Your entire series of posts is dripping with irony. I cannot believe you have the gall to rebuke someone for being a poor commish and also creating a new username to hide from their previous one. Congrats on suckering someone into giving you control of another league. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Last edited by Hammer755; 07-02-2002 at 01:13 PM. |

I'm going to have to chime in on this one, if only to make others aware of the situation. First off, I only know Maddux through the (now-possibly-defunct) TTBL, so I don't have any past to judge him on. I do know he has a great desire to have a good league going, and his actions have not struck me as those of someone who "suckered" anyone into giving him control of a league.
TTBL was going through its second incarnation. The first incarnation got through the draft, and through some pre-season trading. At that point, some controversy arose over the vetoing of a trade, there was a lot of name-calling, and the TTBL Commish realized that he was dealing with a lot of kids, and not a lot of mature people, and decided to shut down the league and form a new one with a better group of owners. Although I was not in any sort of position, I fully backed this decision, as I'm already in one league with a bunch of immature, name-calling owners, and didn't want a second. So, the second incarnation of the league got off the ground, including a live draft (well, the first six rounds...which was basically the idea from day one), and a nice message board got going, and people were trading, active, and looking forward to the season starting. The season was due to sim one day per real day, with an 80 game season. TTBL Commish was the commish, and Maddux and I became Co-Commissioners. There's no question (IMO, anyway), that Maddux was a more forceful personality than TTBL Commish, and wanted some changes made that he believed would make the league better. IMO, he got a little overbearing at times, and the bottom line is, no matter how forceful he was with things, he was also willing to compromise for the good of the league. I thought a good working relationship had been established between TTBL Commish, Maddux, and me. Yesterday, July 1, 2002, was to be the first day of the league. There were 4 games in 1 league, and 1 game in the 2nd league, to be played live. The 4 simmed games were done early in the morning (well, early AM PST, anyway) and results were posted, the league pages were updated, and I was looking forward to the live game, because it involved my team. I wasn't going to be there due to prior committments, however I was interested in seeing people's reactions to the game. One thing disturbed me, though. Earlier in the day, TTBL Commish had posted a message to Maddux and me stating that he was going to have problems with the time committments of doing the one sim a day and would like to change the sims to 5 days, 2x/week. Maddux and I both stated that we thought part of the appeal of the league was the one day/day aspect, and offered to help with the simming. Later, this was modified to less frequent sims, with Maddux and I sharing the lions share of the simming, and TTBL Commish being responsible for website update, with help from Maddux when he got up to speed on Dreamweaver. I have very minimal web design experience, so I was going to be no good for that. So, I come home from my meetings, eager to see how my game came out, and the league site is down. No explanation, just a lot of confused owners. In fact, because I didn't save the message board URL, I'm not even able to check that to see what's going on. This morning, a couple of owners message me on AIM asking what's going on. Thankfully, one of them had the message board URL, and I caught a message from Maddux, who was also confused as to what was going on. I posted in the league official's forum to TTBL Commish, and am still waiting for a reply. He hasn't been on AIM, he hasn't been to the TTBL message board, however he has been here, so I know he's been online. The bottom line of this long post (and kudos to you if you stuck with it) is that TTBL Commish's actions have been very bush league. This is twice now that he's gotten the league on the verge of starting and shut it down. Its not for me to analyze the reasons, just to let people know what sort of commissioner they will be dealing with in this historical league. As I put in my post on the TTBL board, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Give you a third chance to fool me....well, do I look that stupid?" Caveat Emptor

For the record, if you continue the league, I'd like to stay in and would be happy to fill a co-commish role with you, if that's what you'd like. There seemed to be a good group of owners involved, and the league idea was good, IMO. Keep me posted.

Guys don't start arguing... this is between me and my co commishes... and let's leave it at that. no fighting
Josh, I had taken full responsibility of the league. And things did seem to be going smoothly. But as commish, there's much more that happened that u didn't know about. I tried fighting through all my problems, and I managed to do so. We had the agreement set up so u and Maddux would be taking control of the league. Then i went out for the rest of the day, came home and found out my Aunt had died. Now i had never really had a close family member die, so i honestly don't know how to react. I did it in a foolish, selfish way by taking TTBL off the lines because i just couldn't handle my life. Now.... here's the problem. You say i'm very bush, as in hiding, but I've been talking to Maddux for the past couple of hours (VIA email) and we already came to the agreement that Maddux is taking over the league, and we already emailed Andreas stating this. I also sent out a league apology (did you not get it?) for why i couldn't participate in the league anymore. Bottom Line.... I was the commish, I made a mistake, and I made some bad choices. However, unlike most people, I am living up to the mistakes I made. I've come out cleanly by saying, "yes, i screwed up and abandoned the league", and I have also been very fair by turning over the league to someone else. It took me over a week just to get this website, and it took me another week setting it up, so what I did with the league was my own choice. The fact that I decided to be the best man i could be and give it to Maddux should say something. All I ask is that this doesn't go any farther. The problem has been solved, and I'm paying for my mistakes |

