Keenan is suggesting that Burke might want to go get Bert and bring him to Anaheim, that would certainly make the West even more interesting... not sure how effective it would be though.

I really like the Penguins deals, I love San Jose getting Gurien... they're the team to beat now, unless Anaheim pulls off a deal before the deadline.
I just don't know which two (three if you count the return of Nils Ekman within the next week) wingers that they are going to be sending to the minors. Roberts will likely go on the first line with Sid and Recchi, moving Malone to the third line. I'd assume they'll likely send Christensen down to WBS seeing as he's on a two-way contract, though you almost need him just because he does so well on the shootouts. The one I don't get is where they'll end up putting Laraque. Ruutu and Petrovicky are both on one-way contracts, so they'll likely stay up in Pittsburgh. I would like to see a guy like Ouellet sent back to WBS, but he seems to be the coach's pet, so I doubt I'll see him going. If Talbot winds up in WBS, I'll be a bit upset, but I see him as the likely odd man out. I didn't mind the Roberts trade, but I really don't like the Laraque trade. We have no need for a guy like that on this team.

Not that I really have any interest in Hockey, but SJ is the local team. Is Guerin worth a 1st rounder?

Moore to the Wild for a third round pick. Don't like how this is turning out at all. Moore was a pivotal penalty kill guy and is likely the guy out because we picked up Laraque.

Basically it becomes Moore, Carcillo and 8th round pick for Laraque and a third round pick.

Don't like it....

Doesn't matter what anyone thinks except Crosby and his people. They've been asking for this trade, or one like it, all season... and the Penguins would be stupid to start pissing him off already. Either way, the Penguins needed to add a player that could take some of the heat off of Crosby and the other young stars on the team... this accomplishes that.

Keeping in mind that's going to be a mid to low 1st rd pick.. Eh, maybe.

I wish OOTP could simulate teams like the Blues where they trade away rental free agents to be in return for picks and prospects knowing that there is a good chance those players will resign with them next year.

Yes, given what teams have gotten the last few years for 1st rounders Guerin is worth it. He was the best player on the market this year.

mikev, he's probably not as bad as I think he is, but I can assure he's not anywhere near the best player on the market this year. In 61 games 47 points is respectable, but he's just not the Bill Guerin of old. He is 36 after all. When you compare him to the likes of Forsberg who was traded not too long ago, Jagr who Sather has said is on the block, Ryan Smyth?, and even Bertuzzi who was great at the beginning of the year, he's just not close. Then you've got players like Roberts, Tkachuk, Smolinski, and Nagy. That is more where I'd put him albeit maybe at the front of that group. Bottomline is any team would be pleased as punch to get him. It's just a matter of whether you value your first round picks even more.

I think Guerin is a better player right now compared to Roberts... as for Forsberg, Tkachuk, and the like, well they've already been traded. I suppose it appeared like I said the best on the market this deadline period... I meant just before he was traded.

As for Smyth, I still have my doubts that Edmonton is even considering trading him. The Sharks were all over the possibility of getting him and had plenty to offer, them getting Guerin is an indication to me that Edmonton wasn't at all interested.

Zubrus to Buffalo - looks like they are making a last push to win it all this year
Perrault to Toronto

Wings also picked up Calder. Pretty good deadline for us.

I don't think Calder is going to do anything but getting Bertuzzi COULD be absolutely huge.

Crosby and his "people" haven't been asking for this all year, the media and the fans have. And a few other idiots higher up in hockey who think guys like Larouque still have a place in hockey.

This is a dumb trade, period. Might be ok to have him around during the regular season, but he hurts the team in the play-offs. He sure won't provide any offense or defense, which is what you need in the play-offs.

And if you need an example, just look at Carolina. Peter Laviolette doesn't allow his players to fight. Let's see, how did that work out? Oh ya, they won the Cup with that strategy.

The 1st rounder that the Sharks gave up is New Jersey's, which they aqcuired just prior to the beginning of the season.

Either way, Guerin is worth it because it's not a very deep draft this year. The Devils pick as well as San Jose's which they flipped to Montreal in the Rivet deal both figure to be late picks, so definitely a good deal for the Sharks on both fronts.

I've actually heard that the draft is pretty deep this year, just no Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, etc. at the top.
