I put up the lastest build in the zip file. Uninstall the old one, reinstall this one. (You can do both from the download).
You DO NOT have to reindex. I added the coloring to the html pages for the team and added the percentage. I have not prettied it up yet, so it looks plain jane. Note: The PCT coloring coding: Red is below .500, Blue is .500 or above. The color of the wins is based on last season. If you have more more wins than the year before it will be blue, if less wins, it will be red. NOTE: Small bug with 100+ wins. Forgot to fix that one. Preview at www.sim2005.com/1961/teamindex.html .

I've got a couple of suggestions, if you don't mind.
Personally, I wouldn't colour code the Wins column, I'd just keep the text there in black. I find it looks a bit odd with red and blue wins but black losses. I'd reserve the colour coding strictly for the winning percentage. Speaking of which, rather than using blue and red, I'd suggest using black or red. These are the traditional colours used in accounting sheets, so when a team is on the positive side in winning percentage it's "in the black," as the saying goes. The layout is quite nice, but I can think of two additions which would naturally fit onto what you've got there. The first would be a column after the winning percentage which would list the team's position of finish that season. So, it would say something like, "4th in league" or "2nd in East Division" or "West Division Champion," etc. The second would be another column, after the new column mentioned above. This column would list the last playoff result for the team that season, giving the indication of how far the team got in the post-season. So, it might say something like "Lost in Division Series, 3 games to 1" or "Lost in LCS 4 games to 3" or "Won World Series 4 games to 2," etc. |

Excellent suggestions. I went ahead and removed the color coding from the wins and changed the BLUE to BLACK and also made it BOLD.
I added the two additional fields, but they are empty at this point, as that information is stored elsewhere and I will have to retrieve it. I do not see a problem, as it takes about 2/10th of a second to generate the HTML screens for my 24 years through 60 years!! I also fixed the 100+ issue. I did a naughty fix, as if someone wins 131 games, it will not display that properly, oh well, that is what you get if you are too good. I uploaded the lastest version if you want to check it out. I also updated the HTML pages I created, you can click on the link in the previous message. I also resized the frames a little and centered the WINS and LOSSES. I design websites, so I have a pretty good understanding of HTML, but this is a bugger to write the code for!

Note Updated: But I now have the HTML displaying the Games behind year by year, or WON DIVISION.
Came across a snag with putting the last playoff information there. Finding the info is tricky, because you can rename the DIVISION SERIES or WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. So, I have to pull that information from the DAT file, which is not always the easiest thing to do. I pull the team names and abbreviations from it, so it is possible. I remember seeing it in a file. Of course, if you change the name of the World Championship to World Series after a few years, it won't work. I am trying to avoid having you input that information. Other things to consider that make this part tough is you may not have a 2nd round of playoffs, like if no Wild card. For instant, a historical sim in 1910 is going to just have the AL and NL winners meeting in WS. While in 1969, there are playoffs, or was it 72? That is the tricky part, in getting the program to figure out your format. I am going to add the team batting average and ERA for each year too, since the information is right there. BTW, to get this information, enter TEAMS and click on HTML REPORTS. Then look in the RETIRED PLAYERS folder. There will be a file called TeamINDEX.HTML and all the generated team files (laTeam1.html, laTeam2.html, etc.) Also a retired.html file with all of the retired players listed and links to their page. The idea is to upload the entire folder to the server if you want your league to see it. Otherwise, you can just view it locally. Eventually, all the HTMLs I create will be accessed through one HTML. I also do plan on adding an FTP part of the program to upload it to the server. And also plan on having it modify the main index.html file that is produced with the OOTP program to create a link to my menu.

How difficult would it be to add one button that allows an "unattended update" where you could click one button that would go through each of the steps (i.e. index players, index almanac, find orphans, etc.) in the correct order.
What I'm looking for is a way to run the utility overnight or in the background, without having to watch the completion of each step to get to the next button. Is this possible? I'm also not exactly clear what to do after the completion of one more season. Do you have to go through each of the steps to index? Is there a way to explain the steps or order right on the utility screen without having to look at a separate help file. For example, number each step and explain briefly what it does. Then have a note about how to update one season. |

Did I miss a step or do something wrong? Many players cannot be viewed and it says they may be retired. However, I indexed the retired players and found 600-plus orphans. Shouldn't that recover the links to all players?

Inside the OOTP program, under ALMANAC, look and see if you have SAVE PLAYER FILES marked. If you do not, the program will not be able to find them, because they do not exist.
How old is your career? If you can zip up the entire thing, I would be glad to look at it. Quote:

In addition, I can't do anything with the "Teams" function. The error screen or debugger popup menu appears and nothing displays. When clicking the Players option, nothing happens. It locks everything up. I'm using your newest version. I uninstalled the previous and reinstalled the new. Still didn't resolve. |

