Despite fancy dancing, Aeros on the brink
ARLINGTON, TX - The Texas Rangers took a commanding 3-0 series lead today in the ALDS versus the Tokyo Aeros after eight strong from Raul Costas, striking out five and giving up three runs. Walter Young hit a homer in the bottom of the eighth, which turned out to be the game winner.

Dark Cloud had no comment about the loss or the team's chances in the rest of the series.

DAY 4 - Oct. 1, 2015

AEROS COME ROARING BACK
ARLINGTON, TX - A team meeting that reportedly took two hours, must've been the inspiration that gave the Tokyo Aeros all the motivation they needed. In danger of being swept in the club's first ever playoff series, the Aeros slammed the Texas Rangers 12-0, recording 21 hits and only giving up 4 en route to victory.

Max Roswell facing his old club, in his old stadium was inspired, striking out ten in eight innings. Even weirder, was the fact that no one on the Tokyo club hit a homer in the game. "This was a National League offensive effort. We just played hit and run baseball. I'm happy this team came out to play for me tonight," said Manager Jesse Barfield, who knew the writing was on the wall, if the club were to get swept.

Lineup changes are credited with giving the team the push to victory, mainly through a change in the batting order. "I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner," said Barfield, who had routinely allowed his coaches to make recommendations, rather than go with his own judgement. It's resulted in giving the team, a shread of hope that it can come back in this series.

Jaron Kelding had 2 RBI, Michael Garciaparra and Andy D'Alessio both had 2 doubles in the Aeros victory.

OTHER SCORES
Pittsburgh 3 Nevada 5 (Tied 2-2)
Atlanta 1 Washington 2 (Washington 3-1)

AEROS CREEP CLOSER AFTER ANOTHER DRUBBING, 6-0
ARLINGTON, TX - Give this club credit, they know how to provide drama. After playing dead for the first two games in the series and letting one get away in the third game, the Tokyo Aeros have held the Texas Rangers scoreless in the last two games, winning tonight 6-0 and pulling to within a game in their AL Division Series.

"I'm not sure what's happening, but I hope its not a fluke. We've invested too much into this club to have it fail now and we know these players can do great things," said Dark Cloud, obviously unhappy with the performance up to this point. Rumor has it, he actually went to Barfield and changed the lineup himself.

"The manager has a job to do, he's done it and the team is responding." he said.

For the second straight night, no Aeros hit a homer. But it obviously wasn't necessary. Andy D'Alessio, a late callup to the club has been critical in the playoffs, banging 3 RBI.

Jesse Foppert threw six strong innings, giving up five hits, no runs and striking out four. David Fronk pitched the last two innings, and struck out two, to give the Aeros the victory.

OTHER SCORES
New Jersey 5 Toronto 3 (NEW JERSEY wins series 4-1)
Atlanta 11 Washington 8 (Washington leads 3-2)
Pittsburgh 6 Nevada 7 (Nevada leads 3-2)

2015 PLAYOFFS

LAST TIME
We did this, the Aeros were down 3 games to zero in the ALDS to the Texas Rangers. The Aeros managed to come back in that series and win the series 4 games to 3.

But fate has a way of working itself out, up 3 games to zero to the New Jersey Knights, the Aeros fell apart and lost the final four games of the series, missing out on their first ever World Series berth and setting up a matchup between New Jersey and the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, after Atlanta dispatched the Nevada Silverhawks in seven games.

2015 WORLD SERIES

GM 1: Atlanta 2 New Jersey 1
GM 2: Atlanta 17 New Jersey 1
GM 3 New Jersey 4 Atlanta 6
GM 4: New Jersey 12 Atlanta 3
GM 5: Atlanta 3 New Jersey 0
GM 6: Atlanta 1 New Jersey 10
GM 7: New Jersey 11 Atlanta 0
GM 8: New Jersey 5 Atlanta 6

The Braves become one of three franchises in the Modern Era (New Jersey, Oregon) to win multiple World Series titles. New Jersey was vying to become the first repeat champion since Oregon three-peat in 2008-10.

