CENTURION'S FUTURE UP IN THE AIR

NEW JERSEY - After three years of improving the Tokyo Aeros, the Centurion Sports Management Group is seeking a new home. Reports indicate a number of teams are interested in Centurion's services including the LA Dodgers, Hartford Whalers, Anchorage Sky Chiefs, San Antonio Aviators and Houston Astros have all contacted Centurion about running their clubs.

"We're not at this point sure what we intend to do, we do know we want to go someplace and build a franchise over the next few years, but we will see," said Centurion spokesman Dave Littleburn.

This season is considered to be one of the best with some of the best players in the league availible such as Lars Heinreich, who at age 24 already has 442 home runs for his career.

"We know there is a great deal of talent out there. We want to be sure that if we go someplace, we'll be able to have access to some of that talent." said Dark Cloud.

Fans have voiced their opinions through the league, at where they want the club to go. Some say, to go to Hartford would be suicide since New Jersey and New York essentially own the AL East. Others suggest a return to more familiar territory would be appropriate.

"They ought to come back to Oregon and fix this team up again," said Martha Jones, at a Starbucks near Amway Field in Portland. Since the Whitley family purchased the team, the Emeralds have languished, while Centurion has one a World Series (2011) with the New York Mets and two other division titles in Tokyo.

A decision is expected by next week.

2017 FREE AGENT DREAM TEAM

Modern Era fans know the game has never had a free agent year like this before. I was sitting and dreaming if I had an expansion team what players I'd sign to make a super team.

Free Agents

STARTING LINEUP
C Landon Powell
1B Josh Pressley
2B Arturo Prado
3B Scott Daniel
SS Joseph Ferreri
LF Charles Drakes
CF Jason Stiles
RF Alex Fernandez
DH Lars Heinreich

ROTATION
SP David Flinchum
SP Ryan Madson
SP Matt Brown
SP Marvin Huson
SP Brandon League

CLOSER
CL Duncan Hatfield

ROLE PLAYERS
LF Andy D'Alessio

Pitching wise, the team doesn't have the name recognition that you'd expect. But that offense would probably put up enough runs a night to where it wouldn't matter.

DARK CLOUD, CENTURION PART WAYS

CENTURION TO HARTFORD, DARK CLOUD HEADS TO LOS ANGELES
NEW JERSEY In a move few expected, the Centurion Sports Mgt. Group and its founder, Dark Cloud have parted ways again.

Dark Cloud, who previously headed Centurion operations in Oregon, New York and Tokyo, has been wooed by the Los Angeles Dodgers to a three year contract, to run the franchise as its President. The club is owned by MediaSource, a company owned by Dark Cloud friend T.D. Schofield and reports say he was given one task. "To win, to just win."

Despite being in the largest #2 television market and turning profits over $100 million each of the past six years, the Dodgers have languished in a very competitive NL West and after last season's disappointing 4th place finish despite the 8th highest payroll in baseball, Schofield, who bought the team last year decided it was time for a change.

"I didn't want to give the team up to anyone, but I knew I wanted DC here to run it," he said.

"I'm thrilled to be coming here. I honestly gave it some thought and I don't really have the stomach for another rebuilding project right now. I want to win, I want win a lot. Maybe the success we had earlier in my career has given me highest aspirations to feel like even though its crazy, that I can win every year. I'm glad that ownership here feels the same way and is receptive to helping me put together the type of club that will win ballgames night and night out," DC said.

HARTFORD ABUZZ
Centurion Sports Management signed a five year deal to run the new Hartford Whalers. The club, which moved from Minnesota is in the process of establishing its new offices in the city at UPS Field. The club is a young, talented club and new Centurion head Colby Sawyer is excited about the club's future.

"We're inheirenting a very talented club that has a lot of potential," said Sawyer, who said the team payroll wouldn't exceed $60 million during the first season. The club would then assess where it was after that first season. Currently, Hartford's payroll is third lowest in the league at $37 million.

Hartford is expected to go after an ace starter, as well as an upgrade at second base and in the outfield. "You can't do a whole lot with an upgrade of $20 million the way salaries are these days, but we can do what we can," said Sawyer.

