An oddity to start the season. as of last night, there have been seven 1-0 scores in the majors, the Reds have been involved in four of them. Lost three in a row last week and won 1-0 last night.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet. Octavio Dotel among 124 (and counting) killed in a roof collapse in the Dominican Republic. Former MLB'er Tony Blanco also perishes, as well as Nelson Cruz's sister. Pedro Martinez says he has family members still missing from the tragedy.

The problem here is that Dotel, several years later, admitted that he lied - badly, about his age. Pujols born 16 Jan, 1980. Dotel, officially? 25 Nov, 1973. Not sure how they do this in the Domenican..but when I played (and coached) you didn't have kids ten years old playing against 16 year olds. This must have embarrassed Pujols, as he then started denying he said it...he KNEW it was the smoking gun about lying about his age. https://www.halosheaven.com/2018/11/...-age-conundrum Pujols made the comment about taking Dotel deep in 2006. Here's Dotel coming clean: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/a...ld-tell-truth/ Last edited by dsvitak; 04-09-2025 at 09:45 PM. |

Enter Planet Fitness. Get on treadmill. Phillies/Braves is just starting. 1st batter all is fine. Second batter much the same. Harper walks and then it happens. VELO! The game gets turned off. I listen to Bruce Springsteen on Spotify for the next 55 minutes. Haven't made it through a full inning all year.

The Pirates beat the Cardinals, 2-1 in 13 innings.
The free bogus runner rule was in effect, by the way. So the Cardinals could not score a run under proper rules in regulation. And they could not score a free bogus run with a runner at second base up their tushes at better than a 25% success rate in extra innings. And all that against the Pirates. And I thought the Mets had a lousy day...!

You see, it just takes too much time and effort, not to mention attention span, to say the word "velocity." Try it yourself; say "velocity" three times fast. By the third iteration, you will find yourself slurring it to "velo" while you are wondering what's new in the past few seconds on TikTok.

Pete Alonso (.378, 4 HR, 18 RBI) leads the NL in batting average and RBI this year!
![]() Too bad he's such a light hitter in the power department, otherwise he could be vying for a triple crown!

Watched around 6 innings of the Giants/Yankees game. Was at Planet Fitness again and it was on one of the tv's right in front of me. Was able to listen to J Geils Band while watching the game with no chance of ever hearing velo. Funny thing is, at one point in the game I was actually reading the captions on the screen and noticed the word velocity. The whole word velocity!

Astros were wrong for this. if you are going to have a rule that balls in the stands are fair game for the fans, you can't punish them by moving their seats when they try to catch a foul ball.

Definitely, definitely. For one thing, you can see the guy trying to give the ball back to Trout. Then later, you can read his lips as he says "I'm sorry" to Trout. It's not anywhere near that incident that kq76 mentioned where two moron Yankees fans wrestled the ball out of Mookie's glove. That idiocy will forever live in infamy.
EDIT: And I echo his comment about Trout's classiness. L.A. star or not, do you think that Houston kid doesn't idolize him now? ![]() EDIT 2a: A couple of thoughts about Trout, while I am at it. First, it occurred to me as I was reading this story that you really don't hear much about him these days. That's because he seems to be at a stage of early decline after four years of serious injuries. EDIT 2b: Second, I wonder if he ever regrets playing his entire career with the Angels. Am I reading this right? The team has been to only one playoffs in his 15-year career.

Twins demote Jose Miranda after baserunning gaffe
Talk about embarrassing! It was just the final straw; Miranda is not doing well anyway. But it looks today like he was demoted for this goof up. He could well plead a case, though. Sure, the play was in front of him and he should have been paying closer attention: Yet, if you look closely at the video, you may notice that the 2B's foot did cross in front of the bag without touching it. I have circled the scuff mark that his foot made: I can see how Miranda may have thought the 2B had touched the bag. Which is for naught because today, Miranda is once again a Saint.
