Yeah, I agree with Colorado. Unfortunately for Dallas, there's no shootout in the playoffs.

I think Edmonton matches up well with a hurt Red Wings team. They're 2-1-1 against Detroit, I think. Detroit is the toughest team in the league, but I'm calling upset.

--

I'm reluctantly calling the Dallas Stars since all my other picks are upsets and I'm a Stars fan. But, this is more my heart than head making the pick since I think we're a paper tiger and we'll be lucky not to be swept. There's no shootouts in the playoffs, after all....

--

Of the four series, I'm MOST CERTAIN that Anaheim will beat Calgary. Calgary scored 218 goals this season. Only Chicago and St. Louis scored fewer. Anaheim might even be the dark horse of the entire playoffs. They work hard and are well rounded, both in roles and in youth/experience. Since the Olympic break, their record is comparable to Dallas'.

--

No Vokoun, no Preds win.

Even though I am a Red Wings fan, I wouldn't be overly shocked if Edmonton pulled the upset.
The Wings are pretty healthy, besides Datsyuk, who will probably just miss one, maybe two games, everyone is a go. The did sit a few guys out towards the end of the year with various injuries, but that was more to give players a rest.

I think the Anaheim - Calgary series will be close, but I would still be surprised if Anaheim won. Calgary just seems to be a team built for the playoffs - great goalie, great defense and a bunch of fast, hard working forwards.

One a side note, hopefully the refs keep calling things like they did in the regular season and they don't let all the clutching and grabbing go.

Of course. The NHL knows it will look very foolish if it doesn't.

They have promised it many, many, many times before, yet the playoffs have ALWAYS been called a little differently than the regular season.
Having said that, no season has been quite as different as this year refereeing wise.

I don't know how much stock you'll want to put in this, but:

Quote:
"My instructions to Colie and to Stephen are if an official puts his whistle away, they should put the official away for the rest of the playoffs," Bettman said.
"How long you work in the playoffs is discretionary. It depends how well you are working. And if a guy decides he's putting the whistle away, then he's done."

I believe him though. At least on this I do.

The only way this series will be an upset is if the Predators win.

Hell of a win for Edmonton today. The mighty Red Wings give up home-ice advantage.

If Dallas wins then every western series will be 1-1. If they don't then they are in humongous trouble.

I'm a huge Predators fan, so I'm hoping we pull off the ipso facto upset.

Looks to be the case. Turco, yet again, is not having a good playoffs. They should get Belfour back.

I maintain Marty Turco's playoff reputation as a choker is highly undeserved.

I submit to you starting goalies in the current playoffs with worse career playoff GAAs and save percentages.

Marty Turco's career playoff GAA: 2.54
That is better than: Ryan Miller (2.71), Martin Gerber (6.33), Jose Theodore (2.60), Dwayne Roloson (2.80), Chris Mason (3.79), Henrik Lundqvist (4.51), Ray Emery (2.78), John Grahame (3.42), and Robert Esche (2.55).

Marty Turco's career SPCT: .892
That is better than: Martin Gerber (.750), Chris Mason (.889), Henrik Lundqvist (.820), and John Grahame (.883. Ryan Miller's is a hair above at .894.

Seeing as I hate all things Detroit, I'll be cheering hard for Edmonton to end the series on Monday.

That being said, I can't believe Detroit is in this position. Yes, I realize Edmonton gave them trouble in the regular season but I never expected this.

Too bad I am about 2000 Red Miles away from Red Mile.

A Calgary win + an Edmonton win = BATTLE OF ALBERTA!

Colorado winning was no surprise at all to me. The last time they brought in a Montreal goalie they did not too bad either.

Amy Grant's comment about Nashville having the greatest fans made me fall on the floor and roll around laughing.