WHAT'S LEFT IN TOKYO
The Tokyo Aeros and new GM Taki Daisuka, have a formidble task. To replace a team that won over 100 games last year. Centurion refused to sign any of the players who were free agents this year, meaning that most of the team was gone at the end of the season.

Despite that, there are a number of core players remaining that will ensure the team stays competitive in a very wide open AL Pacific. "I'm confident we'll be able to stay in the hunt," said Daisuka. Provided they don't make deals to get rid of them, the team has 3B Alan Hainkel, who is coming off one of his best seasons and is a free agent at the end of the season, RF Delmon Young, who is coming off his worst season in the majors, CF Dion Bronson and 21-year old catcher Jaron Kelding also factor as key components on paper to make up the favorite in the AL Pacific. The most important thing will be replace its young pitching staff. Only Roswell and Guile Molina return from the rotation of last year's club. Right now, the team would replace the others with rookies who have had moderate success, but are probably some of the best prospects in the game - during their primes - so its anyone's guess if the team will be successful.

"We're going to play hard and do what's best to keep this good thing going," he said.

THE PLAN

HARTFORD will be under a hard cap. Their spending plan will not exceed the following figures annually.

2017: $55 million
2018: $60 million
2020: $65 million
2021: $70 million

Meanwhile, I'm not imposing such limits on myself in LA. The idea is basically to display that ownership in Hartford is under spending restraints. Not gross ones, but that Centurion is no longer interested in spending more than everyone, only to get no return.

Los Angeles wants to win, at all costs. Three years, nothing less than a World Series is acceptable.

Hartford wants to win too, but they're in a harder division and with the spending restraints it'll be more challenging. But the goal there is a division title, because it'll mean New Jersey was beaten.

NEW SITE FOR THE MODERN ERA

In case I wasn't done shamlessly promoting, the Modern Era finally has a new web site. The site will comprise of news updates, etc. I'll still post stuff here, but the site would be a better place to look since its 1) easier for me to update and 2) folks who are reading the dynasty from off this site that don't want to register for whatever reason are more likely to visit my site and check out updates.

So anyway...just a heads up to all the fans out there. ::counts all 10 hands::

The File is availible

After finally getting my domain back up and stuff, I'm pleased to inform those who wanted it, that a stripped version of the Modern Era League file is availible.

The history nor any of the archives or logos are in the file. I figured that it was already big enough when it zipped to over 3MB. The league file is over 400 MB, but at least here you'll have the basic stuff to get you going.

Obviously you won't have my daft commentary or being able to import really awesome foreign players from Nigeria or other untold places around the world. But hey....I said I'd give you the file..not everything.

Enjoy!

WHALERS EXCITED ABOUT FREE AGENCY PERIOD

HARTFORD- The Whalers are excited about free agency and assemblign what many hope to be a much improved team after last season.

With payroll just over $37 million, the Whalers are poised to spend, but cautiously. "Where we might have been able to splurge in past years on players with other teams, you'll see a different strategy being employed by Centurion," said Colby Sawyer, who recently assumed the Presidency of Centurion SMG after Dark Cloud left for Los Angeles following the 2016 season, in which the Tokyo Aeros, the last club Centurion managed, failed to win in the ALCS for the second straight year. Now, Sawyer has to play in the same division with them.

"We view this as a challenge, not a hinderance and we'll be ready to do whatever it takes to win," said Sawyer.

The Whalers are interested in revamping the club, after the Whalers - who moved from Minneapolis this off-season - after the franchise's worst season (55-99) in the Modern Era. As the Twins, the club has previously won six division titles, most recently in 2014 and finished in second six times. Needless to say, the franchise is accustomed to winning or being successful.

"In the past, this franchise has been successful, but more as a Cinderella story. Its one thing to win when you never do, but to consistently make the playoffs and lose is almost just as bad as never making the playoffs. We're going to build a club that's more than just mediocre. We're going to do good things and we're excited about what the season has in store," said Sawyer.

2017 SCHEDULE

OPENING DAY 2017
The Whalers play their first game in Boston at State Street Bank Ballpark at Harborplex, as this New England rivalry gets underway. Unlike when New England last had a second team (New England Whitecaps), this team is in the same league as Boston, but far enough away that it can get is own unique fanbase. "We're excited about starting a new baseball rivalry," said Colby Sawyer, Whalers GM.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers open their season at Coors Field in Denver against the Rockies.

