thought I'd contribute to the general idiocy of the thread.

Hmm the Twinkies were they in the AL West would be in ....4TH PLACE!! So that means that because they are in the AL-Triple A Central the are not only in first place but a lock for the playoffs. Gee I dunno does this make my point for me or not??!!! I say it does!!

Riiiiiiiiiight. They would be in 4th, but they wouldn't be out of it OR have the Rangers' record, as you implied. I don't think you're attempting to continue your original argument here.

Also, I don't think it's legit for you to say, "hey, I'm just stirring the pot" and then attempt to further your argument. Either give up because you're wrong, or continue to be wrong and get answered. Pick one.

I never said I was wrong. I just said that I like "stirring the pot". You were the one that inferred that I was wrong and that is only your opinion. So I stand by my argument: The Twins record as it stands today would place them in 4th place in the AL West. Yet they are in first place because they play in a very weak division. You simply cannot refute this statement with any validity!

Happens ALL the time...this was just another example. The thing about the Internet is that anyone can come on and say whatever they want. No accountability, and no having to face people who call you on your ignorance. Weak!

Ok children I will say this only one last time: "Yes I enjoy "stirring the pot" and there is nothing wrong with that, however that does not mean that I think that my argument is wrong, because I don't! I never admitted that, you just assumed that and you know what they say when you assume something!"
