They are using starters. That 1st round pick they made last year, Ikem Ekwonu, protects as well as a broken screen door keeps out flies. They need to either move him to guard, or start coming to grips that he is a bust.

How do you not realize you have the DE if you are the LT on this play?

That doesn’t look like a missed assignment to me, it looks like the DE went full Linda Rondstadt (“Blue Bayou”) on him.

Which would be bad enough.

But look at him. His attention obviously isn't on Thibs. It's on the blitzing LB. For whatever split second it was. And that was all she wrote. I don't know where his head was. I don;t care what the reason was. Distracted or lead footed, he can't play LT like that. He looked completely out of his league. I think they need to move him inside. He's not cut out for protecting the blind side.

It just looked to me like he got out of his stance late and the DE jet rushed right past him. A lineman's assignment is pretty much always going to be inside to out in that situation; he could mistake his assignment for being against the defensive tackle if they were lined up in the guard/tackle gap, but if he's got a guy on the edge and another guy out in space, he's always going to take the guy on the edge, no questions asked. And I didn't see him turn inside at all on that play, which at least to me is the only assignment he could possibly confuse.

I mean, agreed that he's bad. I'm saying that it's not something you can just fix by getting him to read defenses better. He got blown past hard on a jet rush, which, granted, I saw Michael Bennett do that to a lot of guys but Thibodeaux, no offense to Giants fans, is no Michael Bennett (and also Bennett did it by anticipating the snap count, something he was incredibly good at).

No, look. The tackle sees the DE, but ignores him. As if he expected someone else to be out there blocking him.

That's what I'm seeing. Like he thought it was someone else's man. IDK who he thought was in the backfield that would be able to handle a pass rusher like Thibs better than him.

Sadly, he just got confused. Tackles have to block the inside guy over anyone coming from the outside given the choice. A mental error caused by the rushing LB.

Seems like simple math to me. Two coming. There's 2 of us. We each take one. I get the guy closest to me. You get the guy headed straight to you.

Sorry, I can't take the excuses. He's given up 3 sacks in less than a half of football. He ain't what they thought he was.

I'm just commenting on that one play. You know more about him than I do. That was an awful play by him. Defenses do things to confuse the OL.

That play reminded me of another I saw going way back when the Cowboys had Bledsoe at QB. Dallas at their own 1 yard line. A 4 man rush and LB over the center. The LB takes a step back, then rushes the QB. That step back caused the C to ignore him and help block someone else. He had a free run at the QB for a safety.

Playing OL is physical. But what happens between the ears at that position means a lot too. What round was that guy drafted in?

That's why I say he needs to move to guard. So they can salvage something from him. But he can't protect a QB's back. And especially w/the Panthers situation. The Bryce pick has GOT to pan out til 2033. You can't afford for him to become Tua because he's taken too many hits.

Draft picks can be pot luck sometimes. The Cowboys drafted OT Tyler Smith at pick 24 that year I believe. A second round grade at 24th overall. He has turned out to be a very good OL. Cowboys fans can often times be dilutional. But that pick was a diamond in the rough.

Guard would be a better place for him. Less thinking.

OL is supposed to be the safest pick in the early rounds. Even if they don't become all-Pros, they usually can become solid starters for their 1st contract. I wasn't looking for Munoz. But I wasn't looking for a turnstile either.

I can find a trillion links to Jason Kelce apologizing for starting a brawl that ended the Philly/Indy practice. But not one video of the brawl.

Is this 2023 or 1923?

There's plenty of video of the joint practice too. Just not the part with the brawl.