ATLANTA FINALLY CHANGES NAME

After years of negotiations and downright arguing with Native American groups, protests and other colorful things, the Atlanta Baseball Club has changed its mascot. Rather than change the Braves logo to a more dignified, pro-USA look, the club changed its name to the Atlanta Party Animals

TOKYO AEROS SEASON IN REVIEW

As the final year of the Centurion deal with the Aeros approaches, there is much to be proud of. The club has had two winning season, when there were previously none in the first six and won its first division title. Despite the breakdown in the ALCS, everyone in the front office knows the club still needs a stronger bullpen to be considered a contender with the best in the league.

But we know the club is not that far away from being World Series ready.

The question that remains is...

Where will Centurion go next?

There are a number of rumors that have the club going back to New York, this time with the Yankees, some say they'll wait out a year and wait for expansion or retire altogether.

"We're just looking forward to the 2016 season here in Tokyo. Any other speculation is just that, speculation." said Dark Cloud.

2016 TOKYO AEROS

2016 OFF-SEASON
The Aeros are in their last year as a Centurion club, the Aeros, attempting to make a push for the World Series have retooled.

Trade with San Francisco :
San Francisco gets :
SS Abel Hussein
P Shane Reedy
P Mathew Dancer
P Zach Hammes
We get :
SS Joseph Ferreri
P Ryan Madson
P Gonzalo Lopez
Analysis: Hussein will be a star, but we couldn't use him now. Ferreri is a bonafide star with back-to-back seasons of 30+ homers, but he's making over $16 mil a year. But he, along with a lot of the players acquired are free agents at the end of the season. Dancer wasn't spectatcular while he was here, but decent. Madson was 15-8 last year and opposing batters hit .197 off of him last season. Lopez, is also a free agent at the end of the year, but was 12-9 last year and had 183 strikeouts and just 43 walks in 29 starts.

Trade with New Jersey :
New Jersey gets :
2B Anton Crespo
We get :
P J.D. Durbin

Durbin helped the Knights reach the World Series for the second straight year going 17-8 with with a 2.51 ERA last year, the best of his career. Notably, he was 5-2 with 1.92 ERA in last year's playoffs. Crespo, is under contract for the next three years and made his first All-Star game last year after being traded from Pittsburgh, where he played the first six years of his career. He's hit 100+ RBI two of the last three years.

Signed 2B Arturo Prado, LF Alvin Engstrom
Analysis: Prado began in his career in Tokyo and after stints with both NY clubs and most recently, Great Plains, he signed a one year, $12.45 million to help the Aeros and hopefully, himself with a much larger free agent deal next season..

Engstrom should be a huge upgrade in left field, though Andy D'Alessio has been a huge signing for the club, he'll provide more of a presence in the lineup. He hit .304 last year with 25 homers and 78 RBI. Expect him to put up even better numbers this year at Sony Field.

Trade with Orlando :
Orlando gets :
P Reilly Cooper
We get :
P Thomas Provenzano
Cooper played in Orlando a few years back, before being shipped to Toronto. He's back in Orlando, to help the Tourists evade futility. Provenzano will replace David Fronk as Tokyo's closer. Ironically, we tried to acquire him as a free agent a few years ago and he spurned us. HA, NOW YOU'RE HERE BITCH! (sorry, i'm over it)

The Aeros Top 3 starters were each 17-gm winners last year, the batting order is upgraded a great deal with Ferreri, Prado and Engstrom.

We're expect the club to not only contend, but to warrant the $118 million price tag.

GO AEROS!

BOOKOO BUCK$

Last year, Tokyo lead the league in attendance (over 4.5 million, a franchise record) and earned over $175 million in revenue and made over $40 million in revenue.

NEW MANAGER
The Aeros didn't renew Jesse Barfield's contract last season and hired former Anchorage Sky Chiefs manager Craig Biggio as the club's manager. "Craig will bring his hard nosed work ethic to our club," said Dark Cloud. "I'm looking forward to coming to Tokyo, they've got a great club and I know we're gonna be hard to beat," said Biggio.

MODERN ERA UPDATE...April 15, 2016

As we come close to the first month of the season, some unlikely teams are out of a jump out of the gate.

In San Francisco and Tokyo, it seems like that blockbuster deal to two teams made earlier this year has helped both clubs so far, as the players involved have blossomed in their new enviornments.

Imagine if they meet in the World Series?

