TBF the worst that will happen if you download the wrong version, I’m pretty sure, is that you’ll get a pop up saying that your computer isn’t compatible. At least, that’s the error when you try to install the 64 bit version on a 32 bit machine. So unless you are pretty certain you have a 32 bit CPU or you have really low bandwidth with your ISP, just download the 54 bit version and see if it works.

Mixed feelings so far

I've got mixed feelings about 22, and I've been with OOTP for a lot of years and seen it come a long, long way.

The improvements under the hood are good, but I actually don't like the simplification of the minors ... I like to run big setups.

I play on Linux and now I have to use Steam, which I don't care for. But the big advantage is that I don't have to reenter a license key every time there is a minor OS update. That plagued 21 and made it incredibly annoying to use.

However, is it just me, or are the graphics less sharp? Certainly seems like it. And the sound is less consistent, with dropouts to silence, large volume shifts, etc.

Really annoying is the need to sometimes (and sometimes not) click one, two, even three or four times to get to the next batter during live action play.

Hopefully these are bugs that will get worked out but aside from the license key issue 21 was a smoother and more pleasant playing experience, at least from what I've seen so far.

I ask myself (without knowing what's going on on the inside) if the emphasis is a little too much on revenue-producers like Perfect Play.

This is something I've mentioned before, and I also noticed it in 21. I've tried to figure out which sounds are on the extreme ends so that I could volume level them, but I haven't had any luck. I think most annoying is the crowd sound that is almost silence for a few seconds before returning to 'normal' crowd noise.

I feel like the presence of another revenue generator always causes people to question the sanctity of the development crew. There's a separate team that works on Perfect Team compared to the rest of the game. For that matter, there's a separate team that works on 3D compared to the rest of the game. In addition to squelching the argument that OOTPDev "doesn't care about the base game", the fact is that PT requires a different skillset than 3D or OOTP - PT is a thin client that calls and responds to API calls, with all of the processing happening at the server level, whereas base OOTP is all handled from the app itself. They could theoretically make the PT engine work completely differently than the base OOTP engine, although a. that seems like an awful lot of work when the base engine seems to work pretty well, and b. there's no evidence that they're doing that as many of the quirks from the basic game are on display in PT as well (there are little tweaks they've made, I'm pretty sure).

As for the sound, yeah, TBH I turn the crowd noise all the way down because no matter how much variance you add, you're always going to wind up with repeats if you play it enough and I am about to throw that "it's a foul ball" guy out of all of the stadia in my league. It'd be cool if the bat SFX correlated better with how well the ball was hit, if the hitter was jammed, etc., and I'd love to see the umpire voice remain the same in the same game, but these feel nitpicky to me right now. I will say that maybe having a crowd that's mostly white or brown noise would be better for longterm play?

You're the second person I've seen mention 'foul ball' guy. I've never heard that in any game. I'm wondering if I'm missing a sound file. Do you know what the file is called?

I haven’t messed with the sound files at all. But there’s definitely a clip where there’s some kids talking and then there’s this dude saying “that’s a foul ball” in a way where you can tell he is sacrificing one of those children to the Great Satan okay I may be reading into that last part.

I have bought the last few versions of the game and have always enjoyed it. I bought 22 and was enjoying it as well until a few patches ago. Now whenever I create a new fictional league, that's all I normally do, the game is now unplayable. I normally expand by two additional teams after simming ten seasons or so. I will take over one expansion team and leave the other to the AI.

I go through the expansion draft with no problems. Then when it is time to sign free agents to fill out the minor leagues the other expansion team signs nobody. When it comes time to start playing games I get an error message that the season can't proceed due to the other expansion team having an incomplete roster.

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the game but still have the same issue. I was told by a mod to send them the league files. I'm not sure exactly how to do this. He said in a follow up email he sent instructions on how to do this but I could not find it. Not saying he didn't but I could not find the email. Anyway 22 started out being great for me but as it is now not so much as I can't play the game at all.

Maybe PM the mod and let him know you didn't get the email and to please send the instructions again? They're certainly not going to duck an issue by saying they sent an email if they didn't. The worst I think you could possibly see is them being backed up and having to wait a bit for help. Though this doesn't seem to happen a lot either. Now if you don't follow up and communicate they can't be expected to know what is happening on your end.

OOTP customer support is very good. They worked with me last year on a problem (brand new computer crashed to reboot only while playing OOTP) they were pretty sure was my computer and nothing to do with OOTP. Their first response noted a crash to reboot is usually a hardware issue, and yet a number of emails with suggestions to try to find the problem were sent from OOTP Dev. They even linked me to some software that could possibly diagnose the problem if it was indeed a hardware issue on my computer. They had no obligation to do this. They could have said "it's not an OOTP issue" and left it at that.

Then after about 4 months of this it finally crashed to reboot while using another application. In the end my brand new computer went into the companies service center twice and they could not fix the issue. They ended up replacing it with another new machine.

There is a glitch in the communication somewhere. Follow up with OOTP support and they'll do their best to make it right.

I will probably ask the mod to resend instructions on how to send them the league files but I have already informed him that I could not locate the email that he sent. Don't know why he didn't just resend the email knowing I was having problems locating it.

One main request: option to get AI to avoid playing not-fully-rested players if at all possible

Noticed on my own team that a not-fully-rested player will often pinch-hit later in the game and end up with an injury. I have started routinely benching players to avoid this (I let AI manager make in-game substitutions). Just worry that this is weakening the AI a bit (all 3 of us are in first place in our divisions... always looking for ways to make AI better than us).

Tournament availability

I love the "Daily Iron 1250" and the "Daily Bronze 1375" tournaments, but if you are in the Eastern time zone they seem to come up for entry in the middle of the night and are already full when I wake uo the next morning. If they are popular tournaments, is it possible to have a second one that comes up at a better time for the Eastern time zone?

Really appreciate the help but this did not work for me. Couldn't access the site and even if I could I don't have the capability to zip files. At this point I am just going to forget it. This game has never given me problems until now. Not worth the trouble.

Help! Different Mac route for 22?

Been playing OOTP for years. Never posted here before. I cannot figure out how to place a league file into 22 on my new MacBook Air. It seems to take a different route than 21 did to get there and I have yet to figure it out.

Please advise!
