This is what happens when you try to get too cute. I knew Jesse Burkett played for the Browns. Unfortunately, he ended up about 140 hits shy of 3000. Doh!

So I've bombed on three straight grids. But, if you want a real challenge you should try the WNBA grid...

And finally! After three awful flubs last Wed-Fri (no, Ken Williams did NOT hit 40 dingers in his big 1922 season! No, Larry Walker did NOT have a 200 hit season for the Expos!), taking the weekend off for self-care, failing again on Monday and Tuesday (as noted, the Rajah didn't get to 3000 hits) and simply forgetting yesterday, I am, at last back on the beam!
(Hey, where did everybody go?) Zoomed through the top and bottom rows, took a few seconds to be certain about Wimpy, spent 15 minutes convincing myself Alvin must have had at least one A-S nod… …and then spent HOURS in agony before I nailed Sorrento. I was ready to do an obvious one ("Well, Griffey finished as a Twin" "Man, Puckett really sucked in Seattle") and take my medicine…but I honestly couldn't think of one. Mind you, I had Joe Lis relatively soon, but when I went to put him in, the selector reminded me that his career ended in 1977, which made it a thin window to reach the Kingdome, and I chickened out. And then pain and pain and finally just guessing to get it over with. Score of 4. (Those fractions add up.) |

23. A few disappointments, but after my Eight Days of Shame (5 failures, 3 skips), it's just nice to finish two in a row.
I was thrilled when, after all my Colorado struggles, Acevedo flew into my head the moment I looked at the grid. First one done! …and then the Rocks hit back. I couldn't think of anyone who wasn't obvious. Points for not resorting to Larry Walker, but still. I was a little miffed that I couldn't think of a Pilots/Reds connection other than the obvious Tommy Harper, which I thought might cost too much. So I settled for the Cobra. (I wonder if Harp scored higher or lower?) Actually, I really wanted to do Ron Plaza, since he coached 3B for both squads, but I rather doubt that would work.

Rarity 40.
But for a grid with Snakes and Gold Gloves, I'll take it! I probably should have gone for Eric Davis, but I wasn't really certain about the GG, so I went safe. But the fact that I finally got to use Ken Williams and his big 1922 season makes up for a world of wavering! (A cumulative 1.13 for a column full of Pinstripers doesn't suck either, considering my biases.) Last edited by Amazin69; 08-19-2023 at 02:36 PM. |

8/20 Rarity score 80
Surprised Rogers is so low percentage wise. .300 BA is definitely the toughest part of this. Couldn't dream of someone besides the obvious for Marlins Last edited by Jordan; 08-20-2023 at 11:00 AM. Reason: more deets |

Back to back 40s. But at least I'm completing on a consistent basis now. (4 in a row. Which, now that I bragged, means it will be about a week until the next one.)
A bit surprised I had to pay such an Obvious Answer Penalty on Ichiro, and that threw me off to the point where I just picked the Babe out of whimsy, when clearly there were better choices. But the Cubs scored well (cumulative .076) and while I regret chickening out on Ernie Whitt and settling for Rickey, that's only 3%. It's okay. |

Having gone back and looked at the answers, there are at least a handful of pitchers in the Marlins/.300 spot so we were not crazy about the obviousness

Okay, fair enough, I should have thought of Piazza. But other than that, I see what you mean.