FLOPPERT?
Jesse Foppert, a three-time Cy Young award winner and likely Hall of Famer, who got his 200th win this season is back on the block. After just one season with the Aeros and up for free agency at the end of the season, the Aeros have reportedly soured on the player DC once heralded as "the player who'll bring us into the new dawn". Foppert can hardly be called a flop, but after an injury kept him out five weeks last year, he was never himself. He was 12-3 last year with a 2.83 ERA during the regular season, but had his worst postseason ever going 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA. Still, his career playoff ERA in 23 starts is 1.87.

"He's an extremely capable pitcher, but DC has a short tolerance over there for guys who don't seem to win as fast as he'd like," said one AL GM who requested to be unnamed.

HOLLYWOOD BOUND?
LOS ANGELES - Reports from the LA Dodgers camp say that Dodgers officials have contacted Dark Cloud and Centurion about the opening with the club starting next season. While Dark Cloud has reportedly announced he is interested in going places he can "rebuild", the proud Dodgers franchise is in need a miracle worker, despite spending millions of the years, the club continues to fall short. Would Centurion's elixir do the trick for this languishing club?

Stay tuned...

BLOCKBUSTER THREE-TEAM DEAL

SACRAMENTO - In a deal that swapped more money than some payrolls, the Sacramento Athletics, Tokyo Aeros and Great Plains Express shifted players around the place to create quite a bit of packing and area code confusion.

The Aeros sent SP Jesse Foppert to Great Plains for SP Matt Brown and LF Antonio Echevarria.

Brown, 33, is also a free agent, who was not expected to resign with Great Plains, is 2-1 with a 0.76 ERA so far this season. Brown makes about $3 million more than Foppert, who received a ballon payment of about $18 million during his final season in Tokyo. Baltimore picked up the first two years of this deal after his trade to Tokyo.

The A's recieve Great Plains LF Antonio Echevarria and SP Foppert, who Great Plains sends to the club for LF Darren Panglaet.

Foppert, 35, is a free agent at the end of the season. The critical part of the deal was alleviating Panglaet's salary burden, which the club felt was too great on the club. At $39.5 million per year, he is the highest paid player in baseball. Foppert is 1-0 so far this season with a 7.52 ERA, however that win was his 200th career win.

Sacto also sent a minor league to Tokyo as part of the deal.

Sure, any ideas on where I can put it?

The file is gigantic because of like over 200 MB of just archives. Its close to 400 MB right now.

I mean, surely I can zip it and then zip2exe it and shrink it some, but its still a montrosity of a file. No wonder it always took forever to upload.

June 1, 2016 STANDINGS

As we near the halfway point, the contenders start to distance themselves from the pretenders. Atop the divisions, we see teams emerging that are generally in the bottom half of the standings or in the middle of the pack.

EXPANDING THEIR HORIZONS
Despite its lowest payroll total (about $69 mil) in three years, the San Juan Swarm are en route to their best season in franchise history, atop the NL East, this is the club's fifth season in existance.

The Orlando Tourists, an earlier expansion entry (2009), encouraged by a franchise best, 3rd place finish last year, is soaring towards its first division title in franchise history, atop the AL South. After a blockbuster deal that sent C Josh Eagan in a three-way deal to San Antonio and gave the club hard hitting CF Dave Farney, many weren't sure of the club's strategy would pay off, so far it has though.

WELL, ITS THE SAME...OLD SONG
ATLANTA - New year, new name, same position for the Atlanta Party Animals. Inspired by the city's annual Freaknik festival, the Party Animals are making the rest of the NL South dance to their tune. The Party Animals are seeking their seventh division title in 14 years of Modern Era play. The defending champs are poised to stake their claim coming off their best Modern Era season ever, winning 100 games.

LEGENDS...NOT ONE HIT WONDERS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Legends are proving that last season's division title, their first since the move from Montreal, was hardly a fluke. The Legends have beat off all other contenders so far and hold a 3-gm advantage in the NL Central.

POHLAD DIES...TWINS ON BLOCK

MINNEAPOLIS - Despite a new stadium in downtown Minneapolis and six division titles in the Modern Era, the Minnesota Twins are on the brink of moving away from the Twin Cities.

After the death of longtime owner Carl Pohlad, the club's trust has said to be evaluating potential owners. One person in the mix? Former Milwaukee Brewers (now, New Orleans Pelicans) and former Comissioner Bud Selig, who wants to buy his old friend's club. Also considering a stake in the club is another Wisconsinite, Milwaukee Bucks owner Herb Kohl.

