Ah, another Newhouser pick! (Perhaps we should have gone for Don Mossi or Ray Narleski? Lots of options in that 1954 Tribe pen.)

Rarity 2. It was actually a 3 on completion, but I did it so early that I figured if I waited, we would get a wider range of answers and the score would go down.

This is intended to be easy, I think. All teams, none newer than 1961. But I appreciate the gift, lol.

Rarity 3. This should've been the grid where I see if it's possible to get a rarity zero. Instead... meh.

Rarity 39. I'm not sure I could've done much better than that on this one.

Nope, Ken "Snickers™ bars taste like Steroids" Caminiti (RIP) didn't hit 40 until he got to SD, even though it seemed he popped 40 during that one series against the Mets in Monterrey MX in 1996 alone.

And then I cast around for one of the Anaheim Angels of Anaheim who hit 40 and I wondered about the four OFs and didn't recall Troy Glaus until it was too late. Sigh.

Also, I think I paid an Obvious Answer Penalty on FRobby, but I don't know who is better. Eddie? Lied-to-Congress? Nelson Cruz? We'll see, I guess.

Rarity 48. Didn't like this one, as the inclusion of 500 HRs is a waste. I have no idea who hit 40 for Stros besides obvious characters, Hidalgo is clearly the rare answer. Angels 40 HR list, same problem.

Amazin, Thome bounced around a lot at end of career, amigo. I think Orioles were his last or second to last team!

The very last. #s 611-612 in Birdland, and that was it. Now I know.

Three KO questions, three whiffs. Remarkably, Warren Spahn never had a 200K season. (I'm not surprised by Burdette and his spitter, but Spahnie threw enough innings that he could have gotten there, I thought.) Apparently you have to get a little closer to Atlanta to cross that line.

And I wouldn't have thought there would be such an Obvious Answer Penalty for Vida, not with Smoke/Hudson/Mulder/Zito down the road. Shoulda stuck to RW.

And then I thought I'd try Bob Friend, who was no friend to me. The Bucco Bob I wanted came after him. FFFT!

225, because the six team answers came to a cumulative 0.229 rarity. But that's not the game. Argh.

Rarity 5. I thought Veale would be a more rare answer until I saw the list.

Rarity 2. Let's keep on avoiding modern expansion teams.

Three straight flops is not good news.

So the Phils were fine and I even made it past the Ms. (Although I was rather surprised by Rickey scored high…I guess people have better recall of his Friars days than I do because that's where he got #3000?)

But I chickened out on both a Twinkie All-Star who actually got MVP votes in KC a decade later (completely forgot that) and a Twin that I knew the Mets had traded to KC. Only to plop for Jim Dwyer, once I remembered he ended in Minny.

Unfortnately, the fact that Mets traded Dwyer to KC doesn't mean he played for KC; he got 3-wayed to the Cubs (and didn't play there, either). Game wrecked.

And then I had spent so much time looking for Twinkies (because of KC and SD) that I completely forgot I could use Senators for the single-season category. Which is really embarrassing, given the number of qualifiers there. Yoicks.

209. Far from fine.

pilight, neat to see that it doesn't distinguish HOF playing/manager careers, in:re La Russa. I'll have to remember that down the line

Anyways, Rarity 6 for me. Quite pleased with myself

6? Don't bring that weak stuff here, Jordan!

Once again helped out by my knowledge of Every Single Stop for Every Single Pilot. (Okay, probably not, but enough of them.) Sort of sad I didn't use Bouton for the Hank Aaron combo (I also passed over him for Brewstros), but clearly Ranew Merritts the slot.

OTOH, I knew I could have done better for the HoFs. And I was reluctant to go for Rabbit when there were obviously deeper dives available, but I said "good enough".

(Rabbit was 0.05 when I picked him, but it's not scoreboard until you get the screenshot, of course.)

I discovered that a while back when I tried Bobby Cox as a Yankee HOFer in a grid I'd already blown

Rarity 13. I was reasonably sure Lee Smith had played for the Expos, but chickened out and went with the Big Unit.

Absolute trainwreck. 323.

Apparently Pepper Martin never got 200 hits. I was trying to avoid the obvious Hornsby/Frisch guesses and I didn't think Hafey got enough ABs. Probably Ducky would have been good enough. (Be annoyed if there was a Ray Blades or Les Bell for the taking.)

Angry at myself, I decided that all the hype of Worthless Willie McGee in 1982 meant he'd swiped a ROY to go with the MVP he stole from Doc in 1985. Nope. (That was the Sax/Ray tie.) Grr.

And then I said, when else will I get to use Go Joe Charbonneau? But apparently the 1980 Tribe were crammed full of stars, and that was three strikes and out. Floppity-flop-flop-flop.

(I guess that .341 BA for Miguel Dilone kept Joe home? Or did Fregosi just name Hargrove out of habit?

ETA: Neither. ASG nod #2 for Jorge Orta, playing out of position in RF. Huh.)