I think I can do that. But I have to wait until I am sure that I am done with the indexing routines. I may be able to create a new button and then just copy and paste the routines from all the functions into that button. I will give it a try tomorrow.
Let me explain what each button does: INDEX PLAYERS: This searches through the LEAGUESITE folder (where ever you have it) for active players. This is why it is VERY important that you generate a new report before running it. INDEX ALMANAC: It searches through the almanac (all years) and finds all of the R####.HTML files. (These are retired player files that are created by the OOTP program, Hall of Fame players, etc.). It also finds any P####.HTML files that exist in the almanacs. However, with the P files, it gets the newest one. So, Mark Mesa in 1970 would be P1111.html, but since there is a P1111.html in 1971 that is also Mark Mesa, but there is no P1111.html in 1972 or there is one, but it is NOT Mark Mesa, then it picks the one in 1971. It also creates 2 indexes, one for the R players and one for the P players. This is used by my program to quickly locate players. So, if you search for MESA, it displays all of the MESA players QUICKLY! ADD RETIRED: This routine is the one that actually does all of the copying of the retired players over to the retired players folder. It looks at each the index files and copies over all of the files into the RETIRED PLAYERS FOLDER. NEW SEASON: It looks through the latest TODAY.TXT file and copies over all of the new retired players, based on the (Joe Smith has retired...) lines. It also checks for any new players (rookies or other new generated players). ORPHANS: This finds those 'missing' players. They are usually players that retired with no team, or retired while never making it to the majors. Mostly the 'crap' players. But, surprisingly, there are sometimes some #1 and #2 draft picks like this. I found one guy that had thrown a no-hitter in a September call up and never made it back to the majors. Quietly went away while toiling in the minors. So, to sum it up, you only have to do the INDEX PLAYERS, INDEX ALMANAC and INDEX RETIRED one time. You need to run the NEW SEASON evey year. It is recommended that it be ran at the start of the new season, but it does not hurt to run it at the middle of the season. The ophan must be ran after each season, but, actually you could wait and run it evey few years if desired. It only checks for orphans in seasons that have not been checked. This is the longest of the routines. I actually tried to have it display the PLAYER NEWS Screen for each year as it ran, to give you something to look at, but it is doing so much reading/writing it did not work out well. Maybe later. The test season I created, I ran from 1968 to 1981, and I have not yet came up with a COULD NOT FIND PLAYER and I tested it like crazy. If you rename a player, it could act funny then though. But it should handle it, just treat the OLD named player as an orphan. Hope this helps. Quote:

![]() In any event, this portion of your utility may enable me to more quicky ID those types of players. You know the code. Do you have any idea what happens to, let's say, 50-60 FA that I might choose to delete from the FA pool because I don't think they'll ever be of interest to anyone? Do all their records, i.e. player ID, photo, histories, etc... vanish into the night as if they never existed?

Any ideas on why the most recent download throws errors when choosing the Teams and locks up and crashes when choosing the Players button on the main menu?
Also, after reinstalling and trying to run all of the steps again with the Utilities, it will only find orphans for the final year of a league rather than seeking out all orphans for all years. |

I would try this:
Erase all of the files in the RETIRED PLAYERS folder. Uninstall the program. Then delete ALL of the files in the installation folder and then re-install. Then do all the indexing again. Of you could try just deleting the LATEAMS.TXT folder from the RETIRED PLAYERS folder, delete the LASTORPHAN.TXT file from the RETIRED PLAYERS folder and the xxxxteamID.txt file from the installation folder.

Another wish item to add to your bag of magic tricks: given that you're drawing data from the boxscores, is there a possibility now of being able to link the Ballpark name to the number of HR, 2B, etc.....allowed there? It wouldn't even have to be a lifetime collection of data, but it would be interesting to see the seasonal statistics. Cato has never been able to offer this feature and it's something that's been on my wishlist for a long time. When you have time or thoughts. Thanks.

Actually, I have not pulled any data from the boxscores, yet. But that is a possibilty down the line.

I did not do much today with the program. People wanted me to fix their computers. The nerve.
I did add the WS winners/losers to the team HTML routine. www.sim2005.com/1961/teamindex.html I think it looks cool. Now if I can figure out how to get the playoffs in there, it would be even cooler. No new DL available. I also combined three of the buttons (all but the Orphan button) It seems to work OK, but have not fully tested it yet.

From what I can tell, the photos get recycled. I could be wrong, but if P1333 left the building, then the new P1333 takes over his photo.
My current league I have photos disabled because it is a 100 year league and already has eaten 6 gig of disk space on my server. The photos, being BMPs just take too much disk space. I am however thinking about a neat thing. I could write a routine that would search all the files for .bmp and change it to .jpg and we would be using JPG instead of bmps. However, it might be more work than people want, as you would have to generate the reports, run my program that would change all the files and then upload. So if you are using the built in SLOW ftp program, you would have to exit OOTP, run my program, then enter and FTP it. Quote:

As far as the photo issue, my wish would be for Markus to add an option in V7 as follows....
I, for one, do not need to know what every player in the league looks like. I think anyone that has led a category for the season, won a major award, got into the HOF, or did some unique thing - like pitch a perfect game should get a photo. If Markus added such logic, you could dump all your photos into a directory, and let the game assign photos as the players did these "special things". It would eliminate you having to do anything other than add the photos to a directory, and it would also reduce the number of photos needed. |

Looks like my WS wins and losses counting routine is off.

I went ahead and uploaded the latest version. I also uploaded just the EXE file if you have installed it within the past week, you can just download the exe file and copy it to the installation folder and not re-install.
- Fixed the WSwin Wsloss total on the HTML team pages to show the correct amount - Fixed the config to show your current configuration file when you load it (thanks Rasnell). I had a typo in the code - Added the teams batting average and ERA per year to the HTML screens. Now working on a tricky routine, reading in the League.dat file. If I can do this, then I can pull out the names of the playoffs and world series (Division Series, World Championship, etc.). I can also pull out the league names, division names, c:/leaguesite location, etc. It will make my job easier if I can pull this information out.

OK, I was not able to read in the dat file like I wanted to, but I was able to figure out a way. However, you have to go into the configure part and tell the program what your league series are called. I.E. Default is World Championship, most people change this to World Series. You have to tell my program what each series is called. Just once, it will remember it for each league.
So far I have it showing the 1st round of the playoffs, but can easily add the 2nd round. The WS is already added. I need some color tips. I suck at colors. I want a different color for each one, so the 1st round would be one color, 2nd round another color and WS another. Here is what the display looks like. In the WS record field, that is where I want the colors. www.sim2005.com/lateam15.html Show me the colors!