The impeteus to place a team in Wisconsin for these owners is what they see as a major league city without a team and a park - Miller Park - that has yet to be paid off and has no full-time tenant. "We're tired of garage sales at a place that was supposed to be home to Major League Baseball," said Milwaukee mayor Douglass O'Neal.

The Twins franchise has been successful on a shoestring for years now. Pohlad, despite the new park, has refused to spend anywhere near the league average for salaries, placing the Twins at the bottom of league payroll for much of the last ten years. Despite this, the club has been successful, turning profits every season in the Modern Era, topping off at $79 million last season.

The Board of Governors has announced its intentions to have the sale occur quickly, so scheduling for next season can be planned. Few other potential owners have stepped forward, but look for the bids to be narrowed over the next few weeks.

"We're going to settle this and let the fans of Minnesota know the fate of their club," said Costas.

COSMOS MAKE A PUSH

CLEVELAND ABUZZ AS PENNANT FEVER HITS
CLEVELAND - Imagine someone takes your favorite team, a team you've been a fan of for fifty years and changes its identity. You might not who the club was anymore. Well, the Cleveland Cosmos are a club just like that. Formerly the Indians, the 'smos have had a few years of adjusting their fans to the new moniker and more important, a lackluster product on the field.

Last season was met with disappointment after the club, coming off a second-place finish was poised to soar even higher, to its first division title in the Modern Era, but the club languished and finished in third, 16 games behind Toronto.

This year, the Cosmos are in within striking distance to the Jays and GM Steve Pultarski has the go ahead to push towards a title. "We're glad about the way things have gone so far, but we really want to make this club even better than it is."

The Cosmos sent CF Jason "Wrecking Co." Repko back to New York Mets, where he played during the beginning of his career along with a SS prospect for CF Korey Murrill and 1B Scotty Nock. Pultarski said the club intended to see out at least one starter, using some of the prospects the club has. "We're not going to raid ourselves, but we do expect to do even better this season and need help to achieve it," he said.

The Cosmos retooled by adding LF Antonio Echevarria and SP Jesse Foppert from Sacramento. "We knew those players could be key in what we're trying to do here, so we're glad to be able to have worked out a deal with the A's," said Pultarski. Sacramento gets Cosmos former ace SP Blake Williams, who won 17 games last year, James Rice, who is rated with 5 Gold Stars and is 6-2 so far this year and LF Carroll Loy, who is batting .308 so far this season.

Pittsburgh has caught the Swarm. Or have they?

Orlando still leads, while the Legends distance themselves in the NL Central. Speaking of distance, how about those Aeros?!

All this and the Hartford Whalers?! Stay tuned...

BOARD OF GOVERNORS BIANNUAL ANNOUNCES CHANGES, EXPANSION
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The mid-season Board of Governors meeting yielded a great deal of fruit. First, Govenors chair Bob Costas announced the members approved expansion for the 2018 season in the American League. The league last expanded in 2010.

Meanwhile, the National League, which last expanded in 2012, while expand again in 2020, which the league calls its "final phase" of expansion, to bring major league baseball to 40 teams.

There are reports of considering dropping a division and returning to a 3 division format. "We're considering the benefits of offering other teams a chance to win with balancing allowing the best teams to win every year, so its something we need to ponder," said Costas.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS APPROVE TWINS SALE
The Minnesota Twins, who moved to Minneapolis years ago as the Washington Senators, will be moving again at the end of the season. Harold Bonnam, an investment banker and lawyer from Torrington, CT, has led a group that purchased the club and they have announced the club will move to Hartford, CT next season to become the Hartford Whalers. The league will move the Whalers to the AL East, while the newly returned Detroit Tigers will move to the AL Central.

As a result, the league considered placing an expansion franchise in 2018, to replace the club at 3M Field, which is still new and has to be paid off. "We're looking at all the applications for clubs." Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield and Kirby Puckett have invested into an ownership group, that made an offer for the Twins, but were rebuffed. No word yet on whether the team will adopt the Twins moniker, if the franchise is granted.

Other potential expansion cities include Chicago, Mexico City, Kansas City, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Virginia and Montreal.

FAN POLL
If you could bid for a Modern Era expansion franchise, where would you put it? Does your home region deserve a team? Why? Let DC know and perhaps you'll have your very own Modern Era club to root for!
