A little luster knocked off the rookie this afternoon. The big news was that Coke didn't blow this one.

Still, he has to go.

With slight modification we could print and sell a truck load of t-shirts for your Coke has to go campaign.

Pitching might be a good path for Worth. He could have 15 years to refine his knuckler as Tim Wakefield pitched until he was 44. Plus his fastball has to be better than anything Wakefield tossed.

CC, sorry we missed you! I tried to find you but I had no luck (should've given you my number ). I also apparently forgot that I bought tickets in the bleachers rather than where I said. Oops! Anyway, it was a great game. Glad I could share it with you even if we didn't meet up. Sure would've liked to. Were you in the group that kept on yelling "Let's go Tigers!" Every time I heard that I said, "I bet that's Chris and the rowdy presbyterians." Fenway is nice place to visit but it's no Comerica Park.

I've got a picture of my wife and me to post too but I can currently only get it to display upside down.

Plus he hits like a pitcher too

Seriously though, I've never been one for Knuckleballers, but he'd likely do better.

ESPN said that it was the first time a Tigers position player pitched an entire inning since 1931 or somewhere in that era. I find this confusing, because didn't Shane Halter have a couple of games where he played all 9 positions?

What's up with Verlander? He is not an ace right now. The whole rotation has blown chunks this past week, but Verlander has especially done bad the last 3-4 games.

The Tigers' woes seemed to have started after their travel snafoo.

JV's mechanics are whacked right now. He is making broad changes in the middle of a game. That has got to screw with your head.

I just hope that our aces return to form soon.

Wow, how many times in the past week has this team allowed 10+ runs? UGH! Personally, I'm blaming the Zumba Pants. They should burn them and promise never to act like a girls softball team/Texas Rangers again. Just a thought.

Jim price was saying how their ERA over the last 7 games (39 innings) was 8.70; of course that was before Smyly went down. I have several theories:
1) Fatigue (lack of durability): They only had 22 games in April, and began May with a string against last place teams; however, they've played 20 games in the last 3 weeks. Add to that, because our bullpen sucks out loud, the starters have gone 7+ like every single time. And then you have the travel problems, back to back extra inning heartbreaks, and day games on a west coast swing. I think this proves that our starters are not as durable as we hope they were going to be. I think this was foreshadowed when the radio guys pointed out that (when it started) it was the first time Smyly had made back-to-back scheduled starts Solution: We need to try out the relievers at Toledo, despite their high BB rates. Also, scouring waiver wires or looking at washups. Anything to give these guys some time to recover

2) Mental (build up/let down): The Tigers were on top of cloud 9, sweeping the team that robbed them of a shot at the world series - Can't get any better than that - but then they can't seem to put anything together against the last place, can't pitch, Indians - What a let down. That mental funk followed them home against the Rangers, and subsequently to Oakland. Solution: Managing. This is where Ausmus (as well as team leaders Cabrera and Verlander) has to earn his paycheck. He has to psych his guys back up.

3) Balance (The A.I. has to adjust): OK, this sounds funny, but the Tigers were playing so well, and their starters' ERA was so good, that they had to fall back to the mean. I mean overall, despite the last 8 games, the Tigers are still in 1st place, and their starting ERA is still pretty decent. Solution: The bats have to rise to the mean. Other than a few notable exceptions (Martinez, Kinsler, Avilla), this team is not hitting as well as expected. We need better numbers from Castellanos, Romine and Hunter especially, but also Davis/Martinez, and Cabrera.

As a pitcher when you give up 3, 4, 5, or the popular Tiger 10, you are taking your team out of the game.

Players start thinking that we'll get them tomorrow. What am I going to have for dinner? Do these pants make me look fat? What does it mean when I'm only put in the game after we are 6 down? What was the square I picked for the Phil Coke pool today? I think it was 4 in the 6th, or was it 6 in the 4th? Hmm. Do I smell nachos?

I think the A's took out their frustration about being swept in Toronto on the Tigers. They did not have many good AB in that series.

My goodness.

Which is worse, the Tigers 'bullpen' collectively blowing a 6 run lead or the washed-up 'closer' doing what he did last night?

Two ugly nights in a row with Nathan. Maybe Coke should close.

Oh well, a split with Oakland feels stable.

We need a new stat. The 'save' as opposed to the save.

It was nice to see Verlander back on his game. Any game that the tigers don't give up 5 in an inning is a good thing of late.
