I agreed with Cowherd when he said that Orton should be benched. However, it ends there. Cowherd says the 'Hall of Fame' is about being 'famous' and it's "Not the Hall of Very Good." While he is right on one part, he believes that media royalty is the biggest factor for hall of famers, AKA not Barry Bonds. He's one of the reasons I'm switching from ESPN Insider to Baseball Prospectus.
That should definitely be a "life changing" experience.

I dont know maybe it's me but i find cowherd funny at times and the most entertaining of the e.sp.n. radio crowd. Mike & Mike the whole jock and metro sexual thing is tired and played out at least to me it seems that way . Dan Patrick isnt bad as long as he has Keith olberman on with him otherwise i find him a little dull .

Oh, good job Steve Phillips on listing your top 40 FA's. You were fired from the Mets for a reason.

I despise Jim Rome. To me he is the overbearing loudmouth that sits by me at every sporting event I attend. I like Cowherd, but I don't take him serious. I think 80 percent of the crap he say's is nonsense, but it is entertaining to listen to him use crazy analogies and metaphors to make his point.
Want to know who is the worst talk radio host ever?-----It is the great Satan himself---Tim Brando. This guy makes my skin crawl. He is so self-rightous. He is transparant, as he constantly ridicules the sports that he no longer is employed by. This guy lives in my hometown and has a reputation as being a total ass. He is a SEC hack and goes out of his way to promote that conference. One thing about Brando that stands out is the fact that he sucks as the halftime host of CBS's college football coverage. He looks like howdy doody with a bad hairpeice. He is such a fake ass loser. |

For some reason, Cowherd has ever struck me one way or the other. Maybe he is bland or I just am not paying attention.
Rome on the other hand is one of the few radio personalities that send me looking for a different station in a hurry. I find the 'talking smack' shtick both lame and tiresome. On top of that, he sounds like he snorts coke prior to every show. Must miss radio if you ask me.

That's how Cowherd used to be with me. But the more I listen (driving to lunch), the more I realize what an ignorant blowhard he is. Or maybe he just is getting worse.
I've also noticed that on days he doesn't feel like working hard or talking much, he starts, for no reason, talking about how soccer will never be a major sport in the US, that it'll never catch on. Guaranteed calls and emails, and that's at least an hour he doesn't have to do much. It's pretty lazy seeming when he does it.

See, I'm OK with Rome. I know that he comes off as abrasive and arrogant, and the shtick is probably well past its time (especially since Rome is on the wrong side of 40 now). That said, the interviews are consistently good, and occasionally the non-sports aspects of the show (the emails, clone phone calls, the border wars, etc.) are hilarious. And what most perceive as arrogance, I simply think is tongue-in-cheek. I don't think he's serious about his smack - I think it's just the way he wants the show to go. The talk about the "Jungle Karma" and things like that - I don't think he actually takes any of it seriously.
Plus, even for a guy who gets paid to speak, Rome misspeaks less than anyone else I've ever listened to. He always seems to know what he wants to say before he says it. |

With Cowheard and Rome hate/love aside, I would have to say the best national sports talk show out there would have to be the Tony Bruno show.
I do like Rome but if he goes on about something you do not find interesting the show is a total loss, because there is no sidekick to get the show on a different track. I am not sure if J-Stew even really exists, he may just be Rome's alter ego with a funny voice. As for Mike and Mike, while they might be funny at sometimes, they never have anything insightful to say. All there comments are blatanlty obvious and they often just debate the same point over and over and over. You could listen to them for and hour and not hear something new.

I actually enjoy all of the major ESPN radio shows. I agree that Mke and Mike's schtick is a bit overplayed and that Cowherd says some stupid things. But, overall, I'm entertained. Far better than anything else on sports radio, barring when Mike and the Maddog talk about my Mets.

I just don't really care what random people have to say about sports. Except Kornheiser and Wilbon.

Colin Cowherd sucks because he has no idea what the hell he's talking about.
Rome is smart but he sucks because he rips on everybody and then every single interview he does turns into an ass-kissing fest. Ever since he got the **** kicked out of him on TV, he turned into radio and TV's biggest pussy. Sometimes I'm embarrassed for him. Kornholer and Wilbon are only still on the air because after watching Woody Paige and Skip Bayless, Kornholer and Wilbon look like Plato and Aristotle. |