Some special attractions this season:

3/27 - New Orleans v. Arizona @ Estadio de Corona in Mexico City
4/28 - Tokyo v. New York @ Wachovia Park in Charlotte, NC
5/1 - INTERLEAGUE matchup Atlanta v. Oregon @ KansasPlex, Kansas City, KS
6/10 - New York v. Boston @ Fenway Park (ESPN Classic "Matchup")

WHALERS ACQUIRE PERRIGO, PROMOTED

HARTFORD - The Hartford Whalers acquired CF Jesse Perrigo from the Memphis Express for a minor league outfielder and promoted him to the majors, making him the final player from the Continental League era to be promoted the the majors. "I'm excited to finally be a big leaguer," said Perrigo, who was expected to start in July 2nd game for the Whalers. "Hopefully, along with J. Hanley, who came from the CL, we can show these guys what's its like in the hard life." he said.

Whalers first baseman and constant trade rumors swirl around 1B Jordan Hanley who is rumored to be one of the players on the block before the July 31st trade deadline.

"We're not going to send Jordan anywhere. He's part of our future here in Hartford," said Colby Sawyer, Whalers GM.

DODGERS LOOK FOR NEW WAYS TO WIN

LOS ANGELES - Money can't buy everything, as Dark Cloud and the LA Dodgers are figuring out. Just four games out behind the San Francisco Giants, DC is seeking out new ways to give the club an edge, as the trade deadline is two weeks away.

"I think its fair to say that we'll be making some moves," he said. The team is considering seeking out some more "offensive punch" as he put it, to help bolster an languishing offense that ranks in the bottom half of the league.

"We're going to do what we can, because we owe it to our fans to go as far as we can," he said.

THE TACKLE SHOP - July 16, 2017

TRADE BAIT - 2017
As the trade deadline nears, teams who are plotting jockey for position, seeking out deals to help their clubs improve, while others look to shead some salary, as others take on more and more, in the pursuit of a title - or to sustain their place upon the mantle.

BUYERS
DETROIT TIGERS - The Tigers are seeking their first division title since returning to Detroit from London. The team is seeking pitching or more offensive production, for the club - fourth in homers - is in the bottom half of the league in batting.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS - Dark Cloud has never been in danger of losing his job before. But, needless to say that if the $150 million fiasco in LA doesn't get into the playoffs, the Dodgers might be looking for someone else to run their operations, considering the franchise is "looking for a title and wants one now", said owner T.D. Schofield. The Dodgers are reportedly looking to nab top flight pitching and are willing to part with prospects. Look for them to feed off of middle salary teams that are looking to get rid of arbitration eligible stars they can't pay.

NEW YORK METS - The Mets are back in the hunt! Expect New York's "other" team to seek out an arm or two, especially with payroll at under $70m, the Mets are certainly able to go after some of the better pitchers out there. Look for Toronto to be a player as its trying to pawn off its top two pitchers.

SELLERS
TORONTO BLUE JAYS - Though just four games out in the AL Central, the Jays are likely to sell off their top two pitchers Ajani Russell and Kosta Nikolandis, who make almost $30 million combined. The Jays will command a front-line starter in return, plus cash and something else. It'll need to be good.

NEW YORK YANKEES - The Yanks, seeing little end in sight to the Jersey juggernaut, have decided to sell out what assets they have. Fan favorite and future Hall of Famer Zach Tucker is coveted by a number of teams, most notably Detroit.

ST LOUIS CARDINALS - Nelly and two starting pitchers are coveted by a number of teams. With Nelly aging, they could get the trade value from having him around one last time.

It's crazy how I can have a career record over .500 with an ERA in the 6's.

It looks as if 2015 was a fluke year for me..

Great job, as usual.. keep it comin!

Well, you've got a decent K/BB ratio and my guess is, you're still developing sorta. You're only 20, though I guess you've bottomed out as a prospect, I think once you come into your own as a starter you'll be fine.

I mean, 10-5 for a team like Pittsburgh is quite a feat, I think maybe if you get some good work in spring training you'd be even better.

Thanks for still reading

That's because they counted your first two years in the Continental League But hey...whatever works.

First place team isn't a bad place to be.
