I'm having trouble getting this to work.
When I run the program, I get the first "This appears to be your first time running the program" message. I select the proper folders for the program and OOTP 2006. Then I get an error message that says "There was an error creating the database alias." I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times, and I'm not sure what the problem is. Next, I get an error message that reads "Table does not exist. File or directory does not exist. File C:\Program Files\OOTP FaceTool\data\games.db" I don't know what that means, but it sounds bad. When I try to load my league, I get the error message "NationsTable: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset." And then I can't really do anything. Anyone have any ideas about what's wrong and/or how I can fix it? |

sounds like you didn't preform the csv dump from the game first

I'm trying to get this great utility to work and having no success. I'm wondering if I'm installing the right version. The setup screen says I'm about to install "OOTPFaceTool Beta Version 0.9.0.6" . This was the one I downloaded from the latest link by LIMHB. Any help? Thanks

OK, got it to work - had to delete the bde database. Thanks for the advice!
But so now it's not letting me create photos a universe at a time. Anyone else run into this? Edit: NM. Got it to work. Thanks, LIMHB! Last edited by Mel Ott; 08-26-2006 at 10:34 PM. |

Hey all -
I still haven't been able to get this program to work despite trying just about everything possible. The program is installed with no errors. My league csv file loads with no errors - but when I push the button to create images I get a "access violation at address..." error, with universe, team and player at a time buttons. There is one weird thing that might be the problem. There is a file on my desktop named "faceTool_setup" that I think is left over from the BETA version I had installed/un-installed. The file has a few problems. 1) it says the size is 5.72 KB but 16 kb size on disk - which might be normal I don't know and 2) the file cannot be deleted. When I attempt to delete it I get a "Cannot delete Facetool_setup: Access is denied. The source file may be in use" message. If I click on it it says "Facetool_setup is not a valid win32 application." I have tried various programs to try to delete it and or figure out if it is running or something is trying to run it. Nothing has worked. Maybe it is the cause of my "access violation?" Any ideas would be greatly apreciated, Rich |

I was hoping since I start my league in 1962 I can find templates from 62 - 06, for logos I use uniform logos that are out there.

So, here is the workaround: In player-at-a-time mode, change the numbers in the table at the top under "ethnicity" "facial_hair_style" "face" "accessroy_id", or whichever ones are bothering you, then click on the checkmark, and then "Create photo". Repeat until you have one you like. Be careful using this method though because if you enter an number that is too high for any of them, it will cause an access violation error. (Ethnicity should be 4 or less, face_id depends on the ethnicity, but generally anything under 1000 is safe unless the player is east indian, in which case it should be lower, the accessory should be 4 or less.) Not ideal but it should get the job done. There have been some comments about the lefty/righty bat issue. I haven't had a chance to test the program on my own league much yet, but I will look into it further and fix it for the next version. We should probably make sure that we're all on the same page though, as ther problem might just be that I am thinking of things backwards from everyone else. I consider the "righty" bat to be the one where the bat appears to the viewer on the right-hand side of the photograph. I understand that that would mean that the player would be holding the bat in his left hand, but I am a right-handed hitter and I think that that's how I used to pose for pictures. If everyone thinks that I'm crazy, that's an easy switch to make. Also, regarding the bats/gloves showing up infrequently, I wrote the code so that only about 25% of pictures have an accessory at all. I can change this if people think that it's too low. I just thought that they'd lose some of their charm if they were in too many photos. That's also an easy change. Regarding the installation file still saying that you are installing the Beta version: I was very excited to release v1.0, and so I neglected to change the installer in a few places. Sorry. I think that's about it for now. There were a couple of people having errors that I skimmed over, but I'll re-read them now and see if I have any great ideas as to how to fix them In terms of future versions of the program, I have a good idea of where I'm going from here, and Deft has graciously offered his services in terms of improving the quality of some of the source graphics, which will in turn improve the quality of the output photos. I'm starting back at school in a couple weeks, attend the NDP Federal Convention in Quebec City, and starting my law school applications, so I am not going to be able to spend as much time working on this as I have during the summer. I will continue chipping away whenever I can, however, and version 1.1 will come at some point. |

Couple questions: The file Facetool_setup: what is the file extension? I don't remember what the beta installer was called, but the 1.0 installer should be called "FaceTool Setup.exe" and it should be 41.5 MB. I think the file you are pointing to is a temporary file created during installation. If the installtion or unistallation got interrupted that might explain why a temp file was created, and why your system thinks that the installer is still running. My only advice is to reboot, try again and see what happens. If that doesn't work, reboot is MS-DOS mode and delete the "facetool_setup" file in DOS. Quote:

I know I said earlier in this thread that this mod would make me switch to OOTP2006. But I tryed it and I can't do it. The game is just way too awkward. But on to my point.
My new mission is to get the pics successfully from this application into 6.5, which I have done in a small test league. Here's what I did: 1. created a test league in 6.5 2. converted league over to BM2006 3. ran face tool for BM2006 test league 4. used seperate program to convert images from png to bmp, then changed player id's from "player-..." to "p..." 5.pasted pics over to PHOTO folder in 6.5 This worked perfectly! I now have player pics for my entire 6.5 league. Now my question to anyone who cares is, how can I update the player pics with the correct uniform, and how can I get pics for rookies in the following years using this system of mine. By the way, sorry if this should be asked in another mod section. <O ![]() |

I just figured out why FaceTool always thinks that it's the first time being executed. The shortcut to it does not include the "execute in" folder, it's blank. When I enter "C:\Program Files\OOTP FaceTool\" there, it runs perfectly. It also runs perfectly when browsing to the folder manually and the double-clicking the facetool.exe

I'm getting the same error. I've uninstalled, re-installed, dumped, re-dumped (is that a word?) created new test leagues, etc; and always wind up with that error. Hoping someone can figure it out.