I'd like to end with this....
In the past this board has come to a lot of different things. Lying, cheating, swearing, arguing. But we have to sit down and think for a minute about what we are actually doing. This is a video game... made by the creators for everyone to enjoy. We are taking this for granted. The fact that we argue over petty things, and then things get complicated over topics that shouldn't even be discussed in a public area. I too, was caught up in this "video game" drama... and then my aunt died. That's when you know... there's more to life then a video game. It hit me hard, and I took the league out of business for one night. Then the next day, instead of me just trying to figure out what i'm gonna do, there's an uproar about a video game online league. People call me bush, immature, unreliable... over a video game. I'm sorry folks, but there's more to life then a video game. I started posting for this league yesterday morning, while TTBL was still in effect. I was going to be Co-Commish in TTBL, while commishing my own league w/ a bunch of historic loving owners. Then at night things turn bad, and I make mistakes. And now my character is being checked. Why do we let video games destroy our life? I personally think everyone should take a break from this game, take a weeks break. Everyone I've seen posting on this board constantly has had their personalities change from post to post. We all need to think before we do things. I didn't think, and now I'm in a mess. A mess i shouldn't have gotten myself into. But that's life for you... something bad happens, and then it's like a dominoe effect. Everything in the path falls apart |

I appreciate your response, and posted to this board before reading your e-mail. My condolences on the loss of your aunt. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is never easy.
I also appreciate your taking responsibility for what happened. To me, however, that still doesn't excuse how you handled the situation. I'm quite aware of the intimidation you felt from Maddux, because we discussed it on several occasions. To me, it still comes across that you were looking for an 'out' from the league. I feel you owed us an explanation, at least so we could tell the other owners something. A two line e-mail would have sufficed. The whole intent of my post was basically to give people a heads-up as to what happened with both versions of TTBL, so they could go into the new league with eyes open. I wish you luck with this new league, although I will not participate in it. I bear you no malice, and hope you've learned from this experience.

Joshuaaaa - You really laid it all out for them, huh? I was not going to spill out that much detail.
![]() Do you ever check your emails? I have been keeping you in the loop with everything. We will talk soon. I still need to get the passwords from TTBL Commish. He has already sent me some of them. Also, we may need a break while I put myself through a crash course in Dreamweaver UltraDev 4. Maybe take 2-4 weeks off or something? I asked him to put the site back up, but I am not sure if that will happen. If it does, it will help us out a great deal until I know enough to design a new one. For the record, I have full intentions of keeping you on board as my right hand in this league. Cheers, Maddux

To me, this is a closed issue now. My intent is not to bash the TTBL Commish, just to give others an idea what they may (or may not...I'd love to be proved wrong) be in store for in the new league. I feel the explanations I've received both here and in e-mail are sufficent for me to feel at ease with the current situation.

Maddux- I will help you design a new site template. Do you want me to make you another one? As i've also told u many times, I will teach you dreamweaver if needed. I'll be sending u the message board password in just a minute... is that all u need or is there anything else?
Josh- I know it doesn't make up for the fact on how i dealt with the situation. I will be facing consequences for some time to come. As I stated... i panicked... and i made mistakes. I wish i could take back these 24 hours, but I can't. |

Before I get lambasted, you tell me if you see the same coincidence I did. I noticed this yesterday, and did not intend to share it with anyone (if someone wants a new start, who am I to prevent it?), but I don't want to see another league get trashed the way his original one was. If I'm wrong, I sincerely apologize to Maddux31. OOTP Post dated July 1 FOFC Post dated June 30 Last edited by Hammer755; 07-02-2002 at 05:33 PM. |

I have no idea what those two links are supposed to mean.
I am new to High Heat 2003 and someone else on another board is also new to the game. High Heat has nothing to do with our OOTP4 league. Hammer, I don't know where this is going, but you seem to have a lot of time on your hands. I wish I had that much time as well. ![]() Cheers, Maddux
