I've got some ideas regarding the hair and facial hair hopefully for the next version.
First, when I'm doing a face, I work at "full size" -- the size of the photo screen captured right out of FaceGen. That's about 5 times larger than the photo ends up but allows a much finer placement of the hair (as well as a smoothing and some other adjustments). I don't know if you can work in full size and then shrink down as the last step. I've got a lot of the hair stuff I've done in that "full size" if that helps. Let me know. Secondly, I'm getting a bit of wierd placement of the facial hair (soul patches starting on the lower lip, etc.). I'm not sure how you're placing those things but my thought is this: You could designate a window in the likely area for the hair. Say the chin typically lands between pixel rows 65 to 70. Then, within that window, search vertically for the darkest pixel. That gives you the chin location for that face. Then you can adjust the beards for each face. If the darkest pixel on this particular face is two pixels lower than the default face, move the beard two pixels down from the default location, and place. You could "mark" the chin for beards, the mouth and/or nose for moustaches, etc. To place the hair, you could do something similar but horizontally. You really wouldn't need to search for the darkest pixel, just the first pixel. If all the faces have the ears in (i.e. the face wasn't modified for "ears out"), then the ear should be the same size. If you locate the edge of the ear and all ears are the same width, you can place all the hair and sideburns right by the ear without a gap. You could do something similar on the left side of the face where there is no ear showing. Lastly, I think I have some hair and facial hair layers that you don't have. Let me know if you want them.

My only complaint is that when players move to a new team, they get a completely new face rather than simply changing the uniform. Otherwise everything is working great.
Here are a couple examples of what we've done in my fictional league, using Deft's new template: Maine Guides Hartford Whalers

You're custom uniforms look great! I'm just about to sit down and make some for my league. Bobble, I really like your suggestion about the facial hair placement (indeed, I think that is the weakest part of the current release.) I'll give it a go and see if I can come up with something like what you're describing. Currently, the facial hair files are the full 90 x 135 (not just a "sub-region" of the photo, ) but I could try the pixel-value searching to calculate X-Offset, Y-Offset, X-Strech, and Y-Stretch. I'll try it out and see if I can get it working. I'm not 100% sure what files I do and do not have right now, as I've let my directory structure get very convoluted. Blueturf sent me some files a while back that I haven't even gone through yet. But the more source files I have the more I have to work with, so please feel free to send me anything you've got! (I think you have my email address, but if not, let me know.) |

I just wanted to say thanks to Layton, Bobble, Deft & anybody else that has helped to make this wonderful tool.
I just tried it yesterday for the first time on a few of my test leagues, and it worked amazingly. Also simple for simpletons like me, and really adds a lot to the game for me. Thanks guys for your incredible work!!! -Steve |

How large is the download for version 1.0? Is it 42MB, or 60? The link keeps pointing me to the beta version...

I did this with my Anime face generation. If you have access to the code that is actually reading in the png file, you can just add a scalar to one or more of the three color chanels as you read in the file. The key here is making the source image a light grey scale color (although you can use dark shadowing still). This will acheive the effect your looking for. A note on hair. When I did this with my Anime face generation, I actually had two layers of hair. One that went behind the head and one then went in front. By placing hair that goes down the side of the face behind the face, you can make the hair go straight across the back of the head. This removes weirdnesses where hair is a strip hanging away from the face. You can then put a layer of hair in front to go in front of the ears/ over the brow. Just make sure the two layers of hair are the same color

Do you need PhotoShop or FaceGen, or something to make this utility work?
Thanks.

Well, I've tried several different things, and nothing has worked, so I'm going to start over with a fresh re-install and post what's happening to me here.
When I first open it after a fresh re-install, I hit cancel both times a I'm using the default locations, and then I get the following error: Quote:
Quote:
And now I'm a bit confused, because this time I've gotten the exact same errors the second time, after adding the config.ini file. The last two times, it changed from the access violation and NationsTable errors to an error saying the facial_hair.db file didn't exist at this point. But anyway, that's where I stand at this point, and I don't know what to do. Help? |

I am getting the exact same errors as posted above. I followed the fixes suggested, but I keep ending up with the same problem.
Any help would be really appreciated. |

I had an interesting problem when I tryed to use facetool.
First I used a test league and everything came out fine. But when I went to use this with my actual 16 team league, the only 2 teams it recognizes are the all-star teams, AL & NL all-stars. I checked the csv files and nothing looks out of place. Has anybody come across this problem? |

FaceGen and PhotoShop were used in the development of the program, but are not required in order to run it. |

A little help for people (hopefully):

That being said, I can't believe how great this program is, once you get it to work. LIMHB, you have done a great service to this community, and I look forward to anything else you might come up with. I do have one question: I know you can do the pictures one team at a time, but I might have missed where you can do it one 'league' at a time. I will be starting a universe with one fictional league running alongside a historical league (after the patch), and I would like to be able to just run this for my fictional league, leaving the historical league apart. Then, hopefully I can use Comedian's FaceTool to put the real pictures on the historical league players. Do you have any suggestions on what order to do these things, or if there is a way to do just one 'league' of a universe? Thanks again, great job.
