Bingo. Startups mainly fail because they overbudget, overextend, and make overly optimistic sales and revenue forecasts. Far too many of them seriously underestimate the amount of time required before profits begin. Stay cautious and you can survive.

And you don't see the irony involved in posting that on the (well-managed, small-startup, iPhone-marketing) OOTP forum?

Here's another one. They make what may well be the best turn-based strategy game in the world (Dominions 3: The Awakening).

Well the thing is, in the gaming industry only something like 5% of all games make a profit. I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying you need to be careful of your expectations. Development studios rise and fall over night. Homefront came out in the early part of this year and the studio that developed it has already been closed. Just supporting OOTP and iOOTP I think things would be alright but when you add in a 3rd game, one which would need a complete re-write, would make things much more difficult.

But it doesn't need a complete rewrite. ITP always used the OOTP engine. It's just a new front end.

And development studios rise and fall overnight because they are managed by tech guys with no sense of money. If you manage your money properly all things are possible.

That's not the case at all. I'd even go so far as to call that statement downright ignorant. There are some I'm sure that have failed due to mismanagement but it's usually because their game doesn't make a profit. OOTP have an advantage in the low cost of development, and that does give them a leg up. However most development studios fail because their product fails to make a profit.

To clarify too I'm not calling you ignorant. I don't want to start a fight, and least of all with you because a fight between me and you could go on for decades.

Eh, we disagree. But that's okay.

And, no, we don't ever want to get into a fight.

That'd be a weird fight anyway since neither of us would have the support of the other like we normally do.

As they say in Darkover, "Bare is brotherless back."

What are you doing here at 10 AM anyway? Don't you have a job or something? Not all of us can be shiftless hobos like myself.

It's Canada Day today so I have no work, just fun in the sun sitting around my pool later today. It would have been an awesome day for wiffleball if people were into that up here

Oddly enough I knew it was Canada Day. Would that be a "Happy" situation like "Happy 4th of July" for us? I've never been to Canada despite it being like 3 hours away....

I'm a shiftless consultant. The money is good and hours are irregular.

Well Wisconsin is only boring in certain context. Politically it's freaking crazy.
